So good. I found myself annoyed because I wanted to get back to the main characters but once I realized the connection of the characters in this book I was hooked. Just as good as the rest of the series.

Sweep 11 begins as Hunter returns home to Morgan after his trip to Canada. He brings Rose Stone's diary from 1682. Rose Stone turns out to be another of Morgan's ancestors, so they sit down to read the diary together. The rest of Origins is about Rose Stone and how she created the black wave magic. The life of Rose Stone is much like most of the other females in this series, raised by a single mother after her father disappeared for some negative or unexplained reasons. Rose's mother has never told Rose the details of why her father is absent, but we eventually gather that its partly due to rivalries between witch clans. As Rose grows up and becomes a woman she falls in love with a young man from a neighboring village and witch clan. Her love is enhanced by a love spell she wasn't supposed to do but did anyway. She dreams of uniting the clans by marrying the young man witch and joining the clans in the blood of her children. She does not wait for his official marriage agreement but engages in a getting pregnant rite on Beltane. Of course he is already betrothed to a woman in his own clan and cannot marry her. She then engages in a magical attack on the other woman, and soon finds herself accused of witchcraft and sentenced to hang by the christians after the other woman turns her in. In her desperation, grief, and anger she creates the black wave spell which exterminates the whole neighboring village and causes such fear among christians that they run off rather than hanging her. Her pacifist mother kicks her out, but she is taken in by others of her clan and becomes the High Priestess of a new coven that defends their clan using the black wave. Our 21st century heroine, Morgan, inherits the family power, but is still worried about the dark side of magic.
I found it disturbing that the author continues to be so misandrist about fathers and men in general. In the 17th century many or perhaps most covens were being run by men. I also was bumped several times when the author made a repeated point about seeing the full moon high and white in the daytime. If she knew anything about moons or moon magic she would know that a full moon is never seen by day. That only happens with a half or quarter moon. Perhaps its a small point, but I suspect that any real witch reading this series will hiccup over her ignorance of moon.

Younger characters, but for the year it was created I would have been the same age. So this provides me with a nostalgic remembrance of how life was as a teenager. The drama, action and the bravado keep me wanting more.

My favorite witchy book series. I re read it every year. This one goes into the BOS of Morgans ancestor and its a break in our main story but a very interesting one.

I loved how Cate really made Rose's story come alive, by adding a book with her book of shadows in it

Although I love this series this was my least favorite in the set I think. It doesn't involve the main characters much though it does explain a lot about how the evil witches come to be and where the dark wave comes from exactly!

This is a very good book as soon as I read one book in the series I became addicted it traps you in the story and you don't want to let go very entertaining and captivating
