The Prince and the Omega

Rate this book
Rowan’s not royalty – and that’s fine by him.

Omega Rowan Thornton has never been so glad he’s not considered royalty. Especially since his best friend Princess Celia is stuck bonding with a foreign prince she’s never even met. Celia’s solution? Ask Rowan to flirt with someone, anyone, during her engagement ball so she can live a romantic entanglement vicariously through him.

Well, that’s what best friends are for, right?

Gus is royal to the bone – and it’s never bothered him before.

Prince Gaspar – better known as Gus – isn’t the type of alpha to fall in love at the drop of a hat, or at the staged farce of a romantic ball. He’s agreed to an arranged marriage because it’s his duty – not his desire. When his half-brother suggests he take a last chance at having what he really wants before getting tied down to a foreign princess, Gus has no intention of following through… until he meets the handsome omega commoner with the adorable smile.

It’s not like Gus is going to lose his heart or anything, right?

It was only a single night – but the consequences could be greater than their lifetimes.

Gus and Rowan both know that a lifetime spent together is impossible – but for a single hour, they just don’t care. One night of giving into their passion has consequences neither of them anticipated… but will it dismantle the fragile truce between their countries? And will one courtier’s jealousy end up destroying everything they both hold dear?

The Prince and the Omega is a stand-alone m/m mpreg omegaverse non-shifter romance with an HEA ending. It has secret passageways, loyal friendships, garden labyrinths, and a prince in disguise.

This was a pretty cute little non-shifter ABO mpreg story. Rowan has grown up on the fringes of royalty. His best friend (who is also a distant cousin) is a princess so he's had the best of both worlds for most of his life. Princess Celia is about to be betrothed to a prince from a warring country in order to garner peace throughout both countries. Though it is an arranged marriage and not out of love, she is willing to do her duty for her realm. Rowan is never so thankful that he's not royalty as he is the night of her engagement. The king has thrown a ball to welcome the foreign prince and Celia, being the BFF that she is, wants Rowan to get out there and meet someone too.

Rowan's immediately drawn to the foreign Alpha that is part of the prince's party (sorry for the alliteration there). They have a blistering hot tryst in the guest wing of the castle before the party and Rowan thinks he may just have found The One. But it is not meant to be, because the foreign Alpha? Well, he failed to mention that h'se not just any ordinary man. He's the prince that's promised to his best friend. You can imagine the despair Rowan feels at this betrayal.

I waffled on my rating for this. On the one hand, the writing is good and the storyline was interesting. And of course, the mpreg was the draw for me here. On the other hand, this story has some of my most hated tropes in it. Lack of communication. Big Misunderstanding. Keeping secrets. I normally stay as far away as I can from these tropes. Talk your shit out, you morons!

The sex was smokin' in this book though. All growly and manhandle-y and slam-you-up-against-a-wall and come-so-hard-you-see-stars hot. I would've liked to have seen more of it and that's not something I usually say about my reads as I'm not a big smut lover. There were only two scenes but they were something. Mmm mmmm, were they something.

The world building kind of confused me, maybe because there wasn't all that much to it. I don't remember if their country even had a name. I could tell they lived in modern times because they drove cars and I think I remember they texted so they must've had cell phones but they traveled overseas by ship instead of by airplane. And I don't think they had television. Trying to figure out what era they lived in was hurting my brain.

There was some drama and a boatload of angst but it was more on the fluffy side for me than anything. I liked the dialogue and Rowan had a snarky streak that I appreciated. This is a good filler book for when you're in-between reads and need something to pass the time.

On the brain candy scale, I would say this is like an Almond Joy. I enjoyed the chocolate and the almonds but could have done without the coconut.

Fun romp, quick read. Enjoyed this quite a bit. Very romantic too, with good use of trope.

However - please get a proof reader so these switches from past tense to present tense back to past tense are caught before a book is published.

kthxbai.

ETA: This book was published in 2017, and it seems the tense switching has been in there since then. Am I seriously the only one to notice? Surely not.

The Prince & The Omega
By Penelope Peters

I loved the beginning when Gus and Rowan met and they talked, etc. However as soon as Gus started denying he knew who Rowan was and that they were together and started playing the prince who's happy and in love with his princess part and left Rowan heartbroken I hated him pretty quick. Sweet Rowan always wanted what was best for his best friend/cousin Princess Celia and tried to do what he thought was the right thing, but it left him so broken.

