Torn between honor and desire…

Innocent Margriet Gunnarsdottir carried a heavy secret. She faced a perilous journey to the wild and distant north of Scotland, and her safety lay in her adopted disguise—a nun's habit! But her only protector, a proud, rough-hewn Highlander, made her ache to share her crushing burden.

Rurik Erengislsson had sworn to see her home and unharmed. A woman promised to the service of God should be shielded and honored—not desired! Yet Rurik was tempted beyond reason to make this beautiful waif his own.

Rurik Erengislisson has been living with the MacLerie clan in Scotland for years since his father banished him. Now, two of his family members have arrived at the MacLerie keep with a message from his father. Bearing his father's sword, he is to retrieve the daughter of one of his counselors, and take her back to her father in the north.

Magriet Gunnarsdottir has decided to travel home in the guise of a nun, hoping to avoid the advances of the men she is traveling with. She keeps a few secrets of her own. After she begins traveling with her proud, handsome Highlander, she wants to trust him enough to reveal what she is hiding.

Rurik has promised to deliver her safely to her father. He falls deeply in love with Margriet over the course of their journey. Will be be able to overcome his sense of betrayal after she reveals the truth for him?

An enemy has set a chain of events to shame Magriet and her father. Will Rurik and Magriet be able to overcome this villain's plan to ruin everything?

Find yourself falling a little in love with Rurik. This book is highly recommended.

I thought it was good, but I wanted so much more for Rurik. I was very disappointed with now the story went, especially after the first book. It is written well and keeps you mostly interested. The whole book is just them fighting the attraction to each other, and worrying about the reunion with their fathers, while they are mostly traveling. I like more sex in mine, and there is no sex between them until the last chapter. As the person who gave the 1 star stated, Margriet is pregnant and about a 2 months away from having a baby at this point. She was dope by the mean villain in this story into thinking he loved her and would marry her, before Rurik and her meet. And of course she got pregnant during these encounters. The villain wants to discredit her father, and cause problems for someone else, because he thinks they cost he some of his lands and status. This person is into abusing servants, and some of that is described. He did not of course act that way when he got her to believe he was in love with her. Anyway Rurik being the great guy that he is finally decides he is going to marry her anyway because he loves her. It takes a while because he has to decide on her, or everything he was longed for.

I liked Margriet, and you have to feel sorry for her. She gets set up. Rurik wants nothing to do with her when he finds out she is pregnant. She gets humiliated in front of everyone when the villain makes her sound like a whore. Everyone pretty much washes their hands of her. And she will have to marry the villain, but not until after the child is born and it is proved to be his.

Also this is really not very much of a highlander book since they are traveling and they are going to were people are Swedish I believe. People speak Norn.

Also for those that do not like the sex scenes there is one scene where the villain forces a slave to give him a BJ, while he abuses her with a stick a couple times, and there is another scene where Rurik starts something with Margriet and after she is partly bared she stops it.

Sex content low.

I started with the first series of Teri's and immediately bought the second set which follows the children of the first series. I couldn't have been happier with all of them! How imaginative to use a nun's habit to hide as she travels with the strangers who are returning her to her father's house after years of living at the convent. Highly recommend all six books dealing with the Highlander's and their families!

Good story line and Rurik is a great hero. My issue is Margriet. She is pregnant with Finn's baby and in love with him until she quickly falls in love with Rurik. She lies about being a nun to hide her pregnancy under the habit and lies to everyone while being judgemental with other people's sins. She feels sorry for herself and this mess she created is somehow Rurik's fault. Go figure. The book is poorly put together. Many time the thoughts and conversations aren't clearly defined as to who is doing the thinking or talking. Could be structured much better. For living in a convent for years, Margriet learned nothing about humility or kindness for she was neither.

The story was adventurous, and interesting. The main characters had depth. Considering the key role Magnus played I would have liked to have seen a bit more about him during the story instead of just learning something at the end.

I couldn't put it down. Loved the storyline and the characters! A must read if you're a Brisbin fan! This is the second in a series I've read and I plan on reading the rest of the series if they continue along this very well written path! Happy reading!

I purchased this on a lark and was very happily surprised! Occasionally the dialect written was annoying but I believe it was a sincere attempt at being true to the period. Rurik and Margriet were sweetly contrary at first and that made their story all the more endearing to me. Ms. Brisbin definitely knows the line when writing her scoundrels into the story. Thorfinn was horrible! However, he was not so horrible that it ruined the story as has happened in a few I've read. I'm definitely putting this author on my "must read" list.

Rurik thinks he's going back to receive the love and honor long denied him. Margriet, is being called back to her family after being in a convent for 10 years. What really occurs is a love story, so sweet and strong. I highly recommend this book

Wandered on a bit. I preferred book 1 and 3 in the series, but this gives you the background to Rurik's birth and how and where he grew up.

Surrender to the Highlander is based on the character Rurik whom I fell in love with in the 'Taming the Highlander' and Marguerite, the nobleman's daughter would-be nun. I fell in love with Rurik when he appeared in the previous Maclerie series offering and i so looked forward to following his path to love.

However this book was the worst of Terri Brisbin's books i have ever read to-date. Rurik came across as weak willed, Marguerite was downright irritating and the story totally lame.

For those who know the writer's meaning 'Don't Tell, Show' than this was the classic example of the opposite.

I was bored to death, skipped over most of the 'Tell' sections until I found the dialogues but even so the whole story left me cold. It was as if Terri rushed to get the book out for want of something really constructive to say or do for rurik who was an exceptional character when portrayed in the 'Taming...'

I can't tell people not to buy the book, its up to the individual to make up their own minds and I would not want to put anyone off reading the other of Terri's books, some of which are absolutely fantastic, including the 'Taming....'
