About the Author

Biography Jesse Hudson was sitting under a banyan tree meditating when he was suddenly struck by the idea of writing a series of books about a young prince in ancient Sumeria. The content of the entire series flowed immediately into his mind and all that was required of him was to type it all down. Okay, so maybe it wasn't quite that easy. Jesse has had an interest in archaeology and history from the time he was very young, and he especially loved the timeless stories contained in ancient mythologies that still resonate across human cultures today. Jesse has degrees in engineering, zoology and business and makes a living designing communications equipment at an engineering firm. He lives with his beautiful wife and three children in Lehi, Utah.

Jesse Hudson is a firm believer that a strong link to the past can help us understand who we are. He loves to read well-written histories and biographies, as well as the more creative mythologies and fairy tales of many different cultures. He thinks that a knowledge of history is crucial to understanding current trends, and that a close reading of mythological beliefs can help us better understand cultures which are distant in time and space from our own.

Jesse has had an interest in archaeology, anthropology and history from the time he was very young, and he especially loves the timeless stories contained in the ancient mythologies that still resonate across human cultures today. He has tried to capture some portion of the vast scope and power of these ancient tales in his "Novels of Ancient Sumeria" series.

I would recommend this book to others, since it had great insights to a culture that was new to me. I love being "transported" to other worlds I've never encountered. In this case, it was ancient middle east. I know very little of the setting, but felt the author had a good amount of details that made it authentic. But it wasn't dry or boring. There was enough modern day language, and antics that it feels like a modern day sitcom that happens to take place thousands of years ago in the dessert.

I love the main character Ammon. He was funny, clever and dumb all at the same time. Hmm, pretty much the same way I see myself... I guess thats why I like him. What does that say about me?

The climax where the main character had to do some rescuing (don't want to give away the ending) was a lot of fun. Thanks Jesse for the adventure.

Interesting smoothly written. Could have had more substance in the tale. Just a bit bland minimal excitement. Might recommend it

Strictly a teen book.

Prince of Eridu is a great book, well worth the time and money. Look elsewhere for slowly plodding, dry drama. This is an easy page turner with engaging characters and an plot that draws you in. As I approached the end I actually started really slowing down in the hopes of delaying the inevitable end of the book. I think it would be well-suited for conversion into to a Hollywood screenplay, too.

I hope to see more installments from this author. If you are interested enough to read this review, there's a very good probability you will like this book. Get it now or at least put it on your wish list.

This book was very fun to read. It pulled me in from the start and I immediately felt a connection with characters. The characters felt real and interesting. I felt like I could really relate to what they were feeling. The plot is also super interesting and kept me guessing which is important for me as I hate being able to guess the ending from a hundred pages away. I also really enjoyed the fun banter that the different characters have back and forth with each other. The fun banter and sarcasm that characters have with each other really helped make the characters feel real and relatable. The crazy adventures and situations that the characters find themselves in also really kept the book interesting the whole time too. I fell in love with the characters in this book and I can't wait to read book 2 to find out what happens next.

We would have enjoyed this book a lot more if it had not had such enormous plot holes. The writer and his hero seem to keep forgetting the main plot. It is difficult to believe that any of them are in actual danger because they completely neglect any type of caution. There are assassinations, battles, imprisonments, and dark plots; they are all in mortal danger, yet Ammon and his girlfriends wander happily around the city. Ammon is an unbelievable hero who goes from being a naïve princeling to someone who scales waterfalls and buildings, kills his enemies, and rescues the girls, without anything in between to explain his abilities.

What we get is a tale of derring-do, with murder and mayhem, treachery, cowardice, courage, and even romance. So, while the setting is the ancient world, the characters and action seem to be as contemporary as those you would find in any thriller. The urban and rural scenery is described as if the author had been there in person, but of course that could not possibly have happened.

The author has done a good job of creating believable characters and of moving them about in his imaginary landscape in a reasonably convincing way. In effect, while the story is set in an ancient world that did once actually exist, there is little other than the names of people and places to distinguish it from any fantasy world that may be summoned up by an author’s imagination.

I enjoyed following the adventures of Ammon, the prince of the book’s title, and his faithful servant, Balashi, as well as the activities of the main female characters, both extremely beautiful of course, Aya and Etana, who display admirable wit and wisdom, as well as a lively sense of humor.
