The Thief's Countess (Border Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 1,732 ratings

A thief turned reluctant protector. A countess who resents but can't resist him.

Sir Geoffrey has dedicated his life to exacting revenge on the men who killed his parents and stole his birthright. The son of a baron, he has been reduced to stealing the resources he needs to reclaim his family legacy. Just when he’s on the verge of success, his uncle asks him to help protect a wealthy countess. It’s a distraction Geoffrey resents, even more so when he meets Lady Sara. The gorgeous, complicated and alluring lady is everything he’d want in a woman—and everything he can’t have.

With her betrothed coming to claim her hand in marriage and a distant cousin intent on usurping her earldom, Lady Sara Caiser feels beset by controlling men. As if that weren’t enough, her father’s deathbed request was for two lawless border reivers to serve as her protectors. Despite her misgivings, an undeniable attraction pulls her into Sir Geoffrey’s arms. The man she thought nothing more than a thief is more dangerous than she believed, for he’s noble, caring and sinfully attractive. As the threats against her continue to mount, Sara must decide what’s more important—her duty or her heart.

If you enjoy family sagas, enemies to lovers romance and bad-boy medieval heroes, transport yourself to the 13th century border of England and Scotland with
The Thief's Countess.

Review

This book is amazing. The story is wonderfully woven into a riveting tale of highland love. This book is a keeper, to be read again and again.

Cecelia Mecca is a
kick arse author. I love this series. When a new book comes out it is like revisiting old friends that you haven't seen for a while.

For those out there who have not yet read a Mecca book,
you cannot go wrong.

Cecelia Mecca has again written an amazing story that
will pull you in with her wonderful prose and vivid descriptions.

The scenes are painted vividly, making you feel you're there. It's an
emotional, romantic book that captured and held me from start to finish.

This story is
emotional and devours you as you read it, tearing yourself from the book is not an option.
In my opinion, in a relatively short time, she has become an
exceptional author on the scale of Kathryn Le Veque.

Geoffrey and his Uncle Hugh were Reiner’s but not by choice. Geoffrey’s family home Bristol was taken by the Scot’s and his parents killed. His 2 brothers and sister went to stay with his mother’s sister and husband. Hugh received word that Sara’s father had died and he requested him and Geoffrey come to protect his daughter until her betrothed arrived.

Sara the daughter of Lord Kenshire was betrothed to Lord Lyonsford. When her father dies she waits for the Lord to come and be married . The threat of Randolph the only other living relative who wanted to marry her and take over the castle before Lord Lyonsford could arrive. The question is who does she marry.

So much longing!
Geoffrey Waryn arrives at the Lady Sara Caiser’s holding to protect her until her betrothed arrives home from the crusades. Geoffrey knows he’s in trouble from the first moment he sees Sara, for she is a countess, and he is a thief without a home. Nothing stands in the way of true love, of course, there are plenty of longing looks and enough furtive kisses to set the tapestries on fire!

I've sat on my feelings for this for a while. I enjoyed the prequel to this story, it was well-developed despite being short, which is a complete contrast to this one. Thief's Countess drags on and on and on. That's all I remember really about it, and the main female lead had so much potential to be badass and while she was independent i felt like she mostly just reacted to things around her. Add in allll the romance tropes you could expect and the story kinda got bogged down by so much being thrown at it and yet it still managed to drag on. The hero was likable too, but it was just really hard to get into the story despite everything going.

Overall, 3 stars for the solid writing and development of the story. I just had a hard time connecting to it.

The story kept me entertained. It also had quite a few twists to it. It seemed as if it was ending just after the half way point. But surprise surprise it had an impossible ending.

A well told story of a Contessa and a former Lord who discover love in a forbidden relationship! Brought in as the Contessa Sara's protector, Geoffrey and his Uncle Hugh answer the call from her dying father the Lord of Kenshire! As Sara's bodyguard, Geoffrey is always in close proximity to the Countessa
The threat to Lady Sara is vague and anticlimatic, but the chemistry between Geoffrey and Sara is sizzling! Their true love is blocked by the duty of Sara to marry a noble with wealth and power to honor her father's dying request!
A fun, easy reading and sexy book 1 in the Boder Series by Cecilia Mecca. This book is a worthy tale of medievil times!

Totally loved this book and would thoroughly recommend it and hope that others enjoy it as much as I did. Can a former Baron's son and a Countess be together or are the obstacles to hard to overcome. Revenge seems to be all Geoffrey could think of till he had to go to Kenshire and protect the new Countess Sara as promised by his uncle to her father.

Wow, loved this book.
The by play between Geoffrey and Sara was wonderful.
It definitely played on my emotions and I'm not afraid to say that I cried at some part.
I had read the prequel 'The Wards Bride' and enjoyed it and it was interesting to find out what happened to Hugh.

I was given an ARC of this book but I enjoyed it so much I purchased a copy to keep for myself.
All opinions are honest and my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Medieval Romance with a Twist!
Reviewed in Australia on March 17, 2018
This is the first full length book in a great new Medieval series. The historical detail is incredible and her strong characters are realistic of this time period. Gregory and Sara are star-crossed lovers, who by duty cannot continue their chosen path. Fast paced action kept my interest all the way through the book. I enjoyed the twist at the end of the book. This is a terrific addition to the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Lady and the Reiver
Reviewed in Canada on November 18, 2017
A slow beginning erupts into a struggle between classes and a decent historical romance. Lady Sara and Sir Gregory are both strong minded people who share a desire to have their lands and each other. Lady Sara is to marry another who takes an unsatisfactorily explained and excruciatingly long time to arrive to "her rescue" to hold her lands and it falls on Sir Gregory and his uncle to protect her from an unscrupulous distant cousin. Some parts of the story are weak but overall it was a good read.
