Rules of Engagement Kindle Edition
This is a love story, one that comes with rules, expectations, and dark shadows. One where the man who challenges me the most is cloaked in deception. I had no choice but to accept the terms, nowhere to run once the clock started ticking.
Donovan Stone was a man few people dared to cross.
He was dark.
He was dominating.
He was so silent that you had to watch him closely to begin to know what he was thinking.
He was my boss, and the man I should have run from the minute I walked into his corporate office.
Like any bad decision, it took time for me to see the truth about the game I’d entered, for me to understand that it wasn’t the stalker in the shadows I should fear, but the man who pulled the strings.
I had no choice.
At least, that’s the lie I told myself to forgive my foolish actions.
And while running as fast as I could through twisted mazes and deceitful games, I understood that the Rules of Engagement were now my life.

I really enjoyed how Mia's character grew a backbone and let go of her fears and in doing so inspired Donavan.

Mia, who is timid and always afraid loses her job and is in a desperate situation, so she does something desperate. In the interim she received a job offer from Donovan.
The twist and turns this story takes, kept me enthralled from page one. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the next page had me questioning what I though.
This is a great thriller from one of go to authors.
I will be honest - this is my first Lily White novel and had no idea what to expect. I love a dark romance where both the hero and heroine are anything but perfect. Ms White does a wonderful job writing pained characters and making their journey through their pain to the other side one that has a huge pay off.
Mia is just trying to survive day to day - she just lost her job and has nothing in the bank so she will just about take anything she can get. Even if that means signing up for a game that takes her out of her comfort zone - way out of her comfort zone. After being verbal abused as a child Mia is use to hiding in the shadows and not thinking she will amount to much, then she is offered a job working for Donovan Stone the CEO of a tech company that is worth millions and someone who hasn't spoken a word in 3 years. So with both the game and her new job Mia is forced to change who she has always believed she is and become who she is destined to be.
Donovan Stone has lost everything in his life, his fiance and his freedom. Now he works in silence believing silence will protect himself and those around him. When Mia enters his life she shows him how to live again and that scares him.
What I love is that this story is complicated with a lot going on but as the reader I never felt lost or confused. Told 90% from Mia's POV we get to see how she handles the different situations that are thrown at her and I found my self really starting to root for her and that is a testament to Ms White's writing. The relationship she forges with Donovan is organic and we get to see them both grow through her eyes. I dont want to give much away but know when you dive into this you will be taken on a true love story.
Dark Reality and its rules. Mia knew them but still she kept going she wanted out. THERE IS NO OUT ..Rule #1 says so duh
Donovan Stone computer genius who hasnt spoken in 3yrs. Yep 3yrs of silence. He also has rules and tardiness is a big one. Apparently hes been through alot of P.A so when Mia came along. He loved how she was so scared and he pushed and pushed till she would stick up for herself. Donovan is such an A hole but he doesnt care that hes cruel or what people think money allows that.
Mia who hates to be touched is a scared little mouse finds it hard to stay timid with Donovan between him and the game shes had enough of the rules and being told what to do. Finally shes out of her shell and sticks up for herself.
You know there is chemistry between the two and I dont get why Jackson acted like he was such demon and told Mia to stay away from him that she would be his downfall and the companies. I get why Trevor did it. I knew who was behind it. I just thought the whole story was lacking really.
The woman was frightened of the world. She was frightened of life and terrified of failure. I could use those facts to my advantage , but in the end I only wanted her frightened of one thing... Me.
"That man might as well be Fort Knox for the thickness of the walls he has built around him. He has more secrets than the damn CIA, and those secrets are destroying him, Jackson. Don’t you see that?”

The twisted faith of the desperate Mia’s decision to play a game made me want to shake her and scream don’t do it. Mia is a woman with complicated past that jaded her and made her retreat into her own shell. How wise, twisted faith is that she found herself working for the Donovan Stone, the man who will break every wall she enacted to keep herself safe. The infuriating male who has no warmth but critique and resentment towards everything she does. And yet their intense work relationship was precisely what mousy however brilliant woman needed. He knew how to press every button until she broke free and discovered what kind of woman is underneath the skin she wore all her life and avoided to have contact. But the question always lingered who is stalking a young woman who has no other choice but works for Donovan and wishes that the warped online game she never started out of despair?
Mia needs money and finds herself involved in a dangerous game with no way out. Her new boss is Donavan and at first he's a bully to timid Mia, but before long she's fighting back.
I would recommend.