I didn't care for the end at all. The whole thing with the person behind the kidnapping and why he did it made no sense. It was a stupid reason. Not to mention the fact that when Gus and Rowan finally got together There would definitely be backlash towards Rowan for that.

Okay, and it had its moments, but I was looking for more relationship building, and was hoping for more in the romance. I love when an a/b/o is done right, but I just didn't connect with the characters here.

I really enjoyed this book; the author gives you a refreshing take on the alpha/omega relationships. There's no shifters in this story but that's what I liked about it; it had originality.

Celia's trying to live vicariously through Rowan - she has to bond with a prince she doesn't love but that doesn't mean that her best friend, Rowan should miss out. Celia encourages Rowan to find his mate at the engagement party but her plan works a little well.

Rowan finds himself in a terrible predicament; he adores Celia and can't bear to break her heart but what about him?

This was a short read yet it was funny, steamy, emotional and exciting. I was surprised by the ending but everything came together nicely. I liked the characters and enjoyed their bantering. Rowan and Gus had great chemistry and the author explored their conflicted emotions really well.

I received a free copy of this book by cheekily asking for one by the author which she kindly gave me for an honest opinion, and I'm so glad she did.

First off I love the whole omega/alpha genre whether shifter based or just power hierarchy settings, throw in some m/preg and its just right up my street. So this book was perfect for me.
This book is about Rowan an omega who is best friends as well as distantly related to the princess of Calabria and Gus or Gusset as he's nicknamed the Prince of Iberia. Both are being strong armed into getting married to broker peace between their warring countries and on the night of their official engagement Gus bumps into Rowan and without realising who each other is they have a one night stand. When Rowan realises that he's just slept with his best friends fiancee he's mortified and unhappy as he felt connected to Gus. Anyways this is the tale of mixed communications and understanding till a kidnapping sorts all the feelings involved into one satisfied conclusion. I really enjoyed this book and all the characters. Reading this book put me in mind of a bunch of fairy tales, where it just made me feel happy and all smooshy. I loved the secondary characters of this book Celia, the princess and all her joking with Rowan and Amelia the quiet strong type, I thought they brought something to this story and I was glad that the author didn't make them unpalatable as some authors can with the female roles. I also liked that Gus though a prince wasn't all the dashing hero who could defeat anyone like in some fairy tales but was more of the " the pen is mightier than the sword" outlook though is brave and willing to save Rowan when he's kidnapped but had a secondary character be the one to kick some serious baddie butt.
The baddie in question was someone that you thought "umm where were you then" but was still even though I had a gut feeling it was that person still came as a bit of a shock as I felt that maybe that character could of had a story of their own as I felt empathy for them and they were so nice and a likable character also.
There was points in this book that had a few mistakes,
* Gus didn't really have any reaction once he realised he'd slept with his future wife's best friend on their engagement ball. Yes it was a political marriage but you'd think he would of voiced a little guilt.

* Apparently you can be identified by the type of clothes you wear as Rowan picks out a colourful shimmery waistcoat and is presenting what he is but it doesn't really explain the logistics from that.

* There were country names mixed up

* Rowan has a little melt down that he's pregnant and then a few pages down its like he's just found out when it sounded to me like he already knew that ages ago so that was a little confusing.

*Would of liked a little more detail of other characters reactions and maybe a scene from Iberia but I always did want to know the ins and out of a ducks arse;)

But the mistakes were few and didn't detract from my enjoyment it had brilliant characters, was funny and although m/preg it wasn't really detailed but on the outskirts of the story. An enjoyable read that left me feeling happy and because of this I'm rounding up to 5 stars:)

A Joyfully Jay review.

I know I say this a lot, but I love omegaverse stories. Especially if there is heat and knotting involved. They answer to a sort of primitive side of me. When mpreg is involved, I usually get all swoony and drunk on all the love. However, The Prince and the Omega left me feeling a bit let down. The premise is great. A royal prince doomed to marry someone he doesn’t want because peace between two lands depends on it. Especially if that someone happens to be a woman. He wants the male omega, but he doesn’t want to let anyone down. Certainly there’s going to be a happy ending, and that’s what I especially love…the happily ever after.

However, I feel like this one missed the mark. I wanted to love it, but I didn’t really connect with the characters. Yes, there was passion, desire, and an ache to be together, but it felt a little forced. Also, there was quite a bit of angst. I had an incredible amount of tension and anxiety while I read this, and I think it was because I wasn’t all that invested in why there was so much. It seemed to me that the story was supposed to be about Rowan and Gus, but there was so much going on, they got lost.

