Thank you in advance to the publisher, Revell Books, for providing an advanced review copy through Library Thing. A positive review was not required or requested, and all words are my own.I was anticipating this read as soon as I heard about it as I’m always drawn to the romantic suspense genre (it’s my #1 favorite), add in a Military aspect, and I really wanted this book bad! This one tended more to the suspense side with the romance on the side, and very little on the romance end. This is the second book of Eason’s “Danger Never Sleeps” series, and the cover fits book #1. While this is part of the series, Acceptable Risk acts great as a standalone read. The only reference to Collateral Damage is Brooke being mentioned as she is a friend of Sarah’s. The woman appears briefly in it. However, I wouldn’t state the first one has to be read to enjoy it, but I did buy it after winning this one, and it is on the TBR stack. Far too many TBR books on the list, which I don’t mind – that’s actually a good thing in these times.Getting on to the characters …I was empathically not wild about the General. To be honestly, I REALLY disliked him and his methods. I get why he was doing what he was doing, especially with the threats as well as one son’s suicide, but I feel there could’ve been a different method.Sarah (Rochelle Seraphina – Sarah is part of Seraphina) was rough, unpolished – yet understandable given her experiences. I really loved Gavin and Caden. Their friendship and their love for Sarah really shined here. They were skeptical, but still gave her the benefit of the doubt when it came to her claims. Those three were the strongest characters, definitely believable and realistic. The story was told in third (3rd) person alternating between Gavin and Sarah. This was DEEPLY intense, intensely wild, riveting, edge of seat read. It was near to impossible to put it down. I devoured it inside of 24 hours, and I wasn’t reading it consistently. I loved the pacing, action, and story that got better page after page. The chapters were fairly short which resulted in it being such a quick read.Despite being a military themed read – there were few military terms used. I do know quite a bit of military lingo, but it wasn’t a breaking point either way. This had an “action movie” vibe to it – the pace never stopped until the LAST chapter. It was an edge-of-the-seat, action-packed, tense read and I couldn’t figure anything out –The plot points?* A doctor’s suicide* Dustin’s (Sarah & Caden’s brother) suicide* Brianne’s hospital break down, later suicide* Experimental medication* Threats against the General and his family* Dustin’s letterSo much stuff in here that kept it all believably connected and kept the story rolling. I don’t think the author could’ve expanded anywhere else as this was SO packed, and I don’t think she could’ve left anything out without creating plot holes. Just when I thought I knew where this was going – it would take a sharp turn.In addition, Sarah is also grappling with decisions she made in her past (high school) which come around to haunt her. She doesn’t want that to impact what Gavin thinks of her.On a side note, I LOVED Sarah’s name for Gavin’s truck – Herbie. I LOVED most of the Love Bug movies (except Herbie Goes Bananas), and I even called a little Toyota we had “Herbie”. I’m someday hoping to get a Chevy SUV, and yup … I’ll call it Herbie! Also, there is a Valley High School where I live. So, there were a few things that I was personally connected to in this story. While distributed by Revell, a Christian/Faith themed publisher, this had some elements of trusting God, but there was nothing heavy or preachy. Nothing central to the story either.I’m not completely familiar with all of the author’s books. However, I had read Lynette Eason’s “Protecting Tanner Hollow” novella last year as a result of being on the Revell Reads reviewer program and I thoroughly enjoyed it!I’m definitely eager for the next book in this series and can’t WAIT to see where Eason is going to take readers next.Fans of the previous novel and those who enjoy Eason’s reads are sure to enjoy this one!

If book 1, Collateral Damage, in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason is intense (and it is!), then book 2, Acceptable Risk, is intensity on steroids. From the very first page, Acceptable Risk is one wild ride and never lets up. Seriously, there are moments in this story that are so edge-of-your-seat I could barely breathe and I began to tear up. I loved every minute! Sarah Denning is an amazing heroine. She is beyond brave and courageous, and she is super smart. I would love to have 1/10th of her non-stop energy. Gavin Black is the best kind of hero. He’s strong, intelligent, capable, and compassionate. He really does have a big heart. I love how he’s able to see ten steps ahead, how he’s able to read Sarah like a book, and how he’s able to recognize his mistakes and work towards making himself a better man. I enjoyed following the mystery and trying to see if I could put the pieces together ahead of the characters. I was able to somewhat, but overall this story kept me guessing till the end. And, Acceptable Risk isn’t just a fluff Romantic Suspense story. I very much appreciate the many timely themes and messages. I especially loved the discussion on forgiveness, and how we don’t have to fall victim to our past sins. We can move forward as a new, better-improved version of our former selves. All in all, Acceptable Risk is an excellent Contemporary Romantic Suspense story that I highly, highly recommend!

