Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

There are handy built in features like a motion sensor to get crazy about power saving in addition to the more traditional timed auto power down. The on screen controls are easy to use and the capacitive buttons are fairly responsive. Some people have complained about the power button LED being on - its subtle and not overpowering. The bezels are quite large for this day and again, but overall the rest of the outside is understated.
Besides the speaker quality my only other complaint is that at certain times, the display will hiss. I believe it had to do with power saving features while low blue light was on. Some weird combo basically caused the hissing sound of capacitors about to pop. The monitor is fine and I've not heard it since. Maybe just a fluke, maybe weird combo of settings, maybe just it getting used to being powered on. In any case, just something to be aware of.
- It's well designed, even puts the headphone jack on the side where you can easily get at it.
- Low blue light mode was the only one I tried with a decent implementation (so it was good)
- Good stand
- Comes with all the cables (well except mini displayport to displayport but I can understand not including the mini version)
- Doesn't make me want to gouge my own eyes out when I look at it - a big improvement over the cheaper ASUS 4k IPS monitor I tried
- Decent speakers. So many of these monitors come with very crappy speakers built in, even very expensive ones, the speakers in this were the first non-embarrassing speakers I tried built into a monitor. You're not going to be blown away by the sound quality, but you're not going to cringe if sound plays through them either, which is what I was finding with all other speakers.
The Bad
- Compared to a good TN panel of the same resolution and similar size (Samsung U28E590D), the picture is grainy and not sharp. It seems to be partly that it's an IPS panel, and partly the "anti-glare" coating.
- Although it had a number of anti-fatigue features, it was still harder on my eyes over time than the Samsung UE590.
I really wanted to like this monitor, it's better than the cheap ASUS 4k IPS I tried before, but the graininess on a 4k monitor killed it for me. If you're thinking of getting this, I recommend the Samsung U28E590D instead. It's a TN panel, but it manages to be much sharper (despite having the same 4k resolution) and a little easier to look at.
I'll have to hand it to BenQ - after sending their help desk a complete explanation of my frustrations, they RMA'ed the BL2711 with a brand-new (not refurbished) PD-series monitor which I chose from a most generous selection they provided me. It arrived quickly and its performance on Day 1 has already been an improvement over the BL2711.
This said, I'm not changing my opinion about the BL2711U - it's still a pile of crap - but thankfully, BenQ was willing to do right by me (and it seems to be an isolated piece of crap given the new PD-series monitor).
***March 2018 UPDATE BELOW***
***ORIGINAL MAY 2017 REVIEW***
I've had this monitor since January of 2017. It's May now, and my POV is from the standpoint of this roughly 5-month timespan of ownership.
I do video editing and 3D design with this monitor and I must give praise to the color accuracy and depth of this panel - in addition to the overall look and feel of the casing and stand itself. In fact, it completely blows away any of the cheaper BenQ products of the past - which nearly kept me from buying it. Simply from a look and feel perspective, it gives Dell's professional monitors a run for their money - even if the BenQ design is more about function than looks.
Despite being initially overjoyed with this unit, within 3 months (2 months and change, really), the panel would occasionally flash a large vertical green band (about 1/3 of the total width of the monitor, and not centered) across the screen. This flicker would happen for no more than 1/30th of a second or so before disappearing as fast as it came (I've run it on both 59Hz and 60Hz).
However, this flicker has proceeded to become more and more prevalent in that I can now expect some form of it at least every hour, and tonight, upon waking the monitor from sleep, I found an entire half of the screen to be uniformly lit darker than the other half - as if that entire side of the panel had the LED backlights dimmed - and it didn't go away until I shut the monitor down and restarted it again.
Of note, I can jiggle the DisplayPort cable to no ill effect, and I have already tested it on a different Nvidia Quadro to the one I presently have installed, and it'll do the same thing. Also, I run this monitor paired with two other older, used monitors (another BenQ and one Dell), and neither of them have even once flickered when the BL2711U has.
Ironically enough, I've had FAR more long-term reliability out of the high end, but second-hand monitors I generally tend to get, and I find myself burned and wasting time trying to troubleshoot this one.
***MARCH 2018 UPDATE***
I ultimately RMA'ed the original panel back in May. After waiting no less than two weeks for Ben Q to process and send a replacement, I was shipped the replacement. In BenQ's defense, the packing was the best I've ever seen for any monitor - but that really meant nothing, as the replacement has the SAME EXACT issues as the first. Same flickering and 50/50 brightness split.
Now, since I needed the screen ASAP, I didn't RMA it again and tolerated the flickering for the last 10 months. But tonight, I found the monitor displaying a major reverse color/resolution issue, which I've attached. It didn't go away by unplugging the DisplayPort cable, but it did go away after I pulled and re-inserted the power cord.
Quite frankly, this is just unacceptable for a $450+ monitor to A. Give trouble from the start, and B. In the case of the replacement, begin giving possible signs of failure within 10 months. If it was possible, I'd give my two back teeth just to get my money back for this thing and go spend the cash on a comparable 2K Dell monitor capable of 144Hz refresh rates.

I'm a designer and I bought this as a long-overdue replacement for an old Apple Cinema Display that never really worked 100%. I was torn between the very expensive 5k LG display in the Apple store and a more reasonable 4k screen. After reading the reviews for the LG 5k ultrafine it seems that it has all the same reliability issues as the old Cinema Display so I decided to go for a 4k.
I chose the BenQ BL2711U because it's optimised for CAD / CAM and graphics use whereas the LG and Samsung of a similar price seem to be focussed on the gaming market.
So far I'm really pleased with it and so glad I didn't spend a fortune on the LG ultrafine! The colours are great, the blacks are super deep with no light bleed or dead pixels. The 4k resolution is a pleasure to look at all day, 4k video looks fantastic and working on large layouts is just so much nicer. The matt finish is great and I much prefer it to the gloss Mac screens.
I did have to make some adjustments to get it working perfectly with my early 2015 Macbook Pro Retina but that's not really the screen's fault. When I first plugged it in with the HDMI cable I was limited to 30hz refresh rate which caused mouse lag and juddering so if you're having the same problem here's how I fixed it...
Firstly I had to get a mini displayport to displayport cable - I got this one http://amzn.eu/d/gLIDYF4
Secondly I used Pixel Clock Patcher v2 to enable the 60hz refresh rate at 4k resolution. You can find this on GitHub but do a bit of googling first to check if your Mac supports 60hz at 4k etc. You might also need the SwitchResX app to get full control of the screen settings but mine worked with just the patch.
Thirdly I played with the colour settings and calibration and turned off the blue light reduction. I've currently got it set to the "BenQ LCD" profile in System preferences and the screen itself is set to "user" as the M-book setting didn't feel quite as accurate.
I really like the plain and simple design of this screen. The only thing I'm not super keen on is the stand but I'll replace it with an adjustable stand using the VESA mount.
Overall I'm really happy with it and I think the quality is fantastic for the price.
