We have hard wood and carpet in the house. It does a great job on both. When I bought the first one I was a bit skeptical if it could clean as well as a full vacuum. But quickly I realized it does as well if not better than our Orek. Our house is open concept and has a few large areas. I have needed to section it off some to be sure the Roomba can do the area in an hour. Now with 2 I still section it off but I don't have to worry about running and charging in between as much. They aren't too noisy and they can get under beds and furniture that a traditional vacuum can not easily do.
The maintenance is simple and the parts have held up well. I have run ours almost every day at least twice a day for the last year and a half. I just bought a replacement roller kit for the older one, but the originals were still working. I clean it out every day or two after running. We have a lot of hair and dirt in the house with 4 cats, a dog plus 3 teenage children running around. The hair does wrap around the brush roller and needs to be cleaned regularly. But with taking 5 minutes a day to clean it out, it still works like new. I have replaced the filters and I would suggest you invest in a few of them. They last a while but do get clogged up over time.
The app is good and I use IFTTT and my Google Home to manually control the Roombas outside of scheduled jobs. I wish it had a notification to let you know when it was charged up again and multiple scheduled jobs per day, but it does tell you when they are done or have a problem. The Home integration is getting better and doesn't need to tell you everything like it used to. The prompts are silent now and it just starts.
I highly recommend the 690. I think next year I will add the wet jet to do all my hardwood floors. But for day to day cleaning, these are worth the investment. If you have a busy home these are a real time saver.
Pros :
-Set up was a cinch. Plug in the charging dock, place your tower to block exits, download the app, schedule cleaning times or press the clean button and off it goes.
-Handling multiple surfaces is not an issue for this rugged wheeled model. The robot adjusts to carpets and manages to not get tangled up in the fringes of rugs.
-A low profile allows it to glide easily under furniture to clean up a lot of things that I simply cannot reach while using my Dyson. Also allows it to retrieve the oddest things you may have thought you had lost. It enterprisingly pushed out dog toys, pens, slippers and a book from the cavern under my couch!
- The app is very easy to set up and walks you through every step.
-You get to name your Roomba in the app. This is a guaranteed thrill for younger kids :)
- Scheduling clean times is easy and works like a charm. Just remember to keep the cleaning area reasonably tangle free.
- When Roomba does tangle with a problem, it beeps and lets you know what the issue is, the error number and recommends checking out how to fix it on the app. It also pushes a notice to my phone when it completes a job, is stuck somewhere or had an error. It tangled with a ball of yarn under the cavernous couch during its first run and the wheels got tangled up pretty well. It was very easy to fix the problem and get it moving again.
-The manual is well laid out with pictures to help you understand how to clean, troubleshoot and set up your Roomba.
Cons :
- The video advertising Roomba may be a bit misleading in how easily it glides around obstructions. My 690 does learn some things during each run but first it whacks into things pretty hard. Later during the cleaning process it slows down when approaching some of the previously whacked furniture but it merrily bludgeons others. If you have a room full of beloved antiques you may want to consider that. It does have a soft bumper to prevent damage but wear and tear on wood finishes is probably something to consider.
- You do need to empty the dust bin after each use and clean the filter fairly regularly.
- Roomba recommends replacing the filter every 2 months, replacing brushes and Front Caster Wheel every year. I am not a fan of constantly needing replacement parts for devices.
- Sometimes docking is an issue with my Roomba but I think that is because I don't have a wall space with 2 feet on either side of the charging dock. It does dock eventually but it makes several passes and attempts before it does.
- You only get one tower in the box. This allows you to block off one doorway or open space under 10 feet long or a curved zone like dog bowls. If you want Roomba to go between rooms and clean a larger area then you do need to buy another tower. A two pack sells for around $80 at the time of writing this review.
I have Roomba set up to clean the living room in my home. It is an area that is off limits to my three shedding dogs since dog hair has been death to any device with recessed wheels. It is scheduled to clean every second day in the morning and cleans the room before the family is awake. It takes about 40 minutes to clean the space but it does a surprisingly good job. It saves me quite a bit of time since it is a fairly large room with spaces under furniture that need to be cleaned. I have also noticed a reduction in dust in that room this past week. I left a some paper clippings on different places on the floor to see how thoroughly it would clean the space and it got every single one. While the route it chooses may seem counter intuitive to how we vacuum it obviously manages to cover every available inch.
Now, of course, I am wondering if a floor washing robot might not be a great companion for my lonely Roomba. :) Highly recommended.

She hates vacuuming almost as much as I do, but likes to have clean floors. That's not easy to do when you have a giant four-legged furbaby.
We named our roomba "Tina". Tina cleans the floors every day for nearly two hours. And when we get home from work, our sock feet no longer look like they belong to a Yeti any more.
I change Tina's diaper once every day. It takes about 5 minutes each time. And my wife still vacuums, but only once a week, and mainly just a spot-clean where Tina can't go.
The filter seems to be washable, but the brushes will need to be replaced soon. Tina has been working at our house for about a half year now.
Con respecto al producto trae unas barreras virtuales para aislar las zonas en que quieras que este operando, excelente producto
+ Battery is solid
+ Schedule works properly
+ Relatively easy to clean
+ Gets rid of all the pet hair
+ Wi-Fi controls work flawlessly
- Bumps into everything relentlessly
- Gets stuck on small mats occasionally
- Sometimes has issues parking itself at home base
I love my Roomba because now I don't have to vacuum all the pet hair that collects on my second floor and I can just let it do its thing while I'm not home with the scheduling program. It does its job exceptionally well and it takes care of one of the floors so I can focus on the other two, its like my little companion that helps me clean. Maintenance is also pretty easy, with the exception of the bristles on the brush which can be a bit of a pain with cat and dog hair.
My main complaint and reason for the 4 stars is the fact that this thing headbutts absolutely every wall and obstacle, and it really scratches up the front of the bot. I don't entirely mind, but I feel like this is a bit of a design flaw and this unit is beating itself up to clean right up against the wall.
Overall, I do love my Goomba Roomba, and I would recommend it to those who wish to lighten the vacuuming load, but if there is a model that maps out the surface area more effectively, I would push people towards that because I hate hearing this thing headbutt everything.