I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on November 30, 2020, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

"I didn't dream her."

. . . . except that everyone around her, insists that the troubled young woman in the adjacent hospital room doesn't even exist. Military journalist Sarah Denning is adamant that Brianne is indeed a very real person, but then again Sarah is experiencing horrific nightmares and flashbacks from a recent ordeal in Afghanistan, and has been deemed unstable enough to be discharged from the army .

Following her harrowing kidnapping experience by Middle East terrorists and subsequent rescue, Sarah's recovery from two gunshot wounds has resulted in a period of mild convalescence . Certain that her life is still in danger, her father, a military general, hires former Army Ranger Gavin Black to protect Sarah, putting Gavin in the cross hairs of a woman for whom he dearly cares and a father whom Sarah clearly despises.

"Something's going on, Sarah. something . . . weird. . . . Somehow we have landed right in the middle of it."

A suspicious family tragedy deepens Sarah's apprehension, but accelerates her determination to find some answers; she needs to find Brianne and she needs to know what really happened to her brother . . .. and then there's Gavin. Is any of it an "acceptable risk"?

What a trail of tears, tragedies, and ultimate triumphs . . . . . enjoy this author's signature style . . . lots of questions, an impossibly fast pace, and lovely romantic overtures.

Want action and suspense? This book provides it all. Dysfunctional relationship between daughter and father is part of it. Greedy people another part.

Another excellent book by Lynette Eason. This book revolves around PTSD and suicide among soldiers BB after coming home. Two soldiers from Afghanistan fall in love after coming back home and they also both suffer from some form of PTSD. Sarah has someone trying to kidnap her and has Gavin as her protection. Certainly is exciting and suspenseful. It is definitely a page turner.

All the mystery, romance and excitement without all the foul language and lusty scenes! Love reading the first book and this one! Now to start on the next!!

You absolutely can’t go wrong with a Lynette Eason book. This second book in the series deals with some hard and sad subjects like suicide and PTSD. Issues of trust and hatred in our hearts. I think the characters are all believable and very likable. I especially loved Gavin and his attitude. Also loved Caden even though he is in a supportive role. This book could be read as a stand alone but do yourself a favor an read the first book in the series. You won’t be sorry.

Enjoyable book. Didn't follow the typical equation of a late in plot break up and reconciliation. (Which is good because I hate that.) Interesting and unique premise. The only issue I had was that two characters imply that the anti-anxiety medication Citalopram is a narcotic; it isn't. Otherwise, very enjoyable book.

‘Acceptable Risk’ is the second book in Lynette Eason’s ‘Danger Never Sleeps’ series, but can easily be read as a stand alone.

I found this book literally impossible to put down! I read it in one sitting and I tore through it. I’m pretty sure it took me less than 3 hours to finish. It grabs you from the fist page, and it’s go, go, go until the last page.

A word of warning though - despite the fast pace, this novel is definitely not a light read. The subject matter is fairly heavy and intense. But the story is so well executed that it doesn’t sit too heavy with you afterwards. Which is just how I like a book to be. Able to address a heavy topic and get you thinking, without leaving the weight of the topic on you afterwards.

I would go as far as to say that this book is a cut above a standard romantic suspense, as it has a depth to it often only found in more character driven books - where the slower pace allows for deeper characterisation. Somehow, she has been able to combine both a fast pace and deeper development - with phenomenal results!

I will be reading this one again.

Sarah was kidnapped in Kabul, & has returned to US to recover. She is very angry with her father for arranging her discharge due to PTSD. Then her younger brother commits suicide. Her journalistic skills kick in and Sarah needs to figure out what happened. Unknown to her, her father arranges protection via her brother's friend Gavin. They go through a number of attacks on their safety. #2 in a series. Can pretty much be read alone.
