    Flimsy prosumer monopod

    Flimsy prosumer monopod
I picked this up to hold my Canon 400 2.8L. I've been using Bogen Manfrotto monopods for years working as a photojournalist on the sidelines for the last 15 years. The first thing I noticed was that it's thinner than any other Bogen I've ever used. This also cuts weight, so I initially didn't mind, although its not very confidence inspiring when you consider its holding a $6000 lens. Muscle memory, if anything, causes you to have discomfort. The difference in thickness threw me off when switching from my 400 to my second body as the action got closer.I shot my first game today, and I noticed that the monopod bows and bends with the weight. I dont think anything is going to come crashing to the ground, but its enough to make my frame bob up and down with the flex of the monopod. Also, since its a narrow pod, it kept sinking into the ARTIFICIAL turf, as if shooting in mud. The weight is too much for such a narrow footprint.CONCLUSION:This is a nice lightweight monopod that extends further than my last thicker and more stable monopod. The extra length allows you to stand on a decline and shoot while keeping your eyecup at eye level. I did find the flex to be a dealbreaker, and will be returning it. I would highly recommend this monopod for light duty use, but its just not cut out for professional use. I hand hold my 300 2.8, 70-200 2.8, and anything smaller, so personally, I dont see a use for this unless you're shooting low light.
