2. The monitor is great. Just ran all the monitor tests I could find. Panel uniformity, viewing angles are great. Response time is small enough for me, I don't see any ghosting or other issues in shooters. Gamma is pretty close to the monitor setting: with setting of 2.2 the real gamma as shown by Lagom's test is 2.10 - 2.15.
3. Monitor brightness deserves its own point. This monitor is much brighter than my last one. My room is very well lit during the day, instead of windows I have large glass doors looking out. And sun is lighting the room in the pm. It was too bright for the last monitor, colors looked bleak during sunny days, there were some reflections. Couldn't really view photos or watch movies during this time. This monitor is much brighter, with it I keep brightness at 80% during the day and colors look just as well as in the dark, the brightness of the monitor is on par with the surroundings.
4. Quality of the panel is impeccable. Different controls, such as contrast, brightness, gamma and color temperature don't influence one another. I.e. I can change brightness and it doesn't deteriorate contrast, I can change any parameter and it won't affect other parameters badly. Contrast in the whole range 0-50 is ideal (according to monitor tests), regardless of the brightness setting or other settings. I can easily see the difference between colors 0 (black) and 1 / 255, and between 253 / 255 and 255 / 255 (difference between 254 / 255 and 255 / 255 is sometimes hard to see but that may be my eyes). It is really funny now. Different games like to ask to set up the brightness correctly when you first run them. They say "set brightness so that this image is barely visible". What is funny is that I can't do it now. On any brightness level, even at 0, I can see the image is not "barely visible" but _very, very well_ visible.
5. Dead pixels. I was worried about them quite a bit before buying the monitor, to the point I tried all local shops first and even one in Australia where they said they would check for pixels first (didn't buy because they said their monitors had dead pixels). Turned out that dead pixels is not a big problem on this kind of monitor (4K). I found I had one dead pixel near the side (to be more exact, 2 dead sub-pixels - red and green ones in one pixel) upon examination, but turned out it is absolutely invisible in anything but uniform color test pictures I used to find them. It's just that these pixels are so small here in 4K resolution, that one dead pixel is really hard to find. Even on the uniform color test picture, I noticed the following. I can see the dead pixel only if Iook _straight at it_. If I look at a point 5 cm left or right of the dead pixel (so that dead pixel is in my peripheral vision) I don't see the dead pixel anymore. It blends in, I see just the uniform color in the place where dead pixel really is. On real-world images, eg. some photos or games or movies, the dead pixel is impossible to find even though I know where it is. So, my conclusion is this: dead pixels are not a big problem with 4K monitors, at least the black ones (not sure about bright ones) and while they are alone.
6. I'm not sensitive to IPS glow / backlight bleed issues, so can't report much here. The monitor seems to have a significant amount of IPS glow, doesn't bother me.
7. From reading the other customers' reviews, this monitor has an issue where it sometimes (like, once per hour or two) displays a flicker for a split-second and then image returns to normal. Seems to be a firmware issue from what I read. Well, if anyone is worried about it - my monitor also has the issue. For me it's not a problem at all, the flicker is just a momentary blink and it happens just once per a few hours or so. Probably wouldn't notice this if I didn't read about it before.
I got this after buying another brand's ultra widescreen monitor (3440x1440) and being disappointed. The other brand was a bit dim so I also ordered this Predator 4K monitor and I'm glad I did. The screen is highly superior. Colors are amazing. Picture is clear and super high definition. Nvidia G-Sync keeps things smooth with the 60hz refresh rate.
I'm running this with a Geforce Titan X (Maxwell) and playing Crysis 3 on MAX graphics (including full AA) and it's smooth enough to play. So don't listen to people saying you can't play 4K with full graphics. In Destiny 2, max graphics, I'm getting 50-60+ frames.
Now, I did just order a new Geforce 1080 Ti (which is even cheaper than the Titan X was) because I will get more than double the frame rate compared to the Titan X Maxwell. But that's only because I wanted even higher frame rates in Crysis 3. (Which should be 50+ on this card.).
Bottom line is, you can game with high frame rates in 4K with max settings on a $700-$800 video card (or cheaper if you wait for the right sale).
This monitor is massive and immersive because it fills up nearly all your vision. :o) Highly recommended.
Do check all the main internet sites before you buy because some are much cheaper than others.
tl;dr Amazing, well built monitor. I've had no issues, and the display is incredible.
The joke reviews are kind of annoying; if you look at other 32" 4k IPS monitors, this one is a few hundred dollars overpriced at the time of this writing, but you get gsync. If you're a gamer, that might be worth it, if not, then don't buy it.
Firstly the monitor is big. I have 30" monitors, and it even looks big compared to those. No matter how much space you're prepared for it to take up on your desk, chances are it's going to take more. For my eyes, this is the right size for 4k resolution. I can still read the text on the screen.
I might have won the monitor lottery, but I have no dead pixels, no glaring light bleed, the color isn't obviously un-uniform. However, I'm a programmer and I don't see things the same way an artist would. I haven't even color calibrated the monitor in any way, so take these observations with the appropriate grains of salt; someone with more of an artist's eyes may find lots of things wrong. However, this is as nice as any monitor I've ever seen; it looks as good as my wife's retina iMac, just bigger.
Game frame rates are silky smooth on my system. The monitor doesn't have an annoying glossy display, but it still reflects a little bit. Aesthetically, it looks a lot better in person than it does in pictures. I thought I was going to hate the stand and the logo; in person they're much more subdued, and I won't be replacing the stand. There's also a USB 3.0 port and some speakers I won't be using. The whole monitor feels solid, from its construction to the stand. And Acer is backing it up with a three year warranty, so hopefully if something goes wrong it will happen then.
Pros
Gorgeous display.
Lots of space
Silky smooth look in games if you're in the nvidia camp (if not, why are you looking at this monitor?)
Not as ugly looking as I feared.
Well constructed
Cons
Pricey; you have to really want a 4k IPS monitor with gsync to buy this one.
Need to have a recent nvidia graphics card to fully appreciate.
It's Acer... my last monitors were Dells and they've lasted nearly a decade. I don't have the same confidence that this acer will last that long, but time will tell.
I'll update in the future if anything goes wrong or if I have more thoughts.
Top reviews from other countries
The only minor "issue" it has is that when bringing it out of "sleep" or when I turn it on from the "off" mode the panel comes on, but quickly flickers off, but quickly turns back on. I noticed this kind of behavior in the my 27 inch acer predator, so it might be a setting. In any event, overall good monitor. Price could be a bit lower, but given it does not have a serious competitor (IMO), there is not much to say there.
I also tried reducing the resolution to 1440, but nothing made any difference: pink on the left, blue on the right. Disturbing lack of QC for such an expensive item.
Also, the controls seems taken straight down from CRTs designed in the 90s (they'rejust painful to use), and the stand, even though very sturdy, does not swivel. To be fair, it does go up/down and tilts horizontally though.
I had read about the silly controls and stand design, and was willing to live with that. OTOH, the colour tinge I could not get past.
Suggestion when video card is generating images faster than 60 fps, is for Nvidia, use fast sync, not v sync to minimize tearing.
For most gamers 60 frames per second is sufficient but for competitive first person shooter gamers, it may not be.
Understand however as this is written, that no UHD monitors are presently capable of more than 60 hz.
