Product Description
The Dr.meter pH meter uses a 3-point calibration method, calibrating the electrode to solutions of pH 6.86, pH 4.00, and pH 9.18.
How to Calibrate the pH Meter
1. Before calibration, prepare a beaker containing a pH 4.00 solution, a beaker with pH 6.86 solution, and a beaker pH 9.18 solution. Make sure that each solution is 250ml and at a stable temperature of 25℃
2. Prepare 3 separate beakers with distilled water.
3. Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the meter.
4. Remove the cap and immerse the electrode into the PH6.86 buffer solution. Stir gently and wait for the value to stabilize.
5. Press and hold the CAL button for 3 seconds. Hold the electrode into the solution until the LCD screen displays a value of pH 6.86.
6. Rinse the electrode with distilled water and blot dry. Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 for the pH 4.00 and pH 9.18 solutions.

5/5 Dr.Meter ~ Very accurate, holds calibration, easy to calibrate, temperature compensated, waterproof, works like a charm!!
4.5/5 Oakton EcoTesr ~ comes in second not quite as accurate as the Dr.Meter
3/5 Hanna Instruments HI98103 ~ convenient calibration with screw, not waterproof, doesn't temp compensate so not as accurate.
2/5 HealthyWiser Digital pH Meter ~ cheap, but inconsistent reading, not temp compensated, big pain to calibrate
1/5 Hanna Combo pH/EC/TDS/C/PPM Tester HI98129 ~ not happy with my experience with this, loses calibration quickly, stopped working.
Seller (Hisgadget) gets top score for customer service, they went above and beyond to help me when I broke the tip (tips break easily on most pens, i broke the Oakton int the same way)
For those who gave the meter less than 3 stars, I would venture to guess their initial calibration was improper and/or they lack the patience for the reads to stabilize.
NOTES on this model:
Calibration MUST be followed exactly as the instructions state. There is indeed a 9.1 solution rather than a 10.0 but the meter will calibrate exactly.
The pH reads do take a minute or more to reach stability thus patience is required. Swirling around will help the unit to read quicker.
The tip MUST be kept moist at all times to avoid having to recalibrate. I simply washed the sponge that came with the unit, keep it wet and over the sensors then place the cap on tightly. Presto, stays calibrated and gives accurate reads each and every time.
First off let me address the dry packets and de ionized water- I used De stilled water to mix the packets. There is a difference in water(s) however the packets seemed to be right on the mark with De stilled (no minerals added) water. The Unit is within .01 accuracy when calibrating, if not dead on. What I mean is that 2 of the 3 packets were exactly what the packet stated it should be. Now it could be the difference of me mixing the packets of being above the line or below the line on measurement of needed added water.
I used 3 sanitized (new) Ball jars, created the mix, drew off the jars into new zip locks as not to contaminate the original mix. Used Zip locks to calibrate on all 4 different occasions of use. All go in the fridge when not in use. I figure the zip lock draw should be good for about 10 calibrations before needing to pull off the sealed up jars to repeat.
My situation was first buying a competitor with Dr on it too (with a monkey on it) they are the same meter except they use different style batteries. I returned that one due to the seller sent me Hanna sachets that are 7.01 and 4.01 to calibrate a unit the unit wants 6.86 and 4.00, creating a false calibration and bad read from those wrong calibration sachets. Which prompted me by another meter before this one that was at the top end of my price range and only was accurate to .1 accuracy. That meter started to act up on the second calibration with Err1 and was supposed to give an Err2 to remedy but never did, sent it back.
I am brewing and vintner so that .09 points matters to me (in either direction). Hydroponic prob not a big deal. But for the cost of this meter, being the better price and better accuracy I recommend it.
I also recommend you buy storage solution for your probe tip. Just a splash in the tip cover till you are ready to use it. The tip is as sensitive as your eye, so bear in mind when rinsing and dabbing dry.
Let me address C.S. no phone, no biggie, Facebook chat and they were right on a question I had about accuracy of meter and not just the display. Both are .01. Your tip should come wet and a good idea to soak it in storage solution for 24 hours before calibration. Never got an answer about using an add on warranty so if you cannot get an answer before giving money you gotta wonder after they have your money. This one came with a card (unknown if it is temporary promo) but register it and double the warranty. Yes please!
