Holly Wakefield works for the NHS as a criminal psychologist specialising in serial killers. She has particular reason to be good at her job - but she keeps that to herself.

When DI Bishop from the Met Police approaches Holly to investigate a recent killing, Holly is horrified by the dismembered bodies and the way in which they have been so theatrically positioned. What shocks her more is when the pathologist reveals this is not the first time she has seen these mutilations. It means a serial killer is out there, and they're going to kill again - soon.

Holly is used to chasing serial killers. But this killer has something in common with Holly that she's kept hidden for as long as she can remember. And for the first time since she was a child, Holly is forced to face the darkness of her past...

Do you dare to look into the eye of a serial killer...?

When Holly Wakefield, who works for the NHS as a criminal psychologist specialising in serial killers, is asked by the Met Police to assist in investigating a recent killing, she jumps at the chance, then the pathologist reveals this is not the first time she has seen these mutilations, which means a serial killer is out there, and they're going to kill again - soon.

This story is told from the point of view of Holly, which is a refreshing change, she also has her own demons which she tries to keep hidden from the investigating team, but secrets have a habit of coming out, the question is, will they see her in a different light when they know the truth and will she be able to help them unmask the killer before it's too late?

This is a great debut novel, in a series I hope, that we are going to see more of from this author, it's a dark and, at times, gruesome read and definitely not one for the squeamish amongst us. The plot is very unpredictable and I wasn't prepared for the jaw-dropping sting in the tail when it was finally revealed who was behind the murders. A very gripping read with lots of twists along the way.

A thrilling read! Once in the throws of reading it ,the details of characters and plot let your imagination take you in it, as if you are in the book watching. Twist and turns which entice you to turn the page more quickly to discover what the next page unfolds. A book that takes you away and allows you to use your brain and get lost in the darkness of the cities of London. Amazingly brilliant! Bravo Mark Griffin

As it’s badged as a ‘Holly Wakefield thriller’ it was clear who the main character was going to be and I liked the fact that she was a criminal psychologist rather than a detective and gave it a different perspective to the usual police thrillers. I was a bit surprised that she seemed to be the driving force of the investigation rather than just advising the police and it just felt a bit off to me. On balance I’d have preferred a bit more of DI Bishop and a bit less of Holly.

From the opening first sentence to the last page, Mark Griffin keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what will happen next in this brilliant murder mystery novel. Read it in a week!

Page-turning thriller with crackling dialogue and some gruesome murders. This book kept me up late and gave me nightmares! Just a great ride from start to finish. Love Holy Wakefield, the psychologist at the center of this story. Can't wait to read more about her!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read - looked forward to it at bedtime

Another book I have had on Kindle for 4 years and FINALLY got around to it. I'm glad I did. I do like thriller\ crime stories and this was a very clever psychological thriller. Of course, it's fiction, but the great thing here is most of it you can imagine happening in real life. Characters were well developed; some good twists and pointers although a lot going on that needed to be brought together at the end. Clever ending and leave that there. IMHO worth a read and I shall go and get Book 2 to see if he can keep the storytelling going.

4.0 out of 5 stars Erfrischend neu

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Serial Killer Thriller
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 20, 2019
Not an entirely original storyline idea but well executed and certainly well written. The clever thing about this is that as a reader I thought I’d worked out who the perpetrator was. However, the twists put paid to my reckoning.
Holly Wakefield, who has a ‘hidden’ past, is a talented criminal profiler. Due to the absence of the usual profilers Holly is called upon to assist with a macabre murder enquiry. Leading the investigation is D.I. Bill Bishop. The two form a good working relationship.
The characters are strong and well drawn although I do agree with another reviewer that Holly does seem to take over the investigation, which is highly unlikely (unless it’s fiction as this is).
The author throws a number of good ‘red herrings’ into the mix and a particularly unforeseen twist towards the end. All in all good and well worth a read.
