I just finished this book and I'm really impressed with the author's writing. This is the second in The Knights of Brittany series and it was a wonderful story. What I liked about the hero in this book was that he always anticipated what trouble might come his way in spite of the h keeping certain secrets from him. He had things figured out and plans put into action to thwart the evil half-brother in advance. The finale was done very well in this regard. As a rule, I don't like h who keep secrets from the H because it usually results in unnecessary trouble or angst. It borders on the h being TSTL which drives me crazy. This secret keeping was kept to a minimum and even the h didn't know all the facts, to her surprise. Also, what I like about this series is that there is a prologue which continues where the prior book left off so there's no lack of continuity. The books can be read independently but I recommend reading them in order. I'm rereading the third and final book in this series so that I can finish the series in the way in which it was written. (I had bought the third book first since the story sounded interesting.) Finally, the author's treatment of both the various H and h is refreshingly different for each book. All in all, Ms. Brisbin wrote a great series and I look forward to reading more of her offerings.

I read the third book in the installment before reading this book. It was just as delightful as The Enemy's Daughter. It was nice to read about Brice and Gillian's story and more about the back story of Soren and Giles. I ghighly recommend this book for anyone who likes a good historical romance. Definitely alot of heat and passion. I hope to read more from this author. Her style of writing is original and fresh.

This is the 2nd book in the series "Knights of Brittany"; and though there are references to the 1st book, and both of the heroes from the 1st & 3rd books make appearances, it stands alone as well. The story of Brice & Gillian is very sweet, with some very funny moments, which I really enjoyed. Their romance is very hot but it's balanced out with their growing need & caring for each other. I really felt like they filled a hole in each other's lives - after they stopped butting heads! They have the typical misunderstandings along the way, but I liked that they were both reasonable and tried to understand the other's motives or feelings, without unnecessarily torturing each other (or the reader!).

The only drawback for me was having to re-read certain sentences to understand what the author was saying. Sometimes the sentences seemed too long or needed better punctuation or fewer pronouns to make the meaning more clear - but I don't think it detracted from the story. If you like stories set it medieval England, with a strong hero and sypathetic heroine, then you will probably enjoy this one too. Here's a taste:

"Since she lay on her side facing away from him, he shifted closer until her back touched his chest and wrapped his arms around her to hold her close. She reacted immediately, her body rigid as she ceased all movements. So still did she lie that he could not even feel her taking breath into her lungs. 'Be at ease, lady', he whispered to her. 'I seek but to warm you so that your teeth stop making those infernal noises when they clatter from the cold and I can get some rest.'
Gathering the folds of her cloak in his hand, he tucked them tightly around her and moved one leg against hers to give her some warmth. Brice waited on her protests, but none came. After a few minutes, her teeth did indeed stop their clattering. It was another little while before her shivering stopped.
'Though I meant for you to suffer after what you did, I did not intend for the punishment to be so severe,' he whispered as he felt her body relax against his.
He expected no reply, for his words were as close to an explanation as he would go, as close to an apology as he would permit himself to offer. But, as she had in most things since he'd first heard of Lady Gillian of Thaxted, she surprised him once more."

I truly enjoyed Brice's and Gillian's story. After trying to avoid marriage, Gillian falls into the hands of the man who is to become her husband. After several attempts to run away and a rocky start to their marriage, Gillian learns how to trust Brice. They have a very passionate and sweet relationship. Loved it!

Brice Fitzwilliam takes Gillian of Thaxted as his wife to claim the title and lands of Thaxted. He must take over the castle from her stepbrother to obtain possession and for revenge of the abuse of his wife. But his one obsession above all else is Gillian. Brisben continues her Knights of Brittany series with another great love story.

Finally, a true romance novel with a hero who isn't mentally or physically abusive. And a heroine with incredible spunk and the will to back it up. I found this book to be a sweet and beautifully composed romance. I have never been a lover of the whole "heroine chases down the man even though he an incredible bastard who deserves to be horse whipped."

Very good historical romance story. Very hot, with explicit sexy scenes and romantic at the same time. Love, awesome sex, romance, historical, and it's part of series, what's more to ask?

This was my favorite book of the series. I liked the heroine's determination. She tried her bast to change a bleak future controlled by a wicked half brother. The hero was the perfect alpha male for her strength. I loved that he realized that only by gaining her trust would he gain her love.
