I love this collection!! I was a great lover of the Bobbsey Twins when I was young, and read many different editions even back then. I am now rereading all the old books and they are so much fun to read. There is a slight racist element, because the cook is black and speaks a southern dialect. But she is very much a beloved part of the family and saves the day on many occasions. I would recommend these to anyone who grew up with the Bobbseys and wants to revisit.

The Bobbsey Twins Series speaks to children at an age when their values are being formed. And it speaks well for values, which is something that is missing in today's literature, in my opinion. Some may say that The Bobbsey Twins are outdated because today's fast-paced, electronic and highly competitive culture is not represented. But this series explores childhood issues on a level that is informative to children about the timeless issues of growing up. It highlights the universal in human experience. I love these books!

I was not a reader as a child, but remember these being very popular when I was @ the age for them in the late 1960s/early 1970s; I am so thankful that my 11 yr old 5th gr daughter is a reader; my mother-in-law got the 1st 12 Bobbsey Twins set for her for a gift over a yr ago; they are below her reading level, but fun to have around for a quick easy entertaining reading; she likes "vintage" as well as modern things; she is also a fan of the Boxcar Children & Three Cousins Detective Club series, & this appeals in the same wholesome way

When I was a little girl my mother bought me many of The Bobbsey Twins books, and I loved each one of them. I never got to read all of them, however, so when I found this earlier version of the stories (horse and carriage versus automobiles) I wanted to revisit the stories. They are not contemporary enough for today's children in this age of technology, but still the stories are very sweet and have a good message re behaviors.

I was pretty disappointed with this book. I downloaded it for my 8 year old daughter who loved The Boxcar Children. Unfortunately, this was far more boring than I recalled. We gave up about a chapter into it and moved on to a new book. I think the frame of reference is so distance from today that it just didn't even make sense to her (i.e. making and decorating paper dolls was so foreign to her she couldn't even figure out how that could even be remotely fun. She's not spoiled, but we're just so far removed from using paper dolls that it was challenging to capture her imagination).

I learned to read very early and always loved to escape into a book at night. We played outside during the day but reading was my nighttime activity. When I was 8 I had pneumonia and had to stay in bed for 2 weeks during Christmas break. To keep me still, my parents gave me all the Bobbsey Twin books and a couple of Heidi books. My siblings didn't love reading like I did so they thought I got cheated on my Christmas present with no toys. I was so thrilled that I read them over & over. I got these for my great niece who is 8 and also loves reading. I get to share that one ago love with her.

I read these books as a small child and just wanted to see how they held up - of course they're very dated, but I still love them!
BTW, I seem to remember that the powers that be modernized them to make them more compatible to the time period - I read them in the 1950s and definitely remember that there was a forward about a steriopticon (?) instead of movies or slides!

This is a series I had in my childhood that I loved. At 47, some people would think me nuts for reading books meant for children, but every once in a while, I just need to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and just enjoy these cute stories. I'm very glad I saw this and ordered it. These are awesome stories to read to your kids or grandkids at bedtime.

3.0 out of 5 stars Da sieht man doch, dass Kindheitserinnerung selektiv sind. A bit too old-fashioned for today's kids

War etwas Nostalgie, alte Kinderbücher erneut zu lesen. Würde diese aber nicht weitergeben: da fällt einen das Klischeehafte heute stark auf, besonders das Bild der Schwarzen.
Hadn't realized that the books have racist undertones, but the characters of the housekeeper and handyman are pretty cliched.
