However, I am very favorably impressed with this (C101PA 32GB) computer! Yes it is small and light, which is perfect for tossing in my messenger bag and going anywhere, and especially perfect for work (or play) on an aircraft.
The screen is great! I downloaded and watched (off-line) the Fifth Element (via Netflix) and it was excellent. Sound was good as well. The touch screen is really good -- very responsive. The keyboard is fine -- not having a delete key did take a bit of getting used to, and I do wish the keyboard was back lit, but neither are that big of a deal. The touch pad is okay, but I like a mouse, and use unless space constraints dictate otherwise.
As to working in the chrome OS environment, it's far better than I expected. Of course all the Google apps work fine and dandy -- Google email, docs, sheets, etc -- on-line or off. Plus there are plenty of Apps which work really well (Weather Underground, Flightradar24, Adobe Acrobat, Netflix, Amazon Kindle, Plants vs Zombies). But some apps I tried are not that great and load sized for a cell phone. I've experimented and am finding what I need and like. I don't miss Word or other Office apps -- but I have them on my other machines, so no worries if I need. The thing I really like the instant on! The moment I open, it's ready to go. No more waiting for the boot and various updates. And I can open several different apps and close it, then come back a few hours later and dive right back into a document or take up where I left off in plants and zombies. It is fully Linux capable and ready to go in settings, but have not yet explored. I have played with the full fold (into a tablet), and it's seamless -- once it's flipped the keyboard is complete disconnected and the touch screen is the only input.
Bottom line: I'm very happy with this machine and Chrome OS. I highly recommend for someone who is experienced in Windows and Google, ready for a Chrome OS environment, and wants a fast light laptop with a long battery life.
I didn't get any of the issues that keep appearing in reviews. e.g: I think the issues were with the earliest batch. I can use tablet mode without the device falling asleep and I can't really find any technical issue with my model.
This is an excellent secondary laptop. I have a very powerful mobile workstation and it has a lot of power. But after acquiring it I was an interesting experience to realize to find out that there's many things that an ultra powerful workstation CANNOT do. No matter how fast your SSD is, how incredible it is to have 32 GB of RAM and how powerful your i7, windows is still going to take a while to boot between pressing the power button and accessing a web browser. This would be what I would call ChromeOS' main killer feature, there's almost no waiting time between powering your computer and using a web browser. And lately there's a lot of situations in which I found myself at a situation where all I needed was a web browser.
Here's a non-comprehensive list of things this chromebook can do and a super powerful workstation can't:
* Give me working access to a web browser in a couple of seconds.
* Spend 1% of battery in 10 minutes.
* Fit in a small bag and weigh almost nothing.
* Charge with a mobile charger.
But of course there's a lot of things my beefy workstation can do that this chromebook cannot do. But I found that when combined together they make the perfect couple. And this one chromebook is really inexpensive and really is your only modern option at 10.1 inches.
The keyboard and touch pad are really good. Of course if you have huge hands it will not work for you. But the keyboard has a surprising amount of space and keys have impressive height. This is the first laptop I used that did not force me to take a mouse with me everywhere i go. That's how good the touch pad is.
Screen is also very nice. Of course, it's not FullHD. But it is 10.1 inches. I don't think FullHD would have been noticieable at 10.1 inches, but it would have certainly used more batter and make the chromebook cost more. However, the screen is also very reflective and attracts finger prints too easily. I think this is this computer's greatest problem. If outdoors are an important part of your use case, you should avoid it.
Also this is a very niche thing, but it works great with an Adonit stylus (the ones with a transparent disk).
