Kathleen Morgan's books for the general market have earned rave reviews and hooked thousands of romance fans. Her first inspirational series, Brides of Culdee Creek, has proven successful as well. Woman of Grace and Lady of Light each climbed the CBA Marketplace best-selling fiction list. This new release, Child of Promise, is the final book in the series.
Beth MacKay, the daughter of Culdee Creek's owner, returns home after completing medical school to take over the aging Doc Childress's practice. Reluctantly, her life and heart become entwined with that of Grand View's Episcopalian priest, Noah Starr. But Noah struggles with his faith and calling since his wife died and his daughter, Emily, was disabled with cerebral palsy due to the difficult birth.
When Beth becomes embroiled in a spousal abuse case between two of Noah's parishioners, she encourages the battered woman to leave her husband for her own safety. Noah cautions the woman to try to work things out, and when the abuse ends in tragedy, it's the last straw for the already-doubtful priest. Despondent and shaken, he announces his resignation to the church. Only with Beth's faith and love, and a little help from the community, can Noah find his way back to the life and calling God has always intended for him.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

As one chapter of life ends, another begins.

Beth MacKay is finally back home at Culdee Creek after five years as a medical student. When she left to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor, she was hopelessly devoted to Noah Starr, the minister of Grand View's parish, and utterly heartbroken at his marriage to someone else. Beth is all grown up now, over her childish crush, and brandishing a fierce determination. But wounds from her childhood have compounded with a fresh hurt that festers deep inside.

Noah is widowed now, a single father torn by grief and a growing sense of disillusionment with the pastorate. Noah's and Beth's lives soon become intertwined as they both serve the people of Grand View. But can they use their gifts to heal one another as well?

This book touched me in so many different ways. I can relate with both Noah & Beth at many different levels and in various stages of my life. I, like Noah find myself wrestling with my own faith, yet being expected to assist my patients with coming to terms with their challenges. As a clinical mental health counselor, my patients look to me to have the "right answer" to "fix" their problem. I acknowledge to them that I do not know all of the answers and can not "fix them;" but assist them with trying to come to terms with situations and learning skills to assist them with helping themselves. We all must recognize and acknowledge our need for God's grace, wisdom and continued presence with His desire to meet our needs. At times, I feel overwhelmed and isolated and do not understand the trials and valleys along my journey - which is when I need to draw upon Him, and sometimes it seems difficult to find Him with hearing His still small voice. Patience does not come easily with me, my past at times seems present and the negative things seem prominent, yet I continue to work towards facing each day anew, and accepting myself as a work in progress; we only can change ourselves and accept the person we are today and then work to become a better person than the person we were yesterday. Having a title, degree, license, etc. does not make us less human, perfect, nor do we have all of the answers. I am trying to be true to myself and ask for God's wisdom, guidance and peace with the work that I have yet to accomplish within myself and how best to assist my patients with becoming the person God desires for them to be,as well as, the person that He sees in them. This book was an easy read, insightful, relevant, refreshing and a pleasure to read. Thank you for giving of yourself and allowing readers the opportunity to connect with these everyday characters.

Very good wrap-up of the"Brides of Culdee Creek" series. I wanted Kathleen to explore a little more of the relationships with the MacKay family, but I also understand that she wanted to focus on Beth and her relationship with Noah, and there are only so many relationships you can explore in any given book. It left me wanting more books to the series though, so I immediately ordered her Scottish series "These Highland Hills".
I live in Colorado, and so I especially liked that these are set in my home-state. I also appreciate Kathleen's research for writing books that are realistic to the time-period. It was a little frustrating to have to wait for what dark-past Beth was trying to overcome. But I always appreciate Kathleen's views and perspective of God's roll in our life.

As with all the other books in this series, this one makes you feel you are living right there with them. Amazing story with mystery, romance and a lot of God's love and forgiveness.

Finished the Brides of culdee creek series today by Kathleen Morgan who has a way to put you into the story that you began to feel as if you are one of the characters and are struggling with the same issues.

Although all three of the first books were good this one I think is my favorite. Beth is trying her best to be female doctor in the early 1900's while Noah is struggling to be the priest that everyone expects him to be. It was wonderful to watch Beth's and Noah's relationship grow and blossom. This book deals a lot with forgiveness in your self as well as with others, it also deals with pride. You have a head strong doctor and a priest who is in charge of his flock. Both are suppose to help others but who do they turn to when they are the ones who need help? It brings in perspective that no one person is better then the other. You may have a different calling in your life then the person next to you but it doesn't mean that they won't experience trials and tribulations the same as you. It was also very well portrayed that God does hear our prayers but doesn't always answer them in the timing and way that we may want or expect them to be. It left me feeling hopeful and encouraged. As with all her other books this was a wonderful read. I am looking forward to starting the next series 'Heart of the Rockies'

Don't skip this one it's the best of the series besides the first one! Kept me glued from start to finish and can be read as a stand alone. What a powerful message of enduring faith, hope, love and forgiveness! I wish we could have seen even more family time without trials or hardship between Beth and Noah after they got married, but it was still good. I loved how their relationship grew deeper and deeper throughout the book !

I have enjoyed all of Kathleen Morgan's books and felt sad to learn at the end of this one that it is the final in the series. Kathleen has a style of writing which draws one in and keeps them interested to the very end. She has her characters live real life and have real problems that fit the time frame in which she is writing. The importance of God and how faith lived affects decisions is realistic. I truly recommend this book!

I both looked forward to this book and dreaded it at the same time. I was anxious to see how the series ended, but at the same time hated to see it end. The author once again took believable real life scenerios and wove them into the historical setting of Culdee Creek, while inspiring the reader to believe in hope, new beginnings, forgiveness, and family. Though the book is the last of a series one could easily read just this book and not be completely lost. If you are looking for a book filled with inspirational themes, romance, historical settings, and happy endings, you will love this book.

I do like stories that encompasses several books. This one was not one of my most favorite but--------it was interesting enough that I did buy the whole series. I was just easy to put it down and do something else rather than getting so caught up in the story that the day goes by before you can put it down. I do reccomend reading the series though.

This book was well written about Elizabeth (Beth) I found it was a real life mistake that one could make in life and how God saves of the sins that we make, and how human we really are. Love Kathleen's writing style and wish that Culdee Creek Series wasn't coming to an end.

I've read all the Brides of Culdee Creek Stories and this one didn't disappoint. After reading the last book I presumed this one would be about Beth and Ian getting together so it was nice that it wasn't predictable. I also liked the fact that in this book Beth has been away and come back as a doctor, it adds a new dimension to the story. If you liked the other books in this series I would think that you'd enjoy this one too.

Started off with a strong story, couldn't put it down. Then the story really dragged towards the end, I'm not religious so maybe it was Noahs battle with his beliefs that I found boring, since I couldn't relate to him. Overall, a good story.
