I've read all five of Ms. Tentler's novels and am so lucky to have discovered her. This looks to be the beginning of a series and was another excellent and unforgettable story by this talented author. It felt a little different than her other books since all of those focused around law enforcement officials as the leading heroes. In this one we have Mark who comes from a wealthy old-name family and who runs an historic upscale beachfront hotel on the Carolina Coast. He is a widower of two years with a darling young daughter he's raising alone now. Samantha is a beautiful, reserved young woman who holds a lot of secrets and has a checkered, hidden past. This story grabbed my attention from the get-go and took my emotions on a roller-coaster ride.

I would categorize this as more of a contemporary romance though it does have its fair share of suspense (especially at the end) and was an extremely well-written novel. I fell in love with Samantha and Mark, both of whom were well fleshed and totally endearing. This had an amazing cast including Mark's siblings, but especially his daughter Emily who literally had me crying at one particularly touching moment. The one downside for me was Mark's references to his deceased wife as "the love of his life" once even right after he and Sam make love for the first time. It made me feel bad for Sam who would never carry that title. Still, I thought this was a truly beautiful and emotionally driven romance and I can't wait to read more about the St. Clair family!

Just enough suspense and romance mixed together with a great story line to make a great read . Definitely will read her other books. Found myself a new author to read.

Maybe it's because I love Charleston. Maybe it's because I live nearby and survived Hurricane Hugo. Maybe it's because I recognize so many parallels to the Boardwalk Inn at Wild Dunes or maybe it's because this is a well written suspense romance, but I really enjoyed this book.

The characters were likable. The heroine and hero had realistic struggles. The build up was skillfully done. My only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the initial sexual tension could have been drawn out more building to a higher level instead of the usual insta-love but overall a good book that I enjoyed.

With Before the Storm, the first a new series by Leslie Tentler, Samantha marsh has been running and hiding from a past life. She starts her life over by changing her old name and starting a whole new life from her seedy past. She settles in a small coastal town in South Carolina where she opens a specialty bakery/restaurant. She has been running and hiding for six years and finally feels she has found her safe harbor from her past. She meets a guy who she falls in love with never expecting to. Then her rears into her life and between a hurricane and her past life hitting at the same time, you will ride out a adventure and enjoy every minute of it. Once I started reading the book I did not want to put it down. I am looking forward to book 2 in the series.

I would recommended this book to anyone looking for a book with love and overcoming obstacles of the past. Luther is a wonderful character and my heart went out to him and his understated love for the only person who believed in him and accepted him warts and all.

I'd never heard of Leslie Tentler before and was a bit skeptical about purchasing this book, so I downloaded the sample and started reading... boy was I hooked! I immediately purchased the entire book and DEVOURED it! I didn't want the story to end... The balance between the romance/mystery/drama was PERFECTION. The pace was spot on and the story was very believable - no silly reasons for breaking up with someone. No stupid miscommunication excuses that make you wanna roll your eyes and choke the characters. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this author and I've already purchased Book Two in the series and guess what...? I'M LOVING THAT TOO!!!!
