having owned the original hammerheads and they have lasted me until now due to my kid damaging the input jack I am happy about the purchase. i normally buy these headphones because a) i toss around iphone headphones and wash them because they are cheaper b) i can use these on my laptop for home and work then just connect to my gaming pc. i normally have 3 songs i test headphones with to see if the base is at the range i would like and this was surprising. it actually picked up the bass that my old hammerheads wouldnt and that my old car sub system would when i was a kid.
as far as build quality is better than last gen. few changes. the ear buds are exactly the same rigid texture. if you are new to these they will make your ears hurt for a weak if you have Pu**y ears like mine. if you owned the last gen they wont bother you. if you are new it takes a week. im assuming they did this to hold the massive drivers. you are getting pretty good quality buds for the price. AGAIN some of you will hate this others wont care. my suggestion. man up, its worth it. your ears will toughen.
mic. works great.
I am not anyone special in the music industry or care about have sienhiser or bose quality sound. im a casual pc gamer/engineer. when im coding for hours these work for me. cord doesn't get in the way. much better cable than previous
Razer is still making these for the moment, and I gave them a go. Sound quality is excellent. There's no active noise cancellation, so you rely on the passive noise cancellation from a good fit in your ear. While they do come with several options for swapping the rubber tips, I wasn't totally happy with any of them so I used the ones I had from a different set of earbuds I own that don't have an inline mic.
The inline volume control is a bit finicky, but honestly most of the time I'll just control volume from the device, be it my Xbox or my phone.
The build quality is real sturdy, too.
First of all, they're earbuds. Regardless of what the product description says, you will never achieve the bass response of a good set of on-ear or over-the-ear headphones. If you're ordering these with that expectation, you're gonna have a bad time. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to keep in mind with earbuds is, if they aren't sealing properly in your ear they will sound like hot garbage. When I opened them up, I put them in with the ends they ship with and thought "well that other review I read was 100% correct, they sound like crap". Guess what, those ends weren't sealing properly. When I put a different set of ends on the buds so they would seal in my ears, it made a world of difference. These headphones sound great and completely meet my expectation of sound quality.
So why 4 stars instead of 5? In an effort to have a good look, Razer over-designed the buds. There is an edge that surrounds the bud and the material makes them have a noticeable weight and can cause discomfort. It's not a "these are going to pull your head down when they're in" kind of weight, but for ear buds it's obvious they are a bit heavier. The edge that I mentioned will feel a bit weird as you're adjusting to getting them positioned right. Some of you might not like it at all, so if you're considerate of the tactile aspect, I'd probably avoid these.
This is getting long winded so I'll end it by saying, if you wear glasses and are looking for an alternative to on or over-the-ear headphones these are great. If you're just going to be using them with a PC, you can probably go with the $50 pair that doesn't have the controls. I wanted the flexibility so I went with this pair but the controls do nothing on PC.
