I make that lengthy intro, because despite this being a gorgeous game with a light, yet interesting, storyline, and refined (if easy) gameplay, the game feels unfinished. It is unfinished. Also, the DLC's are by no means optional. If you want to continue to play, you will need to buy the DLC's. A fun game, hampered by poor business practices.
As of writing this (12/11/17) Bungie has released DLC1 Curse of Osiris. I am a PC player and wasn't able to play the original on console to get the storyline but from what other's have told me, I'm not missing much.
Shooting Mechanics:
The shooting mechanics on this game look and feel great, much more of a shooter than an MMO. If you were to compare it to The Division, this feels more polished while The Division feels more like an MMO first than a shooter 2nd. There isn't a huge variety of weapons and since there isn't a ton of RNG rolls on weapons there's no real reason to grind for them.
Graphics:
They are amazing and they still look good on various settings. I get a solid 60+ FPS running this game on a 1070 and an old 1st gen i7.
Now for the bad things that make this game a 2* review for me...
Storyline:
As stated prior, I was not able to play D1 and was afraid that it would limit my enjoyment of the story line for this game. Turns out that's not a problem due to the fact that this game has a terrible story line that builds upon very little from the first game. I honestly didn't think anything interesting or new happened in this that I couldn't have watched a 15 minute recap of the story. After Bungie fired their lead writer before D1 came out, they never bothered to hire someone with any coherent vision for the 2nd. Only thing that's a redeeming factor is the voice acting (Nathan Fillion as Cayde-6 is great).
Content:
This is probably what's being echoed by other players and what's driving this game's rating so low. It is also a huge reason for me to even leave a review. This game has no real content, you essentially do the same thing on other planets over and over again to level up and get loot. It's incredibly slow and painful in order to increase your gear score to get to the higher level content due to items dropping based on your average item level. So if you're average gear score is 150 you might get enough pieces that are level 152 to raise your score up to 151. This method creates a mindless grind of rehashed content (each planet will cycle through it's own list of public events, strike's are essentially parts of missions you ran, etc.)
To make matters worse is that with the new Curse of Osiris patch they have now gated content that you had access to before the DLC was released. So unless you pay $20 for the DLC or $35 for the season pass you literally lose content from the original game that you purchased. This game has literally become a cash grab to get people to buy loot boxes for stuff.

This article is what actually happened with Destiny 1 and their mindset. It was written in 2015 and has basically predicted how Bungie would operate when Destiny 2 came out.
The TL;DR is that this game has great shooter elements with a really weak MMO presence. It has amazing graphics but no real content, let alone some of the content being gated behind DLC1. If you have cash to burn and don't mind grinding save yourself the trouble and get The Division even if Ubisoft is a terrible publisher like EA.
The "social" features are also a joke - no proper local/global/clan text chat or proximity voice chat (only a few emote animations as a primary mean of communicating with other players), same goes for a joke PvP system which is only available in 4v4 mode. As it is the game is extremely mediocre in all regards and worth a maximum of $25 and absolutely not worth the "full retail" price, even with Prime discount applied to it. And that's not only my opinion - you can see plenty of similar ones, here or at other places which allow customer reviews, as well as streaming sites like Twitch (where this game has already fallen below games like "Warframe" in terms of amount of streamers and viewers).
