Rock Solid (Vancouver Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 101 ratings

Beneath the quaint facade of unassuming Vancouver, where some luxuriate on private yachts and others binge on heroin and prostitution, one man flies, one blackmails, and another needs a dentist.
Picking up in the flaming aftermath of Burn, Rock Solid reaches further still into the depths of humanity's desire, greed, and unfaltering stupidity as blackmail begins to take hold.
From Vancouver's cushy condo love seats to the filthy go-go brothels of Bangkok and the mountains of Kenya, Rock Solid will leave you gaping as Paul Slatter takes another journey through the hideaways of the seedy, the exploitative, and the just plain strange.

Praise for Rock Solid:

Goodreads:
If you love wacky characters in unconventional settings. Great dialogue twisty plot all a little offbeat and quirky then this is for you. I can't wait for next book

Goodreads:
This is the sequel to Burn and you need to read that one first in order to really get this one. Rock Solid is even more outrageous. Same wacky characters and then some, throw in a few odd ball villains, add some action, some dry, understated humor, some raunch, a little bit of sweet romance and you have this book.

Goodreads:
A very well done sequel to Burn. Paul Slatter’s characters carried over nicely from the first novel.

Born and raised in London, England, Paul has traveled extensively throughout the world, living and working in the film industry. He is a writer, filmmaker, a natural comedian and an observer of all - with a keen eye for what is 'good' and 'bad' in the human condition and for everything in between. From the ghettos of Morocco to gang-wars in Bulgaria and the underbelly of London and Bangkok, his fifty-four years participating in this great human comedy have left him with an incredibly pragmatic feel for the macabre and a wicked sense of humor, all of which weaves its way through every bit of every story that make up his hilariously dark novels.

Paul is married, has four children and lives both in Vancouver, Canada and Thailand.

This novel was as pleasant a surprise as the first. As funny, and maybe even more thrilling, but in completely different ways. Most of my favorite (no spoiler) of these unusual suspects are back with a vengeance, and all the new quirky and menancing characters make it just as entertaining as the first, but in a completely different way.
Some of the descriptions and situations left me laughing out loud. And then I would go back and find even more to laugh about layered in. Slatter somehow manages to be in your face and dry at the same time. Another easy but highly entertaining read. I’ll definitely keep reading.

Good book second in the series but better than the first. Loved the book and the characters but not sure if I would have liked it so much if I had not read the first book "Burn". Looking forward to a sequel from Paul Slater.

Fun characters, maybe a bit light on development . Expectations were met as I really read it for light entertainment.

This story picks up where "Burn" ended. Though it took a little bit of time to get back into the characters "Rock Solid" quickly develops into a vibrant story. This book comes with a dark sense of humor; it's not laugh out loud but it's funny none the less.

It took until about 30% for me to get into this book, but then it really peaked my interest. There is some evolution of the main characters but I hope that their futures will be made clear in subsequent books. I really want to see how Dan, Dennis, and Chandrill and Trish end up The ending of this book leaves you primed and ready for the third book in the series.

We have another winner!
Suspense, laughter, outrageousness.
The characters we've come to know plus some new ones that had to go.
Now, onto Book 3.

Pretty good story. Lots of larger than life characters. Not thrilled with the constant use of the "C" word.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny but overlong.

Reuniting many of the characters from the opening book, Burn, Rock Solid is a longer read and loses some of its impact as a result. Whereas Burn started off with several individuals doing their own thing before a strong storyline emerged, Rock Solid has a thread in place pretty much from the beginning and ropes in peripheral stories and new faces as the book progresses. Although the same outlandish humour is in place, there are some more serious strands and at times, the overall feel of the book is quite maudlin.

Hopefully the closing book in the trilogy will be snappier and have the same sort of spontaneity as Burn.