Along with Rowan and Gus, there is Celia, Amelia (another best fried from childhood), and Bruce. Lots of time is spent on them, with or without the MCs. It came across as a book about a royal wedding, rather than making the romantic relationship between the men…like that was simply a subplot. Truthfully, I didn’t care much for any of them, and one of them definitely proved me right. I’m not going to give away any spoilers, though.

A copy of this book was received from the author in return for an honest review via the Goodreads Don't Buy My Love program.

Alpha Prince Gasper is set to marry Omega Princess Cecilia, but Gus would prefer a prince instead to seal the Peace Accord between their two kingdoms. Rowan is an Omega cousin to Princess Cecilia and is also her best friend along with a third member of their triad friendship, an Alpha named Amelia. On the day that Cecilia is set to meet Gus, Gus masquerades as one of his entourage and earns the eager gaze of Rowan. Mutual attraction leads to a tryst, but the two can't be together because of the mating pact. Relationships are strained between friends and lovers, until a surprise event reveals the truth.
This was quite good although there were a few tiny errors. I'm pretty critical about omegaverse, however, I liked the use of an AU with royals and such. It gave the story more of a medieval versus contemporary feel. Ms. Peters has a good writing style, an easy to follow the storyline, and I loved the fact that we got two HEAs.

I was looking for an easy Friday night read and this hit the spot, though I admit I went in with pretty low expectations . Standard fantasy omegaverse with mpreg. Plot moved along nicely. Also good to see female alphas and omegas and there was a nice ff side pairing. Plot moved along quickly so I didn’t get bored. My only disappointment was the epilogue - I’m generally fairly squeamish around romance depictions of pregnancy and whilst it was nice that stretch marks and weight gain were mentioned, I really didn’t want to read about the MCs’ first post partum penetrative sex.

New to me author. This is a mm story set in the mpreg omegaverse genre. As the title suggests royalty and a peace accord are involved. Main characters are Rowan and Gus with Amelia and Celia playing a main role too.

This is a sweet little story in a non-shifter, alpha-omega, mpreg universe. It’s a freebie I received in return for an honest review. From the title, you can tell there’s royalty and, what’s even more, there are castles and arranged marriages too. So it’s basically an M/M fairytale for adults.

This is a very short book, I read it in just a few hours. But it still covers not only the lovestory between Rowan and Gus, but also an attempted political coup. The story is an alright pastime, sure, but the storyline felt a bit too simple. A bit naive. Or maybe stories about princes and princesses just aren’t meant for me.

But putting aside my recently discovered dislike of royalty-reads, The Prince and the Omega was still pretty entertaining. I liked the lovestory. I liked the alpha-omega dynamics described. I liked Rowan, he was a total dear, but my impression of Gus was not as favorable. Even though he was supposedly depicted as the ultimate, heartthrob prince, he just seemed a bit spine-less. Going along with the arranged marriage-thing for far too long without too much objection. But. The romance still worked and Rowan and Gus were cute together.

What I didn’t like about the story was the whole kidnapping-business towards the end. It felt rushed and didn’t really add that much to the story. It was frankly unnecessary and felt like an afterthought more than anything.

When I think about it though, my main reason for having trouble with this read is probably the world-building which I just couldn’t buy into. There are too many contradictions and inconsistencies for my taste. It’s a modern society with modern technology, but there’s the very old-fashioned and Disney-inspired view on royalty on what a monarchy is. Then there’s the basis of the entire story plot, namely the arranged marriage. That arrangement is – allegedly – a crucial requisite of ending a terrible, long-time war between the two countries. But any mention of where, how and why this war is fought and its consequences for the respective societies are non-existent. The picture being painted of life for the “commoners” are actually very peaceful and easy-going. Bordering on picturesque.

So yeah, I feel a bit conflicted about this read. It’s a perfectly fine romance. Though obviously I’m not the target reader. But if you like the fairytale-y story-style, then go for it!

Not a ton of depth, no relationship building, lots of martyring, and more than a few angsty inner monologues. But balancing that with sweetness, tenderness, confessions, love, and a sweetly hot epilogue and you've got a cute and entertaining story about an omega and his alpha with a couple friends to carry them through.

Rowan was cute and flustered from beginning to end. He was loyal and trying to make the best of his rather unfortunate circumstances. He had a great friend in Amelia who carves and fights like a boss. And then there's Celia, not that she's not a friend, but she's both a friend and an obstacle. Rowan has a hard time dealing with her filling both those roles until it's time to resolve the drama.

