After a fight with her boyfriend, a business trip to Scotland is the perfect diversion for Jenny Porter, who works as a virtual assistant for a financial executive. Dispatched to assess a failing textile mill, Jenny instead finds herself determined to save it at any cost after befriending its charming employees. That cost might just be her sanity as she stretches her resources, patience, and compassion to the outer limits.

As she gets to know the colorful Dalmain clan, Jenny just can't say no when asked to help run a mobile food stand, save the family business, put an overbearing matriarch in her place, rekindle an old romance, or throw a dinner party for sixteen on short notice. Then there's the problem of being attracted to the dashing yet abrasive Ross Grant, who has a way of showing up just when things seem almost sane and manageable..

The majestic Scottish highlands, covered in purple heather and dotted with sheep and llamas, provide a dramatic backdrop while Jenny tries to pull everything together in time to save the mill and figure out her increasingly complicated personal life, in this delightful, romantic romp.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Jenny, the heroine in Fforde's latest offering, is a highly skilled and organized "virtual assistant" who, although she has never met the people she works for, manages whatever odd task is presented to her, including going to Scotland to assess the viability of a family-owned woolen mill and, if necessary, see to its dismantling. But her true skill is sorting out other people's lives, and as she becomes enamored of the place and the people, she finds herself developing innovative suggestions to keep the mill running. Having left behind a live-in boyfriend whose annoying ways become more apparent at a distance, she encounters a mystery man with animal magnetism who she finds hard to resist despite his tendency to bring out the shrew in her. In the process of doing her job, she also cooks, baby-sits, and solves the problems of the lovelorn, including herself. Although a bit more frenetic and zany than her previous efforts, Fforde's new book is stylishly entertaining and lighthearted. Danise Hoover

Dear readers, thank you for visiting my Amazon Page.

I live in the beautiful Cotswold countryside with my family, and I’m a country girl at heart.

I first started writing when my mother gave me a writing kit for Christmas, and once I started I just couldn’t stop. Living Dangerously was my first novel and since then, I haven’t looked back.

Ideas for books are everywhere, and I’m constantly inspired by the people and places around me. From watching TV (yes, it is research) to overhearing conversations, I love how my writing gives me the chance to taste other people’s lives and try all the jobs I’ve never had.

Each of my books explores a different profession or background and my research has helped me bring these to life. I’ve been a porter in an auction house, tried my hand at pottery, refurbished furniture, delved behind the scenes of a dating website, and I’ve even been on a Ray Mears survival course.

I love being a writer; to me there isn’t a more satisfying and pleasing thing to do. I particularly enjoy writing love stories. I believe falling in love is the best thing in the world, and I want all my characters to experience it, and my readers to share their stories.

I love hearing from all my readers on Twitter @KatieFforde or on Facebook at facebook.com/KatieFforde

I'll admit, the title and the cute cover pulled me in!

Katie Fforde takes us to Scotland, where Jenny steps beyond her roll of virtual assistant, to try and help save the local mill she's been sent to confirm the demise of. She's caught in the middle of a dysfunctional family and an ex-boyfriend who needs a boot up the backside.

Jenny is great at making the best of things, which made it all the more important that she got something for her self as the book went on. I wasn't disappointed!

A lovely easy read for a quiet weekend or a winters mini break!

This is just one of those feel good, cuddle up in your blanket type of books. I love the way Fforde can make you escape into her books. You wish that you were witty, and charming and enduring like her heroines, and that you always end up with the gorgeous, sexy man of your dreams. Yes this story has been told before, but it will get you every time.(Which is what we all look for in the perfect romance novel)

This was not so much of a romance as it was just about her job. The romance/relationship aspect of it came second to her job. I didn't particularly like that. When I read chick-lit I want to read a fun romance. Yes, this was fun. But, I would like a book that was all about the characters romance.

I adore katie fforde. She puts me in a good mood. This isn't her best, but I still love it. What does that tell you? Look, it's a formula, but it works and isn't predictable as to how it'll get there in the end. Her language and dialogue is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Chick Lit book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 12, 2012
I love this book and I have read it several times.

The book is a nice and easy read, nothing complicated or difficult about the book. The book starts of with the main Caracter going to Scotland as on a job for her Boss which she have never meet as she is a Virtual Assistance. She goes to Scotland to see to one of his businesses and to report back as to what is going on. When she arrives at the place she warms to the people and suddently get involved in saving the business instead of just reporting back that best option is to close down the Business.

She becomes very friendly with some of the locals and also helps out in a "cafe" on wheels, which is not appreciated by some of the family she is staying with as they think of them selves as Posh.

She is in a relation ship when she goes to Scotland, however, she starts questioning if it is the right one when she starts thinking of another man.

The story is funny and laughable, the people and situations the main caracter suddently is in, are described so well that you can imagine very well what is going on. The book is written in Katies usual relaxed style and there is funny sides to all the caracters but also they are described so we can imagine them.

What I love about the book is that it doesn't require any thinking it is just a lovely relaxed story and nothing complicated. At times it is predictable however this in my opinion is what I want of a Chick lit story. I want to be able to imagine and just enjoy the story, I want to be able to put away the book and come straight back into it again no matter if I'm tired/travelling or on a bus or train.

Another lovely feel-good book from Katie Fforde. She never disappoints. This story, set in a failing woollen mill in the Scottish Highlands, has all the ingredients for a relaxing, happy read - great characters, an interesting work setting, and plenty of snow!
