hornworm storage

hornworm food

How They Ship

The Hornworms are young and approximately 1/2" when they are shipped out, so they will last longer for you. They will grow in transit, and will be larger when you receive them (especially in warm weather).

Please check to make sure your temperatures upon arrival will not be above 85F or below 20F as we are unable to do this for you.

How to Store

Store the pod upside down, with the food at the top. This way, the Hornworms will climb up to eat, and their waste will fall to the 'bottom' of the container for easy cleanup.

Make sure to place them on a wire rack or something similar, so that they receive proper ventilation.

Hornworms will grow the fastest when kept in the low 80s F, but can be kept as low as the mid 50s F to slow growth. Hornworms can also be kept in the fridge (at 45F) for 2 days, then removed for one day, to slow growth.

How to Feed

The Hornworms will have a healthy gutload food for them, so they will ready to be fed to your pets upon arrival.

You can also allow the worms to continue to grow.

This was the first time I ordered Hornworms for my old man Bearded Dragon that I have been having issues with his appetite. He hasn't been eating enough and is being extremely picky. His previous owner told me he loved them so after doing some of my own research and reading lots of reviews I decided to purchase from Josh's. The worms were sent via the US mail and I was nervous because I live in Florida. To my surprise and great appreciation they were hand delivered from a courier service from the post office! There were more than I ordered and pretty small however they had plenty of food and grew super fast. Thankfully they were also sent with a care sheet because I had no idea how to keep them. My boy liked them for the first couple days but decided he wasn't going to eat them. I kept trying and he would take one or two every couple days. I messaged Josh's and they were so helpful and caring. Eventually the worms ate all of their food and started dying or cacooning. The whole time someone at Josh's was there for me offering ideas and solutions. They went way beyond what I think most companies would and sent us 200 Superworms. My boy ate a few of them hidden under carrots today and I can't be more grateful because I was offering everything but nothing worked. I was really getting scared We would lose him before he would eat. We will definitely be using Josh's for now on and I have even shared it in my Bearded Dragon group. Hopefully I can now start getting him to eat and if I have to trick him again by mashing and mixing with veggies like suggested I believe he'll gain his weight back and live a little longer. I'm so glad I did my research and ended up going with a company that really does care and is knowledgeable

I was very impressed that I received these little critters in the mail with only one casualty. Even driving home from the pet store I have multiple feeders die, so I am very impressed that they came across multiple state in the middle of winter with only one dead! They are packed with a temporary heating packet. There were the listed amount of large worms as well as a couple bonus little guys that could grow. The only thing that was tough was that with shipping, the food and the worms’ excrement was mixed due to being turned this way and that. The container was also packed upside down, which did not help. Ultimately it did not make much difference since I was using the entire order at one time. Advice to the shopper, keep an eye on your Amazon tracking info because mine are often delivered to my mailbox without any notification and they may sit there in the cold/heat for an extended period of time. I will continue ordering feeders from this company because I have more selection, fewer dead upon arrival, great convenience, and are much cheaper than local options (which are not very local - over 45 min away).

These were great. They came in on time and were small when we got them. But it wasn't long before they were big and fat. My breaded dragon loved these. The first one he wasn't so sure about, but after that one he was eager to eat them. He would come running and jump up trying to eat it whenever he saw one in your hand. I have bought a number of feeders from Josh's Frogs and they have all been great. If I ever had a concern or problem, their customer service is second to none.

So if everything was so great, why did I give it only 4 stars? The main thing here is the food supply that comes in the cup. I didn't want to feed them all to him at once and tried to space them out. But even doing that I felt rushed in doing so, but had no choice as the food ran out pretty quickly as they grew. I know part of this is a cost thing for the seller, but I would have paid a little more for extra food in the container than feel rushed. He liked them so much it would have been nice to be able to spread them out a bit more.

So if you buy them for your bearded dragon, he will love you, or at least as long as you are holding the hornworm. Just be careful he doesn't get too overzealous and get your finger instead.

I have used Josh’s Frogs for hornworms for quite a while. Every shipment I have received only live hornworms. Except once when the mail carrier put them in my mailbox when it was over 80° and they cooked to death (usually they set them on my porch). I contacted customer service (mostly for advice, like do I contact the post office? Do I just request a larger “live animal” sticker? What do I do next time?) and they shipped me more! I cannot stress enough that this was NOT their fault but they shipped me more. The hornworms themselves are always healthy and grow HUGE really fast. My chameleon loves them. I highly recommend and will continue to purchase from here.
