Trying to finish her nursing education.
Trying to keep Piper out of her criminal husband’s claws.

Big, bad Jed Wolfe is a con artist, a manipulator, and he’s currently doing ten years for counterfeiting. Now is Hunter’s best chance to convince Piper that he’s bad news and they can survive without him.

Except the mortgage is overdue again, there’s an eviction notice stapled to the front door, and Hunter can see it in Piper’s eyes. She wants to crawl back to Jed and ask him how to dig out of this mess.

They’re getting desperate and Hunter begs Piper not to be like him.

Then along comes a beautiful girl in a red cap. Her grandmother is sick, she needs Hunter’s nursing help, and the pay is great. It’s just what they need and soon Hunter is able to catch her breath. Stop running in place. Start to feel something that she hasn’t had time for in years.

This book is perfect for what it is, a contemporary-like fairytale with a splash of goodness to feel good about. The cover actually show what Kiera looks like, shocker. The story actually surprised me in a delightful way, just when you start to feel the usual 'oh boy, the drama will be coming straight for us in 3, 2, 1'... It doesn't. The drama in this story is actually thought out, another shocker. The book is also well written and superbly spell-checked, ANOTHER shocker! Even though the 'scared straight' scene can be a little nonsensical, it shows and proves it's message about second chances. I am a police officer in real life, and even though I normally don't go for the fairytale books and film because, let's face it, real life seems far from it, it's nice to read a book like Seeing Red so your mind gets a nice dose of goodness with one's coffee. This book is NOT epic by any means nor is it a must have, but you know what? Seeing Red by Cara Malone is perfect for what it is and that is a good thing.

I loved the fairy tales. They all warmed my heart. Another great book from Cara. Enjoy my time whenever I read one of your books.

I thought I read this already but thanks to Goodreads I discovered I had not. So of course I had to rectify that and...well...read it. And I am so glad I did. Now I am not saying this is my favorite as Fairest, the recent in the series, is still my favorite in the series but this one was really good. Like almost all of Malone's book it is well written and the characters I very likable. I highly recommend this read especially if you are a kU reader, a fan of Malone, and even if you nust want something enjoyable.

Fairy tales are classics because of the lessons they teach us and their ability to connect with a wide audience. I am all for retelling of these classics, especially when there's a sapphic twist! Cara Malone really modernized this tale and was able to take some tough to portray topics (like challenges of caregiving) and wove them in beautifully to the story. Great read, especially for the romance too!

Why couldn't the original fairytales be that fun? I refuse to read to my kid stories from that era.
But, on the book:
Really enjoyed reading the story. The adaptation of the characters from the original was fun and spot on. The main characters are a little bit too perfect but instead of annoying me it felt good inside this story.
All in all, my second read from the series, and a recommended read in this genre.

Hunter lives with her sister Piper and and Piper’s two boys. Times have never been good for these two sisters but Hunter is working on it. Needing a second job to keep their household afloat, Hunter goes to work caring for Abby who has slowly on setting dementia. Abby has a granddaughter with long red hair....and Hunter has a brother-in-law in prison whose last name is Wolfe.

You’ll enjoy this clever retelling of Red Riding Hood. What self respecting Hunter can resist a beautiful red head?

Even in the depths of mind and fairy tale there is a spirit of longing that desires to be brought into the real world and it is through this simple task that this story captivates and all our dreams are fulfilled breathless on each and every word.

This was a nice story about a growing attraction that has some issues. I enjoyed reading this book and will be reading more of Cara's works. My only problem with it was that in places it was a little too predictable. No hints about where or what as I hate spoilers in reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound telling of a romance
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 4, 2022
This was a good read, not as great as Cinders (another book in the same series) but still enjoyable and with little angst thank goodness. I do so prefer it when characters actually talk to each other and work through the trials and tribulations of life.

Hunter was a particularly well portrayed and pleasant main character and the story flowed gently through her really quite sweet romance with the compassionate Kiera. Between them and their supporting cast of friends, they worked through their issues and arrived at the required HEA ending (of sorts, more of a beginning in some ways).

Didn't bear much of a resemblance to Little Red Riding Hood but, frankly, who cares when it is just fun to go with the flow? Overall, worth a solid 4.2 stars. Thanks once again Cara.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice romance, quick read

This book is a romance. Despite this not being my usual genre preference I was instantly engaged with the story - finding myself very attached to the main character Hunter. I thought it had a good storyline with a very sweet romance. Each chapter is told from a different characters perspective which I personally like because I feel you get to know each character better.
