A Midsummer Night's Fling

This was a delightful story. If you're a fan of plays you will just love this one. Nicola and Max have a past. An on and off again type a relationship. They broke each others' heart and have not seen one another in a long time. Now they must work together to bring the Midsummer Nights play to life. This book gives you a look at how a play comes together with rehearsals, costumes designs, and the unpleasant people you sometimes have to work with. Can Max and Nicola work together without their explosive chemistry get in the way? Will they make the same past mistakes? I liked the flow of the book and the characters. They all had their quirks that brought life to this book. Plus all the events that make this play seem like a curse.

Starting out as high school sweethearts, they loved hard and broke up often, continuing the pattern until they just couldn't. Eight years later, Nicola has put all of that behind her, making a life for herself doing what she loves. Sort of. When Max shows up with an offer that will mean working in close quarters with him again, Nicola does the only logical thing. She says yes... Like most readers, I have my go-to authors, ones that I would move immediately to the top of my TBR when their books go live. Imagine, then, how intrigued I was, when one of my favorites recommended a new author, one that she was so sure of, she was publishing that author's book. Color me excited, and sign me up. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S FLING by new author Eliza Walker was such a lovely read. If you think that there's not plenty of romance, passion, and intrigue amongst a current-day troupe of Shakespearean actors and actresses, I've got news for you: you couldn't be more wrong. Eliza has done a great job of writing characters that are passionate about their craft, of making dramatic lines and sonnets interesting and inspiring, and of writing a sexy and emotional second-chance love story. I love that Max is written as flawed, yet reformed, aware of the things that didn't work for him in the past, and willing to do whatever it takes to emerge as a changed and better man for Nicola. And, Nicola, having made choices before that broke her, is now a strong woman, less willing to give up the things that matter to her, yet still self-aware enough to know when to bend. I loved everything about this book, from the glimpses of life in the theater, to the rich and strong personalities of all of the characters. Eliza Walker is an author to watch, because I believe that she will be gracing us with plenty of good books in the future. I happily recommend A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S FLING, and look forward to reading more books by Eliza.

This book was truly exceptional! Completely full of detail, attention, charm and spellbinding pages. Filled with more drama than a soap opera; as the characters of this story act out their rehearsal for a large production of A Midsummer Nights Dream. Their struggles, their emotions, the battle to be perfection. The drama is a roller coaster ride of words; exciting to read, full of power, & often leaving you breathless. It has a Shakespearean twist that reminds you of the first movie, play, book or Shakespeare experience you ever had. Captivating your soul & infiltrating your heart all over again. Eliza Walker filled this novel with culture adding momentous lines everywhere. The steamy love affair fills you with warmth as you engage into the heart & mind of the star crossed lovers. Never failing to ramp up your pulse with an explosive encounter. The amount of Shakespeare lines & lingo may be daunting for some readers, but the story is astounding taking you away & mesmerizing you into the novel and into the play production.
