One catch. You have to be pretty close to get these results. This means it really does not work all that well in a shotgun setting. You prob need something more like a Rode NTG3, Sennheiser 416/MK50, Sanken CS-1/3, or similar to get that distance dialed in.

Now, after about a year of use, this mic continues to be a favorite. I did have one issue today where the mic was close to an iPhone in use (call was on hold and on speaker) and there was a crazy amount of RF interference. Tried a different cable. Not the cable. Tried other mics, Senheisser ME 62,64,66, and no RF (well, a teensy bit with the 66 but mic was almost touching phone). I needed to the Audix mic at least 3 feet away to reduce the RF down to a tolerable level. The angle of the mic to the phone also affected the noise. Now phone is off and it's back to it's quiet, clean, transparent self. Memo to self: if I do a shot with a phone call, don't use the Audix.
I shoot and edit corporate videos and education products - I'm not an expert sound guy, but I've been trying out a lot of different mics recently for voice overs and interviews. The Rode NTG-3 and Rode Lavalier were fairly easy decisions for me - great reviews and good performance for the dollar. Choosing a SC/HC mic for indoor voice was harder. Rode has some good options, and I liked their other mics. Then there's the Oktava that has a strong following. And, of course, the Schoeps. If I were a full-time sound guy, I'd go with the Schoeps - pretty much the undisputed industry leader for indoor dialog. But, I'm a multi-media, multi-purpose content producer, so I wanted high value at a mid level price.
There's not a lot of info about the Audix SCX1, but I came across Clinton Harn's audio series on Zacuto's web site where he mentioned using the SCX1 in his intro video on Vimeo. The quality of his voice on those videos is great. There are a couple of other reviews on YouTube. I was sold.
Used in a hotel conference room last week to record a series of interviews, I could immediately hear the difference between this mic and the standard Rode Lav I typically employ. The voices are richer and clearer. One of my interviewees had a wonderful rich and resonant voice that I truly enjoyed listening to during the interview. I've never given much thought to my subjects' voices beyond making sure the audio was clean/clear at the right volume, not peaking etc. That has changed with the SCX1.
