The Best Part they Hardly Talk About
I've enjoyed using a fitness tracker, but it didn't function as well as a watch. If you are considering this watch, it's likely you want it for the watch feature and look first, and as a fitness tracker second, but there's a feature in the watch that's hardly mentioned but that owners of this style of watch are likely to find very useful. It's called Goal Tracking.Yes, the watch can track the traditional steps and sleep, but it can also tracks Goals. It's one of the three sections (see screenshot). At first it seemed like it was just fitness goals, but no. You customize the goal. One example they give is "Say hello to someone new today." You perform your goal, and then you press the lower button on the watch and it catalogs that you achieved you goal. Now for professionals and executives, this can be a very powerful tool. Say you want to accomplish a certain task each day. This could be related to work (spend 30 minutes sharpening the saw, for example), or spend 10 mindfulness minutes, Spend 30 minutes writing, or make a sales call, etc.Point is, you can customize the goal, and then each time you reach the goal, you can track it by pressing the button. I thought it would be silly, but it's one of my favorite features. Now on to the other features-- Adjusting the links --The watch does not come with a link adjuster, just FYI. So to remove a link to adjust the band size, you'll need a link adjuster tool. The watch does come with a tool (in the shape of a Q) that can be used to remove the battery casing.-- Face Size --This is a large watch, and it took some getting used to, but I like it.-- Coloring --The grey background as well as the grey hands blend together a little when making a quick glance to the watch. I've gotten used to it, and overall the look is elegant. It'd be interesting to see if other owners feel the same. The minute hand is colored orange at the tip as well as the step indicator. so that helps.-- No Light --My biggest regret is that the watch doesn't have a light. Really wish it had that. The hands do glow in the dark, but it's pretty subtle.-- As a Fitness Tracker --The steps are accurate as far as I can tell. It's different from my other fitness tracker, but after counting steps for a bit, the Fossil Q seems pretty accurate. The step data can import into the Apple Health App but as of this writing, the Sleep Data cannot. Maybe they'll get that fixed. Accuracy here was similar to my fitness tracker when tested against each other.I love that at a quick glance, I can see the progress of my fitness goal from 0% achieved to 100%. I don't have to press any buttons to see progress. It helps me be more conscious of my fitness goal because I immediately see my progress with each look at the watch.-- Other Features --The watch can be used as an alarm, with a press of one of the buttons, you can view the date, or even another time from a time zone you select which is handy if you need to do business with a company in another time zone or on the other side of the world. The watch vibration notifications can be adjusted in strength. The lowest setting is almost imperceptible. You can set vibration notifications for texts and calls, but for me, that's not as handy. I don't need something to connect me to calls and texts. The fitness and goal tracking are the most beneficial features for my use, but the other features are there if you want them.-- The App --I was surprised by the elegant design of the app. Good job on that, Fossil. I haven't noticed errors or crashing in use with an iPhone.-- Do I miss my separate Fitness Tracker Watch? --No. I've found myself using this watch exclusively throughout the day. It's a great blend of tradition, style, and function.-- Two Word --Love it.
