- "Introduction" (1986) by Larry Niven describes the origins of the Man-Kzin Wars anthology.
- "The Warriors" (Worlds of IF, 1966) by Larry Niven is the first story on the Man-Kzin Wars. It describes the first encounter of humans with the Kzin.
- "Madness Has Its Place" (1990) by Larry Niven has the Earth receiving news of the encounter.
- "The Man Who Would Be Kzin" (1991) by Greg Bear & S.M. Stirling sends a telecasting telepath to the Second Kzin fleet.
- "In the Hall of the Mountain King" (1992) by Jerry Pournelle & S.M. Stirling brings the FTL drive and final victory over the Kzin. ARM tries to suppress technological changes on all the human worlds.
These tales are early stories in the Man-Kzin Wars. They are taken from the first three volumes in the series. While they explain the core facts of the wars, other stories explore other facets.
"The Warriors" was published twenty years before the anthologies. It portrays an earlier version of the Kzin. Niven made many changes before the publication of this story and even more in the twenty years following this first story.
Other stories from the anthologies have been compiled in omnibus editions. The next compilation is The House of the Kzinti . The first true novel is Destiny's Forge .
Highly recommended for Niven fans and for anyone else who enjoys tales of alien cultures, human strife, and a bit of romance. Read and enjoy!

I think "The Best of All Possible Wars" is a rip-off, however, as every single story has been published elsewhere. I understand that you like to repackage stories, and I don't blame you, but every book should have at least something new!
I hope you will take kindly this friendly admonition from your
most loyal fan. To all others: you should buy all his other books; they are great reading!
