Capture sights other cameras miss
The speed to catch all of life's moments
The Nikon 1 J5 achieves a level of speed and accuracy not even a DSLR can match. Its cutting-edge autofocus system uses 105 phase-detect AF points to instantly identify and focus on your subject. Hold down the shutter button and turn each second of action into 20 tack-sharp, full-resolution photos. Fix your focus, and the Nikon 1 J5 can capture at a mind boggling 60 frames per second continuously.* A new Sports Mode optimizes the Nikon 1 J5 for fast-action, so you can switch from shooting pre-game portraits to on-field close-ups without missing a play.
*While photographs are being recorded to the memory card, the memory card access lamp will light. Depending on shooting conditions and memory card write speed, recording may continue for some time after shooting ends.
Marvel at the image quality
Beautiful photos and videos in any light
Capture in 20.8-megapixels of dazzling resolution. The Nikon 1 J5's all new back-side illuminated (BSI) CX-format CMOS image sensor gathers more light than a traditional CMOS sensor, enabling faster shutter speeds and enhanced low-light capabilities. Nikon's new EXPEED 5A image processing assures rich colors, smooth tones and razor-sharp details in every photo and Full HD video. And when the light is very low, shoot all the way up to ISO 12,800 with no fear of noise—High ISO Noise Reduction stacks four separate images for clean, sharp low-light results.
Dream it, capture it
Outstanding handling and creative control
The Nikon 1 J5 handles like a dream. Its 180 tilting touch screen lets you shoot from any angle that intrigues you and puts key controls—even the ability to fire the shutter—at your fingertips. You can quickly select an exposure mode, including full Manual control, from the dedicated PSAM dial, while the Command Dial makes it easy to navigate the Nikon 1 J5's intuitive menu system. You can even customize the Function button to recall your favorite menu or setting. Bring your creative vision to life.
Send photos right to your smart device
With Nikon's Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC
Nikon snapbridge describes the experience of quickly and easily sending photos wirelessly from the Nikon 1 J5 to a compatible smartphone or tablet using built-in Wi-Fi and NFC. Once connected, you can use your compatible smartphone or tablet to share your Nikon 1 J5 photos while on the go and even control the Nikon 1 J5—see what the camera sees and take pictures!

It's an AMAZING value for $499! You can shoot in Raw, it's 20.8 megapixels, SO, FAST, it shoots up to 60 frames per second, whoa, that blew me away. It also has slow motion video which is so much fun. I haven't tried the 4k video yet.
I've only had it for a two days and I can't stop playing with it, ha, except now I ran the battery out I haven’t experimented with everything yet. The fold out flip screen is so cool for creative ways to shoot a scene. I like macro photography and the screen angles save a lot of wear and tear on the back and knees, when taking photos low on the ground.
I thought the lack of a view finder and only a monitor might be a real negative for me personally, however it's not so bad, because of the flip out monitor.
There are a lot of features to explore and it’s easy to use. I'm really surprised it was only $499, with the 10-30 lens. I bought the Nikon FT-1 F-Mount Adapter so I can use my higher-end nikon lenses, I haven't tried them yet. Since ran the battery down playing with it, and the spare battery hasn't been released yet, it's on the charger as I am writing this review.
I was thinking of buying the new Olympus OM-D E-M5 II, however the reviews I read, mentioned it didn't perform that well for fast moving subjects. I have kids and a dog, so that was a deal-breaker. Plus, I have a lot of Nikon lenses, so I decided to wait for the release of this camera and pre-ordered it with the 10-30 lens.
Cons: Raw files: there isn’t Adobe support for it yet, and DNG won't convert the raw files either. Nikon software is a little lame in my opinion, not a fan. I use the Adobe Creative Suite professionally and have used Photoshop since it it came out in 1990, so I’m probably biased on that.
Noise, a little more than I expected in the shadow areas.
Bottom line for me, there are a lot of cool features packed into such a small camera, and at $499, it's a STEAL! I love it.
It's a fun camera with some cool features: time lapse, slow motion, fast motion, retro film look, b/w, sepia, and there's even a fisheye lens simulation that works quite well. The kit lens isn't too bad with extreme close ups of flowers or insects (macro).
It's got a great spot for your thumb on the back and fore fingers on the front side edge to hold onto easily.
It takes great photos in general especially for having a small 1 inch sensor. Auto mode works well more often than I expected but I also use aperture priority just as much and shutter priority a little bit to get shots that auto won't let you get.
One downside is that it's not the best in low light situations but it does have built in flash. The ISO seems a bit limited to me and there were so shots I couldn't get even with ISO and aperture opened to the max. I might need to improve my photography skills some but I do suspect I've also pushed this little camera beyond what it can do. Still, I love it in spite of its limitations (or perhaps mine). The battery life could be better but it's OK overall.
The size makes it a great everyday carry camera. The menu didn't take long to get used to. It's my first Nikon so I wasn't aware the lenses screw in backwards but I am getting used to it.
All in all, a very fun, very portable camera that takes better photos than expected most of the time.

sounds amazing right..
well it is .The photo quality is wonderful high res and crisp if you have great lighting conditions and know how to use it in manual mode.
now here are some of its negatives.
there is no image preview available in any of the modes except in advanced video mode on this camera.Considering this is a camera without a viewfinder, you'd expect image preview to be top priority at least in M mode but it isnt .However they make up for it in advanced video mode under which u have to select M mode as a sub category. In advanced video mode though you cant drop the shutter speed below 100 why i have no idea.
the next point is that when u flip the screen to face forward there is a selfie mode that activates. If you want to use forward facing in M P A and S modes then go into menu go to settings and find SELF PORTRAIT MODE and turn it off..cz if u dont no matter if u choose Manual mode ,once u flip the screen to face u it activates self portrait mode .
in low light the on screen visual appears very noisy but the actual photos in low light come out very clear.
THE 10-30MM kit lense is nice but when u use zoom it takes away from image quality.
if you invest in the ft1 adapter which i suggest you should, you have access to amazing F mount lenses from Nikon. My personal fav it the 1.8g 35mm.
now one thing to remember is that this is a 1inch cmos sensor like the rx 100 series by sony but its a crop sensor 2.7 i believe, so just cz u buy a 50 mm lense doent make it a 50 mm lense in this case. it becomes a 50mm X 2.7 crop = ---mm .
apart from that its amazing and I highly recommend it.I bough it for product photography and as a backup to my d5500 nikon.
the j5 is a mirrorless camera.
if ur deciding between this and a sony rx 100 series remember this has an articulating screen and interchangable lenses and the same sensor as the sony rx100 ... it is also much cheaper to buy the j5 alone but if u decide to get the FT1 adapter its still cheaper to buy both the camera and the adaptor than the price of the rx 100 m2
the touch screen is alright .not as responsive as my dslr .Otherwise really nice camera. You might want to get an extra battery.
Oh yes i forgot to mention, this uses micro sd cards. My seller sent a micro sd card along with the adapter from micro sd to sd ...this camera also does not have a horse shoe (used to mount and external flash) and It also does not have a mic input for an external mic.
hope this helps.
