I started with a Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout Case, a 8700k processor, Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb memory, EVGA G3 750 80+ Gold psu, Corsair H115i liquid CPU cooler, etc. Assembly was very straightforward, and this MB made it very easy. Everything when in fine, the inputs are clearly labeled, the manual comprehensive, providing a step by step instructions as well as full diagrams and then details about the included overclocking software (my next step of learning). I was a little nervous due to some of the negative reviews, but everything worked out perfectly for me. I had to change some settings to not have the board look for a CPU fan, but once I did that, it turned on like it had been prebuilt.
This board provides bluetooth and wi-fi without adding anything extra, and both work really well for me, as well if not better than the card I used in my last desktop.
I'm not a master at PC building, so mine is more of an encouragement to those who are new to this process, that yes, this is indeed a welcoming place to start so that you have a high quality PC that can last a while.
I really like the things you take for granted with this board... Higher quality parts, lots of features, awesome RoG branding, RGB lighting. The extra buttons for reset, safe mode and retry are a god-send, especially for overclocking memory.
Documentation needs some effort. There are so many BIOS settings where the description is the same as the name, or there's no way to figure out what the value defaults to when set to auto. Much of this hasn't changed since I bought my last Asus mobo in 2013. How much could it cost to pay 1 writer to do each option once per mobo generation? Raja's posts are great but don't cover all the bases and are almost all 2-4 motherboard generations old.
Asus needs to invest some time in their software (AI Suite, Aura, BIOS). A lot of the same old issues that have been present for several generations are still here and frustrating to work through.
The VRM temperature sensor seems to not exist on mine despite other M10Heros having them.
I'm giving 4 stars because of overall features and quality despite the complaints. Next time I buy a motherboard I will definitely be looking at other brands though as I believe when you pay premium prices for a motherboard you should be getting something that earns all 5 stars.
The wireless is flat out awesome. 178mbs on Comcast, with having a tech come out and straight wire the house to the modem. I have a setup of Motorola modem and router, AC2600.
It's pushing two Samsung 970 NVME ssd's with no issue. I have 32gb of Corsair Vengeance memory in it, with LED lighting support. I'm also running a Corsair H150i cpu cooler, not too many issues there, the software was an issue but they fixed that. It's all powered by a Corsair CX 50 Plus power supply
It's all sitting in a Thermaltake Core X9 case. Huge computer. I have many more components but I can't be bothered to deal with that now. These drives work great, end of story. The case keeps it all running at 38C max temps.
Top reviews from other countries
(I am receiving points in the ROG Elite Rewards loyalty program for my review.)
-Excelente overclocking (5ghz en mi 8700k sin problemas). Esto depende 90% del CPU.
-Moderado RGB; ni muy cargado, ni muy simple.
-Panel I/O integrado.
-Tarjeta de red inalámbrica y antena de conexión AC
-Bluetooth 4.1.
- It doesn't come in an anti-static bag, nor does the box come sealed. This really threw me off, as I thought I had received an already opened item. A google search revealed that this is normal. I understand that the anti-static bag isn't necessary, but I wish they would at least seal the box.
- Why so few SATA cables? It comes with a whole sheet of gaming stickers that I promptly threw out, but only a few SATA cables?