Gus is a "powerless" monarch who can't see the forest for the trees most of the time. He's unendingly caring and trying his very best to do for everyone before himself. His brother seems a good support, but he's not all that brotherly in return... Gus is a kind alpha who wants nothing more than Rowan but can't see how to have him and have peace. I love his reaction to Rowan's news, though. And his passion for him too.

Overall, this book is very cute, a quick read, and despite its lack of depth and shorter length, I would absolutely read more from this author. I read this book as an ARC from Hidden Gems and I willingly reviewed it.

Enjoyable :)

***3.75 stars (rounded-up)***

This is my second book by this author and I have to say it does get better! I really liked what she did with the story, the setting and the characters. Even though this non-shifter story is set up in the AOB Universe, it seems to be occurring during the Middle Ages, yet with cars. However, they are the only technology that I can recall in the story.

For the most part I really enjoyed this story; however, there were a couple of things that bothered me. First the antagonist seemed to come out of left field. IMO anyone involved in the peace treaty would have been better. Or if the author would've taken more time establishing the background of the assailant, then even that would've been better.

My next complaint is the rushed ending which I feel is directly correlated with the the enemy seeming thrown in. With everything else seemingly planned out, these two things seemed abrupt and out of character for the story.

So, where this would've been a solid 4 stars for me these two things bumped it down to 3.75 stars. Nevertheless, Gus and Rowan's story is nicely told and everyone gets their HEA.

A free copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review via the MM Romance Group ‘Don’t Buy My Love’ program.

To start out with, I'm generally not interested in mpreg and non-shifter alpha/omega dynamics, but I just read another book by the author and really enjoyed it, so I figured I'd give some themes I would usually avoid a chance on the strength of the author's writing and relationship development in the other story.

I am now more sure than I was before that I'm not interested in mpreg and non-shifter alpha/omega dynamics, but the rest of the story lived up to my expectations from the author's other book. The romance is sweet, the other characters, Amelia and Celia, are fun to get to know, there are secret passageways and a rescue carried out primarily by one of the female characters. Lots of good stuff.

If you like mpreg and non-shifter alpha/omega dynamics, I'd definitely recommend this book for you. If you don't, I'd recommend looking for one of the author's other works without that content, though most of her books seem to have it.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book

Rating: 3.5 stars

This story is a slightly weird mix of elements, there is the alpha/omega elements (non-shifter) with an almost fantasy feel, but the world is more modern (cars, characters wearing jeans/t-shirt, etc.). Reads a bit like what I expect from a fanfic, but that is not necessarily a bad thing (just wish there had been more world-building explanations).

I did like getting to see both Rowan and Gus's POVs for the story. I think without it I wouldn't have been able to get past Gus's fling right before the announcement of his engagement (a little close to cheating for my usual taste). I do like the way Gus and Celia's engagement gets portrayed by the media, very much like the over-the-top celebrity news (that seems wrong more than it's right). I did find a lot of the plot pretty predictable, but I still enjoyed the story.

This is a LGBTQ+ romance with a little bit of explicit sex.  A prince is sent to a foreign land to marry a princess.  Neither of them are really interested, so his half brother encourages him to find someone to have a one-time fling with (his father is rather famous for them, hence the half brother, and he does not want to maintain that legacy).  She encourages her 4th cousin to have a fling so that she can live a grand romance vicariously through him.  This is not a paranormal romance really, it just takes advantage of the popular fanfiction trope of alpha's of both sexes being able to impregnate omegas of both sexes.  (Alpha Females being able to impregnate Omega Females or Omega Males, etc.) Lots of heartache on all parts, sulking, pregnancy, betrayal, and more.  This is a heart-wrenching novel where everyone is miserable and trying to do the right thing.  This is a HEA Book (I think that means Happily Ever After.)

There was a very Harlequinn-ish feel to this story. On one occasion it felt very repetitive (the part where Rowan knows he’s pregnant and the part where he admits he’s pregnant). I felt the characters (Rowan, Gus, Amelia and Celia) were all oblivious and dense. I can’t believe none of them ever confronted/teased/addressed the each other on their apparent crushes/unrequited feelings. It was a bit of a love square of a mess. That being said, it was a fun read to pass the time. It played out a bit like a Disney fairy tale. The MC’s meet, circumstances and duty get in their way, they can’t be together but are thrown together, the villain shows them self and finally the MC’s succumb to fate.

