Environmentalists rejoice: Nespresso has a program to recycle and compost used espresso pods for free. They will provide prepaid UPS shipping bags that hold up to 150 pods, to return to Nespresso for processing. This was a big selling point for me - the environmental impact is why I never bought a Keurig in the past (but also because I hate the watery coffee Keurigs make).
And to make your life even easier, the Nespresso smartphone app is super convenient and well designed. Just a few clicks and I’m done ordering more pods for my machine. So easy, that it’s TOO easy, actually ... I shudder to think how much money I’ve spent on Nespresso this year. (Less than I would have at Starbucks, though!)
Some advice in case you have a “no-water” issue with your machine like I did. When I first got my machine and filled it with water, I ran it a couple times, but nothing came out of the spigot: no water, no espresso, nada. It would make the usual hissing compressor-pump espresso sounds, but it seemed like a tube was blocked or something. After troubleshooting and a long phone call to Nespresso, I learned what was wrong, and what to do to fix it.
Apparently, the system needs to be primed before use. This is already done at the factory when the unit is made, so new units *should* be ready to use right out of the box. However, it may need to be re-primed if it has been stored for a long time (months) after being used, or (more likely in this case) if it was used once or twice and then returned to Amazon (where it then might sit in a warehouse for a long time without being used).
Here’s how to re-prime the machine. Fill the water tank with hot tap water - not boiling, but the hottest you can get out of the tap. Put a cup under the spigot to catch any water. Don’t insert a Nespresso capsule for this process, it’ll just waste expensive coffee. Press the “lungo” button (the larger cup than the espresso button), and let the machine run. At the same time the machine is running, slightly lift and re-seat the water tank in its gasket every few seconds during the cycle. This helps force water through the gasket and into the system. Repeat this process several times until water starts to come out of the spigot. For me, it took 6 cycles before water finally got through, but after that, it was smooth sailing, and the unit’s been working perfectly ever since. Just wanted to share this hard-won wisdom with the rest of the Amazon universe, in case it helps other poor, espresso-less souls out there. Good luck and enjoy!
A week ago... I happened on a billboard for a free coffee inside.... a Nespresso, which I remembered, from being in Switzerland, is a tasty little coffee. Next thing I know I’m online researching and obsessing on how to get my grubby little hands on one!
I love it. I considered buying one years ago, but after a poor experience with the longevity of Keurigs, I opted for a traditional stove top espresso maker.
I’m sold on this now. The coffee is amazing. I’ve learned that’s partially because Nespresso is extremely selective about the origins of their coffee.
The packaging was super easy to recycle... designed to easily flatten after the product is removed. Nespresso also promotes recycling of their aluminum capsules. Both of which which reminded me..... the Swiss are hyper detail-oriented, quality-conscious and environmentally-concerned. I have faith that this little machine is designed to last, not designed for obsolescence.

With the deal I had 40% off... There is nothing which can go wrong.
Kids as young as 10yrs old can use it with just one time watch.
Time saving
Easy to clean the frother
Frother is a great bonus
One of my most satisfying purchases.
Yes coffee pods are costly.
Cheap ones are disastrous as I have tried few by now did not find the quality match to nespresso originals.
Stick to nespresso pods if you really love good coffee.
Afterall this machine is for coffee lovers.
A note, though, to first time owners. When you prepare to use for the first time, which is allowing the water to run through the machine 3 times, you may experience what happened to me:
I filled up the reservoir with water. Turned on the machine. Pressed Lungo button as indicated. The pump started but no water was flowing out. In fact, the machine stopped shortly after the pump attempted. I Googled the video to see if I had missed anything and no I hadn't. Next I troubleshooted and found online suggestions that it may be air caught in the flow tube, so I tried the recommendation, still no resolution. I called Nespresso for advice and we tried several things, still the water would not flow. The agent told me that the machine may just be defective. I refused to believe that, though, she mentioned that perhaps filling the reservoir with really hot water and letting it rest an hour might help. Strange, I thought, but what have I got to lose. As I went to empty the water I noticed that I had filled the tank with cold water. I exchanged the water for warm water and to my surprise even before pressing the brew button bubbles appeared in the reservoir. I then pressed the Lungo and the machine started working as indicated.
The coffee and experience so far has been fantastic. Breville is a trustworthy name and I have had appliances from them before, however, given my recent experience with my Nespresso KitchenAid machine (I purchased through Nespresso back in Aug 2015 for 500.00 came with a 2 year warranty and today these machines are discontinued ) which was fine for 2 years, I opted this time for a plan of 3 years, it was only 35.00, but I am sure will eliminate the headache I had with my KitchenAid one. By the way, my KitchenAid Nespresso also gave quality brewing and coffee, seems a flaw in these machines is that more water accumulates in the drip tray rather than coffee in your cup. Sadly, no one, even from what I experienced with Nespresso and KitchenAid, can fix the KitchenAid machine.
