Publisher's summary

From the author of the Wicked Bay series, comes an angsty YA/NA enemies-to-lovers romance. Cocky football players, school rivalry, and the girls who get in their way. Get ready...the Raiders are coming!

Hailee Raine only has to survive one more year. One year of life in her football obsessed town. One year of nauseating school spirit. Just one more year of her cruel step-brother Jason; and his cocky, arrogant, football-playing friends.

She hates them. Especially, Cameron Chase, the guy she thought was different.

Cameron Chase has the world at his feet. He has it all; good looks, talent, and the charm to go with it. He has colleges lined up at the door, all wanting a piece of Rixon Raiders star wide receiver. Until something threatens everything he's ever worked for, and only one person can quiet the war raging inside him. But he's supposed to hate her; his best friend's sister.

She's off-limits. Untouchable. She's trouble with a capital T.

Then Hailee finds herself in the middle of a football prank gone wrong...and suddenly hating each other never felt so good.

The Trouble with You is the first book in The Rixon Raiders series. All books in this series can be listened to as stand-alones!

Bully romance

In the grand tradition of enemies to lovers but with high school antics. Hailee is tough as nails and I truly don’t think I would have survived the bullying she endured. Her stepbrother Jason and his group of football gods are tiny terrorists. It’s really so good in that NA bully way. I enjoyed everything about it but would highly recommend not letting children under the age of 18 read this book. Cameron has a ton of potential to be a great BBF.

The narrators are kicka$$ and really capture all the angst and drama you love in NA.

There is a certain event towards the end of the book that really threw me. The way it was handled left me completely aghast. It took me more than a week to gets my thoughts together on this. If this were marketed for adults I wouldn’t bat an eye but I don’t like to normalize certain destructive behaviors against children. I had the same issue with the end of After and the second book in the Abbi Glines Field Party Series.

Overall it’s a really solid story and I would continue in the series.

Angsty YA/NA Bully Romance

Overall 3.5 stars
Performance 4.5 stars
Story 3 stars

The Trouble with You is a mixture of many tropes/genres - brother's best friend, bully, enemies to loves, and sports. It was an entertaining YA/NA listen, but there were a few times I was just left shaking my head. These characters didn't act like they were seniors in High School, and I feel like it would have been better if they had been in college. The bullying and "pranks" that take place in this one had practically zero repercussions, and I often wondered where the adults/parents were. One incident in particular was especially vile and degrading and I'm not sure why this assault was not taken to the authorities. The "boys will be boys" mentality was hard to get past and had me rolling my eyes throughout. That said, it still had me intrigued enough to want to find out what was going to happen with our characters. The epilogue set up the next book and I'm curious to find out more about Jason & Felicity.

The narration was great and I enjoyed both Wen Ross and Sarah Puckett's performances. They voice male and female characters well and I didn't have trouble differentiating between characters. Wen Ross has a deep and sexy voice, but I did feel that it was a bit too deep/mature for 18 year old Cameron. Overall, this was an angsty and entertaining listen.

Bully romance 😍

I absolutely loved this enemies to lovers bully romance!

Hailee Raine detests Cameron Chase with every fibre of her being and most of all what catches her off guard is when she begins falling for the biggest player!!

This was an amazing first in the series.

The narrators performed an amazing audio delivery and narration.

just don’t

There is simply no excuse for abuse. Every character in this book is egregiously irresponsible and immature about it, including all parental figures. Author spoiler, having a relationship requires development - in real life and in literature.
Also, narrative includes a child and neither of these two “artists” bothered to develop any vocalizations acceptably close to it.

A YA Bully Romance

This is a YA Bully romance. I have mixed feelings about this one I Liked The overall story is good but the bullying is hard to take at times. I know that is some ways that boys show that they like girls but some of these pranks are down right mean. I like the way it ends up though. The narration was spectacular I just love Sarah Puckett I am not familiar with Wen Ross but he was great too

Young Adult with mature situations!

My high school time is long in the past yet I still enjoy books with characters that young. Maybe it's because I wish I could go back in time and relive some of those years. They were pretty awesome in hindsight. Anyhoo...

Bully books are all the rage at the moment and I have ambivalent feelings about those because, honestly, bullying shouldn't be romanticized. But nosy person that I am I just wanted to know why people are so taken with them. I can see it. I totally can. The key is how and if the author makes the hero redeemable. LA Cotton did a decent job with Cameron and the dual point of view definitely helped. He did some horrible things. Things, I would never forgive under normal circumstances. For too long he was Jason's lapdog and didn't stand up to him. But in the end he was so darned endearing when he started fighting for Hailee's affection.

Hailee was the light of this story. She was smart mouthed, snarky and strong and didn't take the awful stuff those jerks dished out lying down without retaliating. She had her own way of getting back at them and I really loved her for not falling over herself when Cameron started to come around and kept him at arm's length. Not for long though because the guy had charms.

Now Jason, Hailee's stepbrother, was a douchebag extraordinaire. Focused on football, arrogant as they come, full of himself and so incredibly rude, offensive and hurtful - It'll be interesting to see if and how this author will redeem him.

Wen Ross is always a joy to listen to. I've never listened to Sarah Puckett before - her narration style is one of those I don't enjoy very much. She has that strange way of dragging out the last syllable of the last word in a sentence, however, that aside her performance was quite good.

This is my first LA Cotton book and this one was really engaging - I just couldn't stop listening. I'm still not sure if I'm happy about the whole bullying fad. However, with this being quite steamy it isn't intended for a young audience. So now I'm looking forward to THE GAME YOU PLAY!

Slow build but worth the time

I experienced this story using Audible and will admit it wasn’t what I expected. It did take me a little time to connect with the characters, I struggled with who to like, who not to like.. but as it progressed something clicked and I was hooked until the end.

hot hot hot

Trouble with you is the first installment of the Rixon Raiders Series, and I cannot wait for book two. This is the story of a group of teens who are intertwined together, in some way or another. I loved all the characters, that were introduced. This is the story of Hailee, and her step-brother’s best friend Cameron. They have been at odds for six years, until things started taking a turn for the worst. I loved the storyline. Some of the crucial events that happens you can’t predict, and I love that. Hailee is strong ,sarcastic as hell, and I loved every minute of it. Cameron was just stuck in a hard place, and boy, do you feel for him. Also you’ll meet Flick, Hailee best friend, Ash and Jase, Cameron’s best friends, and as supporting characters in this story, they couldn’t have been written any better. I must say though Ash, has won my heart and becoming my favorite quickly. I can’t wait for the next book, because I have so many questions. This book has me recommendation 100%

Amazing!

Cameron and Hailee stole my heart in more ways than I could have imagined! This book was amazing. I'm not typically one to listen to high school/bully romances, but this book had me so intrigued by the blurb that I had to give it a shot! Needless to say, I was not disappointed! This story kept me hooked from the beginning! I also have to say the narration on this audiobook was superb. The narrators really captured me, making me feel like I was in the story! 🎧 Audiobook Obsession 🎧