An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet and romantic fairy tale

I really loved the omegaverse universe of this story. Celia was a nice best friend. Even if I am a big fan of omegaverse MM stories I imagine Rowan like a girl all the time. Maybe my brain can't accept mpregnancy even if I like thinking out the box. I was sad for Rowan being pregnant after just one great time. I like MM beacuse they can have so many steamy encounters without get pregnant but I know this was mpregnant story from the start. However I am sure it is not good to build a marriage just on lust, but I like the story anyway. Why is the cover of the French ( I think it is French) edition more cute than the English one and the Prince and the omega are prettier there.

Not bad for my first completed M/M, mpreg, non-shifter romance. While there are 2 on-page sex scenes, this is mostly about royalty being forced to marry someone they don't know or love to better their people while trying to shield themselves from heartbreak because they can't be with the one they truly love.

I loved the story shift about 2/3 of the way through the book! The writing was pretty good and I was able to kind of get a sense of the 'omegaverse'

Did it give me a hangover... very slight

Would I recommend it... sure

Amazing

I just found this author yesterday. I stayed up late reading ome of her books. By the time I was done it was 6am. I was trying to go to sleep, but I couldn't sleep so I went ahead and got this book. And wowee it did not disappoint. The story drew me in and kept me on my toes. I loved each character: their personality and their love for each other. And I'm a sucker for a HEA and this definitely had it. (Plus I didnt finish this one until 845am. I fell asleep right after I finished it and had the best sleep I had in a long time. Not many books can do that for me anymore. I am pleased.)

Prince Gaspar is destined to marry an omega princess to make sure that peace reins. Omega Rowan Thornton is not considered royalty and up until now has always appreciated that fact. Instant attraction between the two, but their love is forbidden. Will Gus finally realize that Rowan is what he needs? Will Rowan accept that fate always has plans?

Hot read! Loved the forbiddeness of Gus and Rowan. Was a little surprised with the twist and who the enemy was! Happy that they all got their happy ever after! Can't wait to read more from this author!

This was a GREAT read. I started with the sample, to try a new-to-me author, and when the sample ended, I was like, ohhhhh i don't THINK so, and bought the book. I read it through in one sitting.

Loved the characters and I was immediately fully invested in Rowan and his happiness. He's a great character in an unfortunate position of being in love with someone unavailable.

TWO great plot twists. I was O.o because I was caught off guard, and that's really unusual for me!

So, Ms. Peters, you've got me now! Heading back to read more of your work!!

Prince Gaspar is to be married to Princess Celia. Two kingdoms looking for a peace treaty. It's an arranged marriage but the day they are to meet each other the Prince finds his happiness. Too bad it's not Princess Celia. Celia's cousin Rowan is also an omega. Her best friend. Amelia is an alpha, with no lineage but part of Celia's circle of friends. Together they go through many adventures, find love and frustrate a kidnapping. Will they all find happiness? The answer is in the book...very enjoyable.

Really enjoyable read

I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters and the rather sweet story of forbidden love.

A Prince forced into an arranged marriage and a commoner who is the best friend of the princess the Prince must marry. After an hour with each other the Prince and the commoner can't stop thinking about each other but it's too late until one of them falls pregnant and is kidnapped. The Prince will do anything to find his love even if it means he must stop the wedding. Recommended.

I wanted this book to be longer, so that we would be able to explore the various characters more. Gaspar, Bruce, Celia, Amelia, and Rowan were all interesting characters and it would have been great to delve into their interactions and relations to understand how they all think and work together. Instead, we get more of a summary of over a year of their lives with little vignettes to show specific pivotal scenes.

Celia is a princess that wants to marry someone she loves, but is being forced to marry prince Gus and he doesn't want to marry her since he wants to marry someone he loves. They are both agreeing to marry each other to end a war. This story could have been better, the relationship for Celia wasn't really developed only the one for Gus. The story jumped around, but really get into depth with anything. I voluntarily reviewed this book.

I enjoyed this little read. A bit of angst, a bit of really hot sex and a bit of Mpreg. It was a bit of insta-love and had a bunch of miscommunication not to mention how Rowan hid from those most important to him because of his pregnancy. How sad but understandable. I got a little emotional which was surprising because this wasn't exactly a deep read. I do wish they'd gotten together sooner and there were more of those smokin' sex scenes but overall a fun book.

I love royalty romance and this book was adorable.

The ending felt a little forced,

It was a cliche when but it was fine.

The couple was cool though.
