When I was in the 7th grade I took one of those career aptitude tests - you know, the ones where you answer a bunch of questions and the results indicate what profession you'd best be suited for? Yeah, well my test results indicated I was best suited for a career as a government spy.

A SPY!

I think I had the coolest results in the entire class. :)

Needless to say, I did not follow that particular career path - or maybe I just took the more indirect route. In my thirties a very good friend of mine who is now one of the world's most renowned psychic mediums suggested I stop ignoring my talents and dive right into the professional world of a psychic intuitive. On a lark, I did. And the results were pretty mind-blowing. Within just a few short weeks even I couldn't deny it - so much of what I predicted for total strangers was coming true and I really had to accept the "gift" so to speak.

Over the years I've built a really fabulous clientele and all those experiences have helped me create the Psychic Eye Mysteries, the Ghost Hunter Mysteries, and - for children - Oracles of Delphi Keep. And along that way I discovered my true love - writing.

Writing is one of those passions that gets me out of bed in the morning and invigorates my day. I love spinning a good yarn, and when I feel I actually get it right - wow! There is no better feeling.

In fact, the other day I was kicking back after a looooong day of writing, which ended in the completion of a manuscript and I remember just marveling in the fact that I actually get paid to daydream! I can't think of a more satisfying way to spend a life. And let's face it - it's a whole lot safer than working some covert operation. Although - I'm pretty sure the benefits might be better at the CIA. Still, I'll stick to my daydreams...at least for now... :)

I love all of the Abby Cooper books. I had most of them in paperback but lost all of my books that I wanted to keep so that I could re-read them due to Hurricane Matthew. So I decided to buy them electronically! They are fun, full of wonderful characters, and are so far above all the other psychic/paranormal/romance mystery books. I've tried reading others and the characters and plots are rather deplorable if not boring, or maybe written for teen. Plus so many authors have gone the vampire route. That's fine but it makes it difficult to find books like Abby Cooper. I don't care to read about vampires. I am so glad this author continues with this series and enjoy the way the characters have grown, evolved.

This delightful book absolutely surprised me by how good it is. Abby Cooper is a psychic intuitive who has come to grips with her talent and is using it as her career. After growing up with parents who didn't understand her ability it has been a relief to Abby to be able to help people find some of the answers they are searching for. I really appreciated the discipline shown by this character in not allowing her clients to rely on her foretelling of their futures to rule their lives. She limits their readings to two each year and ends her sessions by telling them that they are not bound by what she has seen, they still have complete free will and can make any decisions they chose regarding their future. That was extremely refreshing to read, obviously an author with a sense of responsibility. I have since learned that this author, Victoria Laurie, is herself a psychic.

The characters in this novel were very well portrayed and I enjoyed meeting each one of them. They appealed to me as real people would, never single dimensional, but multi layered. They weren't always good or always bad, simply written to act as regular people would act. There is a great deal of humor in this book and it is very natural, not forced or silly. I appreciated that. The romantic interest which is developing between Abby and the police detective, Dutch Rivers, is totally realistic. Once again, this author has allowed these characters to learn a little about each other over a period of time and the relationship is not always smooth and romantic.

There is, however, one glaring mistake in this book which forced me to reduce my rating from 5 stars down to 4. I am a mystery reading fanatic and I've been reading mysteries for many, many years. When an author gives me definite information regarding a crime or a crime scene I keep that information in my mind because it is extremely important. In this case information was given about a death and then later in the book it was completely changed when that death was discussed again. I kept waiting for the author to tell me that someone (or actually many someones) had made a mistake, but that information never came. I can honestly say that I have never read a mystery before where this kind of mistake was present. Someone should have caught this, probably the author, but absolutely the editor or someone on the editorial staff. But then, maybe not. I've read every single review here on Amazon and this mistake hasn't been mentioned once.

