A live favorite in their hometown of Detroit, Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas have teamed up with legendary rock-pop producer/entrepreneur Richard Gotteher’s label, Instant, to release this five-song EP. It gives audiences a chance to own the songs they’ve heard in concert and lets newcomers sample the group’s talents in an easily digestible dose. Motor City bands are known for their energy, and this ensemble doesn’t disappoint: they've got brash horns, pumping drums, and a singer in Jessica Hernandez who isn’t afraid to go all the way with a sassy vocal. The group's vintage pop-rock styles of the ‘50s and ‘60s match up with a gypsy-cabaret soul. Producer Milo Froideval handles “Caught Up” and “Shadow Boy,” while the band self-produces “Big Town” and “Picture Me with You (Carrie Threesome),” but the songs flow without interruption. The slow burner “Shadow Boy,” in particular, gives Hernandez a great platform for showing off her impressive emotional and musical range.
