I was even able to get this at a discounted price on amazon, which was even better. Once I had it set up to "talk" to my router, I just took it downstairs, plugged it in to an outlet near the TV, and we are good to go. I also like that the Nighthawk app gives me good info on what devices are connected to it, and how well it's working.
Update 23 DEC 19 - I recently had a problem with connecting Roku devices. Problem with Roku solved! I have a Netgear EX7300v2 Extender that has the "smart connect/smart roaming" feature. This feature enables you to use one Wi-Fi name throughout the house. The feature is supposed to intelligently connect your device to the best network available (2.4 or 5Ghz). Apparently the Roku did not like this setup. I have since disabled the feature and now I have three distinct Wi-Fi names to connect to (The base router, and the 2EXT/5EXT signals). I connected to the 5Ghz signal and the flood gates opened! All green check marks now and a super fast signal with no buffering. On speed tests with other devices, the speed is now steadier and more consistent. If there are any Netgear techs out there looking at this review, you guys may want to look into your smart connect feature.
I sprung the extra money in hopes of a fast and reliable device, and feel like I got hosed because it doesn't turn into a useless piece of junk until the return period is over. It's sad, because when it does work, it is absolutely wonderful, but power cycling on a daily basis is unacceptable. This is not my first bad experience with a netgear device, but it will be my last. I am done with their products. D-link, Asus, and linksys/cisco have all proven far more reliable. It was a stupid move going for netgear knowing that their products always had connectivity issues for me in the past, but I figured I would give them another shot after a decade of avoiding them. Now I avoid them for life. I recommend others do the same. I am an advanced pc builder and systems administrator with 20+ years experience, and have yet to find anything with the netgear name on it worth my time. Hope this helps at least one other person avoid this headache.
Still, after placement which the extender said was optimal, I was not getting a signal boost to our fire stick equipped TV’s in the back rooms of our lower floor. Our router is upstairs. However, the WiFi signal on my phone was boosted? I googled around and someone suggested that I unplug the fire sticks and then plug them back in. Wow!! Awesome signal and I didn’t even have to figure out how to add a device with the application.
