About the Author

Commander George Wallace retired to the civilian business world in 1995, after twenty-two years of service on nuclear submarines. He served on two of Admiral Rickover's famous "Forty One for Freedom", the USS John Adams SSBN 620 and the USS Woodrow Wilson SSBN 624. Commander Wallace served as Executive Officer on the Sturgeon class nuclear attack submarine USS Spadefish, SSN 668. Spadefish and all her sisters were decommisioned during the downsizings that occurred in the 1990's. The passing of that great ship served as the inspiration for "Final Bearing." Commander Wallace commanded the Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine USS Houston, SSN 713 from February 1990 to August 1992. During this tour of duty that he worked extensively with the SEAL community developing SEAL/submarine tactics. Under Commander Wallace, the Houston was awarded the CIA Meritorious Unit Citation. Commander Wallace lives with his wife, Penny, in Alexandria, Virginia. Don Keith is a native Alabamian and attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he received his degree in broadcast and film with a double major in literature. He has won numerous awards from the Associated Press and United Press International for news writing and reporting. He is also the only person to be named Billboard Magazine "Radio Personality of the Year" in two formats, country and contemporary. Keith was a broadcast personality for over twenty years and also owned his own consultancy, co-owned a Mobile, Alabama, radio station, and hosted and produced several nationally syndicated radio shows. His first novel, "The Forever Season." was published in fall 1995 to commercial and critical success. It won the Alabama Library Association's "Fiction of the Year" award in 1997. His second novel, "Wizard of the Wind," was based on Keith's years in radio. Keith next released a series of young adult/men's adventure novels co-written with Kent Wright set in stock car racing, titled "The Rolling Thunder Stock Car Racing Series." Keith has most recently published several non-fiction historical works about World War II submarine history and co-authored "The Ice Diaries" with Captain William Anderson, the second skipper of USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear submarine. Captain Anderson took the submarine on her historic trip across the top of the world and through the North Pole in August 1958. Mr. Keith lives in Indian Springs Village, Alabama.

Lots of realistic action. A really good series with believable characters. Knowledgeable authors.

This is a great book. Well written, good story, and not my first book by these guys. I can't put it down. I've enjoyed them all. BUT... I haven't been without a book in my hands for 56 years. Since high school. And never have I read a book with so many errors. Spelling, grammatical, at one point one of the characters makes reference to the fictional DPRK leader who has a different name than the current one as Kim Jong-un. And I'm not talking the occasional goof up. Hell, there has to be one or two gaffes on each page. Do these guys bother hiring a proof reader? Or does their editors? I love these books, and will read the rest of them and look forward to more, but for crying out loud, take some pride in your work and have someone, anyone, proof read them. My ten year old nephew could do a better job.

At the outset let me say that I really liked this book, a review as would be expected from most ex-navy men! But a word of warning - the plot has five different scenarios happening simultaneously and the cast of characters is as diverse as the scenarios; so here's the rub - you are at a crisis in one and in the turn of a page it shifts to another; so be prepared for a an exhilarating but a tad confusing ride trying to keep track of the long cast of characters but one well worth the effort!

Not since reading Tom Clancy have I read a series like this one. The action is fierce and the detail is amazing. If you want to be able to get away for a time, this series is for you. Well written and well documented, it gives you hope in our navy to keep us safe and enjoying our way of life. Keep writing!

I enjoyed the action the book provided. However, the authors tout the submarines ability to be able to basically hear a whale fart from twenty miles away. How do two high powered cigarette boats approach the sub, open fire with semi automatic ak's, sling grappling hooks up to the tower and drop gas grenades into an open hatch and down the snorkel and take control of a boomer??? Really??? And nobody hears them approach? Come on guys! You're better story tellers than that! I'll still give you 4 stars for the action but that scenario is incredibly far fetched even for a laymen! Tom Clancy would be disappointed. Maybe I'll try another in the series at a later time. Sorry.

I thought the Wallace / Keith book FINAL BEARING was very good - if a little heavy on the heroic good guys defeat the worst bad guys ever storyline. A fun read, and gripping in the attention to submarine tech and lingo. The DANGEROUS GROUNDS book by these two authors is even better! This is simply the best global politic / military thriller I've read. Hard to put down. Clearly, former USN Submarine Commander Wallace has made believable the tension & complexity of combat aboard a nuclear sub. True - the bad guys are really bad, and good guys really good, but it's great entertainment. Buy this book!

First off I enjoyed the book. Drugs, Nukes, North Korea, Islamic Terrorists--what's not to like! Someone commented that there were too many plots going at once and too much jumping from plot to plot. I didn't find that to be a problem. I do agree with the people who pointed out all the errors; please do a better job of proofreading. Along with grammatical at one point he had Jim the son in the control room in Japan instead of Jon the father! I'm not going to re-read but I really felt like the authors lost track of which devices were going to what country; it could be me but that's my feeling. Also, why bring in details that never go anywhere. 1. The North Korean General observes the US Seals in North Korea which he will use to his advantage--nothing happens. 2. The drug lord observes a romantic relationship between Jon Wards wife and the botanist which he will use to his advantage--nothing happens. Nor is there is ever explained why she's interested in him, is their marriage in trouble? Is she feeling unloved? What? And why bring in the beautiful CIA Agent and never really utilize her beyond shooting/knifing 2 terroists? A little titillation? For what purpose? If the story wasn't interesting I would have given up. A little tightening up on proofing and keeping the story from adding un-needed characters would have resulted in 4 or 5 stars. In spite of this, I will read Book 3.

A very well written book and on a par with the first in the series (Final Bearing). Because of the author(s) knowledge the technical content is all the more believeable. A great read.

A bit like a TV soap, the story is not taxing and heros are many. The villains are bad and exaggerated but that is OK. A beach read but harmless
