Wow, what a book! I was in the middle of readying and painting my kitchen, but late in the day I started the book, read until late, and finished the next evening after painting all day, I couldn't put it down.
The characters, suspense, faith, and love propelled my interest throughout the whole book. The way Terri takes characters like Blake and Liz, who are as far from relationship material as they can be, and incorporate the law enforcement, danger, all of the unexpected situations, and twine in the faith, trust, and love just keeps your interest at a very high level. I especially like the way she has the Canadian and US authorities working so closely to capture their quest. I liked Drew and Sami, and now I also like Blake and Liz. You can either read the last book in the series first and/or read the first book last, and not be at a loss like you are in some series. Good job Terri, I cannot wait to read your next book.

This is book #4 in the Northern Border Patrol series. Liz Cantrell has been awoken in the night to a thief in her home. Shortly after she receives a phone call asking for a ransom for her sister Jillian, who is on her honeymoon with her new husband Travis. Apparently Travis stole a valuable necklace of uncut diamonds from an international criminal named Idris Santini. Santini has taken Jillian and will release her upon receiving the necklace. Liz will travel from her home on Hilton Head Island to New York to take the necklace and rescue her sister. At the airport she is pulled aside by Blake Fallon, a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent, and Nathanial Longhorn, a Canada Border Services Officer. They want Liz to cooperate with them in bringing down Santini. Blake has a personal reason for wanting to bring Santini down as Santini killed a fellow officer and Blake feel some responsibility for that. They will also have to contend with Ken, the man who broke into Liz's house, as he is also after the necklace. Liz will have to put her faith in Blake in order to rescue her sister. She will also depend on her faith in God to see both her and Jillian through this safely. Neither Blake or Liz are looking for a relationship but they develop feelings for each other along the way as Blake's job has him moving around a lot and Jillian's life is running her antique shop on Hilton Head Island.

I haven't read the other books in this series but this read just fine as a stand alone novel. This was a quick read that held my attention throughout. I liked the characters who were easy to relate to as they had real life problems. Both had trouble trusting and neither wanted a relationship. Liz was dealing with a previous relationship in which she lost her own identity so she doesn't want to get involved again. Blake's life is his job and he had a previous relationship in which he was lied to so he has trust issues. I liked Blake's fierce need to protect Liz and it was nice to see her a bit vulnerable at times despite her independent and strong willed nature. The storyline flowed smoothly being told from the viewpoints of Liz and Blake. I really liked how it ended and look forward to reading the other books in this series. I really hope the next book will be Nathanial's story as he was one of my favorite characters in this book.

I received a digital version of this book free from the publisher, Harlequin/Love Inspired, via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Two seriously independent people, who needed to learn to trust others, find a way to achieve happiness together. I loved this book in the way I could see the individuals learning to concur their distrust. Learning to put God first and letting Him find a way was a hard lesson but such a blessing.

From the very beginning it had you on the edge of your seat. A lot of surprises action suspense and excitement. With a few twists and turns thrown in.

I enjoyed Ransom, though not as much as the previous book in the series. In Murder Under the Mistletoe, I was captured by Blake and Nathanael's characters, though they were only peripheral characters. I was disappointed there was not a strong Christian element in the story and I did not feel a sense of resolution in Blake's character related to some of the personal struggles in his past. How did the history with his father get resolved? Did he give himself over to God? When, how? As the reader, I want a bird's eye view on these things and I want the details. Leave no stone unturned. (Of course, I am also a detail oriented person by nature.) :o)
I will still read Ms. Reid's books as she is still one of my "go to" authors. But I am a little concerned that at the end of this book there is a mention to a new series. I hope Nathanael's story is still written. As much as I look forward to Nathanael's story, I hope the author takes her time with it and really gives him great a love story.

Reed creates an intense suspense throughout, brought on by the well plotted tale, rather than by a bunch of explosions. The story was fast paced without rushing, allowing me to enjoy every minute of it. I appreciated the research that went behind putting the correct type of police officers in the correct areas. Reed didn’t allow prevalent stereotypes to stand in the way of a realistic portrayal of events.

Reed has developed some inviting characters to carry this story forward. Both main characters have complicated pasts that shape who they are today in very real & meaningful ways. She builds a sweet romance between them, built on mutual trust and understanding, as well as on circumstance.

This well written novel reads well on its own or as part of the series. It’s one of those tales where both the romance & the suspense stand out but rare inextricably woven together.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
