We eventually got a new entertainment center cabinet, and I relocated my Xbox to my man cave, but the new cabinet was fully enclosed, and I was sure that the lack of air circulation would not work for our receiver, so once again, I got my hole saw out and cut a couple of holes in the back of the cabinet, directly behind the receiver. For power, I just borrowed one of the eleventy-billion USB power cubes that seems to be multiplying around the house and let them run 24/7. I suppose I could use a thermostatically controlled power supply or something, but I haven't gotten around to it.
Now here's the kicker and the reason why I would buy these again without a second thought: I've been using these fans for probably 8 years now. Remember how I said I didn't have them thermostatically controlled? They've been going practically all day every day over that time. No noise, no slowing down, no problems at all, and all for less than $15. If they up and died on me tomorrow, I'd be on Amazon ordering up the exact same fans to replace them, I'm that happy with them. Outstanding value and performance like this is hard to beat.
I put a set of these fans in each shelf with my receiver and computer. Since everything is set up to my liking and I don't have a lot of slack on my speaker wire, I decided against permanently attaching the fans in the back of the shelf, as this would have required taking everything out and reorganizing. Instead, for each device, I placed one fan blowing in (parallel to the back of the shelf) and one blowing out to the front on the opposite side (perpendicular to the back of the shelf, flush with the side). This essentially created a wind tunnel which pulls cool air in on one side of the device, across the back of the device(mixes with hot air), and then blows the hot air out the other side.
Everything is running SOOOOOOOO much cooler. The fans are very quiet, and even with four running, there only a slight hum if I mute the audio.
I only wish the cords were a bit longer to accommodate my receiver (USB only on the front)and that there were wire screens on BOTH sides of the fan.
But other than that I have NO problems with these fans. And for the price, it is definitely worth protecting your expensive equipment from damage due to overheating or in the case of a computer, reduced performance.
For now, the fans are running at all times because the USB port on the cable box is powered even with the unit turned off. They are are dead quiet (can't even hear them) and surprisingly effective at circulating air. As one other reviewer mentioned, there is no guard for the back of the fans . I would have preferred that they were covered for their and my protection, but there's no way I'm getting my fingers into them anyway. For the price and performance, I'm a very happy customer

They work nicely, very quiet, and the 2 of them seem to move enough air to drop the temp enough.