I was really impressed by the writing talents of Victoria Laurie. I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters she created and the (for me) unusual gift Abby has. I will not allow that one editorial miscue to keep me from continuing on with finding out where Abby and her "crew" go next.

I’ve always enjoyed books with Abby Cooper as the heroine. Her ability to predict subtle hints to happenings in people’s everyday lives is amazing., interesting too. Finding Dutch makes her more vulnerable, but love conquers all.

I was looking for something other than my usual authors when I came upon this series by Victoia Laurie. (Great last name, by the way.) I downloaded the first book, "Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye", and within a few minutes I knew I was hooked. Abby seems at times to be somewhat immature and self-centered, but then if that's part of her character, I can live with that. The storyline was different and I found myself drawn into the plot in no time. I'm fascinated by psychics and their abilities, and this book gives us a great insight into their very special gifts. Now that I read the first book, I can't wait to get into the rest of the series. Ms. Laurie is an excellent writer who knows how to draw you in and keep your interest. I'll bet all her books are as hard to put down as this one was. I'm so glad she didn't become a spy!

There are many preconceptions of psychics and what they do and they are a little 'off the wall' - I was attracted to Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye because it combines many elements of excitement and gives a practical view of what a psychic is and what a psychic feels in the consequences of what they do.

Abby Cooper has integrity, and does what she can for her clients and friends, and stumbles into a murder mystery and a man (hunk) Dutch, a cop who can help unravel the clues.

As a debut novel, Ms. Laurie is smooth, entertaining and makes you look forward to her next 'reading' - (next novel) -

If you are interested in psychics, the paranormal, as well as a great mystery, pick up this book - you will enjoy it and want to browse Ms. Laurie's website -

You will enjoy all of the above and I predict you will instantly be a fan -

Keep 'em coming, Victoria!

This book was so-so, the writing quality and story line were certainly not worthy of a $7.99 price tag, more like a 99 cent Kindle Unlimited offering. The protagonist is annoyingly immature and self serving at times, and I skipped pages of description of clothing and relationships that had nothing to do with the plot. I was a bit shocked at the end when there is a really graphic attempted murder scene that actually made me a little sick, not what I sign up for when I read cozy mysteries. Amazon refused to return my money even though I found that content offensive, because I had evidently read too much, so I'll invest a little more time to write a review now, to save someone else the shock. I won't read anymore in the series, it's just too mediocre and uneven.

I absolutely love this series and would recommend it to readers looking for a humorous mystery story. I found Abby to be a very likeable character. She can be a little whiny at times, but it's nothing that would put readers off. Even though you can start with any book in the series, I would advise to try and read it in order. Little details in the books would make better sense. Like her main character Abby, the author, Victoria Laurie is a psychic and it was very interesting to get a glimpse of her world. I can only imagine the kind of experience Ms. Laurie has in her own career.

5.0 out of 5 stars great fast read
Reviewed in Germany on July 4, 2015
Knowing psychics myself, I can tell that the way Abby's work is described has a lot of "real" elements in it. I really enjoyed how the paranormal was woven into the story so easily and it felt like just the right amount of humor (to make it light) and romance (again: lighten it up and for us female readers it seems to be a needed ingredient) for a cozy mystery. Characters are well developed and it is really hard to put the book down...I had to read it within a weekend, couldn't stop. I would recommend this to anyone who likes cozy mysteries with a paranormal touch...

The Good Daughter
4.0 out of 5 stars nice easy read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 7, 2011
Although this is the first Abby Cooper (I think) it was the second one I read and I really enjoyed this one too - the first I read was Better Read than Dead which made me search out another and I think now that I will look for the rest of the series. The central character is very likeable and despite the frivilous looking covers on theses books the stories are as good as any other light detective stories. If you want a mystery story that isn't full of too much violence and doesn't make you want to put your hands over your eyes you will probably enjoy this

4.0 out of 5 stars Anfangs hatte ich etwas Mühe,
Reviewed in Germany on July 1, 2008
