Colette McVeigh: widow... mother... terrorist. A woman who has lived the Republican cause for all of her thirty-three years. A woman whose brothers are both heavily involved at a senior level in the IRA, whose husband was killed by the British security forces. A woman who is now an informer for MI5.
Apprehended by the police in an aborted bombing raid in London, Colette is given a simple choice: talk and see her children again, or stay silent and spend the rest of her life watching them grow up from behind the bars of a prison cell. Gradually and unwillingly she is led to betray her past by her young MI5 handler, David Ryan, who has never doubted where his loyalties lie. But when he follows Colette across the Irish Sea to Belfast, the very tenets of his existence -- trust, loyalty and honesty -- are quickly sacrificed on the pyre of the province's history. And, as he watches Colette put herself in increasing danger to fulfil her side of the bargain, he realizes that his professional integrity is irrevocably and fatally compromised.
Shadow Dancer is a chilling, complex and utterly compelling thriller about the choices we make and why we make them. It is a riveting portrait of a group of ten people torn apart by the strife of civil war and the overwhelming pull of family attachments.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2013I saw the film which was difficult to follow-dialogue,accents and sequences. Having read the book it is clear that to capture all the interplay between characters and the plot would have been very dificult. Everything fell into perspective and the book was most interesting and very realistic of the times and the difficulties experienced by all factions involved. I enjoyed this book and will be happy to read more books by Tom Bradby. A very good read indeed
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2013I bought this book because the movie left me unclear on a couple of things. I haven't finished it yet, but am finding it interesting and educational.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2013After viewing previews of the "Shadow Dancer" movie with Clive Owen & Gillian Anderson (not released in US)had to read the book. While this was fiction,
it was tense and thrilling, and to what ends humans will go to in order to protect
their loved ones. If you're interested in the era of "The Troubles" in Ireland. Five * was not enough for this engaging read!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2013Delivered quickly at a fair price. The book provides more details, greater character development, and more backstory that the movie did.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2013The book was as described in your caption and in very good condition. I will pass it on. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Livre passionnant

5.0 out of 5 stars Authentic, sad, brutal but nuanced.
Recommend highly. A thriller without sensationalism, where there was a feeling of sad inevitability from the start. Emotions of sympathy, abhorrence and nobody coming out on the right side of history invoked by the minutiae and casual atrocity. I imagine this story could have been written about Palestine or elsewhere. A repeating story in failed occupation. Interesting was the way that women in such conflicts are hurt by extremist actions mainly of men.

Ich habe das Buch meiner Frau geschenkt und sie ist eine sehr wählerische Leseratte. Sie fand es sehr spannend, nur der Schluss hat sie nicht überzeugt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Buch
Die Geschichte erinnert mich an viele Sachen im NI. Viele vom die IRA haben sich für etwas besser gehalten! Einfach eine tolle Geschichte.
