Because many professional reviews I that I read online I decided on the Android model for my personal needs. While many reviews here have really good insight you still may want to read professional reviews at computer magazines online. Especially if you are considering the Windows 10 model because of the Intel® Atom™ x5 chip. The Yoga Book is simply a very good tablet and unique because of the Halo keyboard and Real Pen to digitize your notes or artwork. Very stylish and it will turn heads when people see you using the Halo keyboard. I personally love the look and comfortable feel of tablet. I got the Lenovo case too and it as well has a nice look. At its basics the tablet works great with Android, and if you have an Android phone it's an easy transition with perks. Lenovo has fine turned Android to be more useful to the student or person who does notes a lot and/or likes to doodle or is a budding artist. And then there's the tablet itself - beautiful screen resolution and very good sound. Works well streaming movies, surfacing the web, email and on social media websites. Great e-book reader for B&N users. The Real Pen is nice but like the keyboard you have to get use to using it. And if you are big on cloud use it may just be all you need. I think this is great for travel too. This tablet is not going to replace your laptop. It's not the iPad, MS Surface (both of which I have had too), or maybe even Samsung quality. But for $300 or less I would give it serious consideration. Paired with the Lenovo case this is great for student use (high school or college), or for most adults and seniors. Younger children may want to play with your tablet for the drawing feature. As long as you don't need high end tech for special software or apps it's a great everyday tablet.
Pluses:
- Slim form, while maintaining an attached keyboard
- Decent battery life
- Lenovo's multitasking adds additional functionality
- All the features and functionality of a solid performing Android tablet
Minuses
- Lenovo abandons its devices quickly, so there is no chance of getting the latest version of Android. This is a problem with all of the Lenovo devices that I have owned.
- Because it is a lesser known and used device, and because it runs a specially altered version of Android, there are few options for updating on your own with user created roms, etc, available online.
- The keyboard is a touch surface, and it is not the same experience as a physical keyboard. It takes some getting used to.
Overall, considering the price that it is available at, I highly recommend it.
Keyboard - no complaints - the responsive vibration helped me get used to typing on it within seconds. I am a very good typist, and think it is a great idea to have it attached to switch on a full-sized feeling keyboard.
Screen - Very strange choices for a beautiful screen and innovative machine. It appears at times they discriminate against those of us with challenging eye sight. I needed two very powerful sets of glasses to find and type a period the first time (not on the attached keyboard, but a drop down keyboard on-screen trying to enter info on websites), and that screen could not be stretched. Much of the screen print is that way. What would garner an added star rating from many of us is making sure everything is easy to see. Sometimes the touchscreen inexplicably will not respond for 30 seconds to more than a minute, give or take. Because of this, for 3 says I did.not realize to get a full Web page (it defaults to 66% the size of my smartphone), just hold the top bar above the address bar, and the webpage becomes a fullscreen.
Using bluetooth, I actually watch recorded TV Shows and Movies at lunch and find it will be a good travel companion for this entertainment. It is fast enough for ripped stuff, but actual DVD or Blu Ray stuff is very choppy.
Sound - The real surprise is when I used bluetooth at lunch to watch shows. With the bass booster app I use, I sometimes felt like I was there. A sound happened, subtle or otherwise, and I had to look around to see if it was the show or real. What's up with that - beautiful sound. Can't say the exact same for my phone, or any other device I have that delivers sound by bluetooth. Also surprisingly pleasant. with the same bass booster app the tablet's speakers will not fill an entire room (just loud enough looking at the screen on your lap to hear the quality of the sound), they deliver a full sound. I have seen a lot of people give good sound ratings to tablets and laptops, but always found the quality disappointing and nothing I could use to enjoy catching a streamed movie. This tablet's speakers are wonderful in a pinch.
Stylus - My smartphone comes with a 'wand' for my screen and it works perfectly on this tablet, so no need to worry about carrying the stylus around that comes with. If I need to change the tip, I will worry. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why they did not make the stylus compatible with the touchscreen directly (the keyboard toggles into a drawing area for the stylus). For the price and quality of the machine, I am not understanding that choice, it would be useful and makes sense. So to use the touchscreen you need your finger and some say a capacitive pen works (which would be a 2nd pen). The videos real artists have posted show their preference is no paper, just the stylus and drawing area toggled from the keyboard. I prefer both the touchscreen and the drawing stylus area at the same time, and that availability is cool. Also, it took over 4 hours to get the lid off of the stylus that came with (yes, even with instructions). It opens just fine now.
Build - Solid - no strange noises, alignment, or flaws of any kind. Also, it is a TABLET and not a LAPTOP, so the micro ports will be useful the way they are and, as with any tablet, adapters are available. I cannot believe how long the battery lasts (Android version) - very cool. No wifi problems. The machine feels very solid, has a bit of weight, just enough weight to match the solid feel. Sometimes it is lightening quick, and at it's slowest it is so much faster than my prior tablet - another category of tablet.
Complaints aside, you will read a lot of things to rave about - they are all true. I love owning it.
TIP: To add a MicroSD, a special tool was shipped with. It is a prong that fits perfectly into a notch by the cover, which you push in until it kind of clicks, release the tension and then the cover pops open a tad. The cover is an unlikely looking drawer where the MicroSD fits, and then you slide it back in until it kind of clicks again. The tablet will format a brand new one, and do not format it again even if your PC or laptop wants to do that, and it will work perfectly. Lenovo told me it supports a 128gb card, but I use a 200gb chip just fine.
