4.5 Stars! High Risk is the second installment of Lauren and Gabes story. What I love about this story is it's so different from what I'm used to reading from Billionaire love stories. You've got the strong, possessive and slightly controlling alpha male Billionaire Gabe. As hot as he is, he's not what makes this so different. The main heroine, Lauren, and the story itself is what's unique. Lauren is an extremely smart scientist. Before Gabe she was basically a recluse. She spent every spare moment in her lab. She's not your typical heroine. She's socially awkward and very unsure of herself. I absolutely love how Gabe opens her up and helps her be the confidant woman she should be.

Lauren has made a break through with her invention that will revolutionize the healthcare industry. This is where the story gets interesting. Lauren's invention will make her a Billionaire in her own right and that has drawn some unsavory attention. People want their hands on her invention and they will do anything to get it. Gabe is doing all he can to keep Lauren safe but she isn't making it easy for him. This story is full of action and intrigue and you definately will not be bored with this story. There is going to be a book three but the author does not end book two on a huge cliffhanger.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH INKSLINGER PR. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

This book is a direct continuation from the first book in the series, told from dual points of view, something that I really do not enjoy. Despite that, the story still didn't improve from the previous book in the series. There was very little growth on any of the characters, though relationships did progress/get exposed. There was more progress on the suspense front, but again, the story ended on a bit of a cliffhanger once again, which I didn't care for. Thankfully, it was a fast paced read, and kept me engaged throughout. I have to say, I'm glad I'm reading all three stories together, as having to wait for them to release would have resulted in loss of details about the plot. Hopefully, things will improve with the final book in the series!

I'm going to start by saying that I haven't read the first book in the Silicon Valley Billionaires series (Lauren), to be brutally honest I haven't read anything by Leigh James before. I wish I had read Lauren before Gabe, simply because the story in Gabe is a direct consequence of the story in Lauren. It can be read as a standalone, but I found that I felt a little awkward at first - as though I should know the characters a lot better. That is my fault primarily, however the tone of this book gives it a feel as though you are part of the inner circle - so, if you haven't read Lauren, feel prepared to feel a little out of sync at times. In my opinion this doesn't reflect poorly on Leigh James, quite frankly I found that she referenced the past clearly so that you got the gist of how the events in Gabe have come about.

I thought that the plot was fast paced and exciting, however there were a few things that I feel came about unrealistically. Particularly with some of the logistics and how certain events played out. It was all too neat, the fall out and ramifications were minimal in situations that would have a broader and infinitely dire consequences. The mess was too contained for it to be realistic and to make an impact. Saying that I really liked the plot, were it better executed toward the climax, I would've said that it was brilliant. In my opinion it feels a little rushed toward the end. The story has so so much potential that it's actually a bummer that the execution wasn't bang on the money.

I liked the main characters - Gabe and Lauren. Although, I felt that had I read the first book in the series, I would have felt closer to them. As I hadn't it took me a while to really be able to empathise with them. Li Na Zhao I found was a good character, but needed a little more wickedness in order to be a really convincing nefarious villain. There were times that she felt inconsequential, her threats at some points were a bit meh. In all honesty, this book could've done with a smaller cast of characters. There were just too many secondary characters, and I'm still unsure whether Hannah is meant to be a secondary character or not... Given the title, I thought that this story would centre around Gabe, but it really didn't - had his brothers not been introduced in this book I wouldn't have really learned a lot about him. Quite frankly to me the story centred around Lauren, her company and her sister and so I'm confused as to where Gabe really fits, with the exception of their relationship and the snippets from his POV. OK, so he has a big hands on involvement in the plot, but the story isn't about his character.

I didn't dislike this book, but in my opinion it has so much more potential. I would really love to see more of Gabe. He has quite a strong sex appeal, and there are some VERY mild elements of BDSM. Mainly some spanking and mild bondage. The sex was erotic and intimate, it also fit into the story very well - it wasn't sex for the sake of sex. That I loved. I actually think that you saw a lot more of Gabe as a character in those scenes and I found that you got a real glimpse into his psyche and of him. All in all, I did enjoy the story and had the finer details been tweaked and sharpened it would be verging on outstanding. However as it is, it is just good. Also, this is NOT a standalone in my opinion- or at least it shouldn't be.

This was not boring, I can tell you that much! This was my first Leigh James book, and I have to say, I like her style. There are two reasons for this: 1) she pulls you right in. There is no dragging on of the action/getting to the point and 2) her writing style has a "could translate to screen well" flow.

I don't know if I would necessarily call this a standalone. From the very beginning it starts off like the next chapter from the first book, Lauren. This is not really a problem since they explain the backstory pretty well right away so it's not hard to keep up. But you do still feel like maybe you should have read the first one to truly appreciate this current read. That being said, I do like that this was written in a dual POV form, whereas I've heard the 1st book is just from Lauren's POV.
Being a tech fan, I do enjoy the background of the main characters with the biotech work. It's very interesting from that aspect as well as being kept in suspense with the drama and kidnapping scenario. It's a nice theme change of pace from a lot of my other reads. I will say though, it's full of drama. Like, crazy Grey's Anatomy type drama. So if you're not in this for pure entertainment and looking for realism, this might not be your jam. But I say give it a go even if you normally wouldn't.

All in all I enjoyed this book. I think I'll go back and get the first book and then do this one again.

Wow! What a steamy ride! This was anything but a boring book and I greatly appreciated that. It made me wish I didn’t have to work, sleep, or interact with other people so I could just sit and read this beauty. This was my first Leigh James book and I can assure you that it won’t be my last. I loved the writing style, the characters, everything. Her words pulled me in from the beginning and never let me go until the last page.

Now while this is labeled “book #2” in the series, this could be read as a standalone. I had not read the first book and was able to follow with no problems. Everything was explained well enough that I felt like I was reading a brand new book. This story is told in dual POVs and I believe that really helped this move along as well as it did. I still feel the characters were well developed and they grew as the story moved along. That’s always nice and refreshing in any story.

I really don’t want to give too much away but know this was all I wanted and more. I will give the small disclaimer that if you are looking for more realism in your story, this may not be the one for you. This was packed full of excitement, suspense, and enough computer talk to make you feel like an expert when you’re done.

Please, add this to your TBR and give it a try. The delicious scenes and hot moments will not disappoint.

GABE is the continuation of Leigh James' first book in this series LAUREN. I highly suggest you read LAUREN before diving into GABE because it will help you to understand the circumstances that have led to the goings on at the beginning of this book.

There is certainly no shortage of suspense and action in this book. It seems like every time Gabe and Lauren turn around, something else is happening and things are becoming more dire with the situation with Li Na Zhao. In a race against the clock to try to get Lauren's sister back from Li Na, who has kidnapped her, she is also trying to figure out how to hold on to the company that has been her life for the last six years. The last thing she wants is to sell it to this Chinese mogul.

Gabe calls in the big guns, literally, when he calls in his brothers who own a security firm and their team who come from the East Coast to try to help out. Will they be able to get Hannah back? Will they be able to protect both Lauren and her company? Or will Gabe lose everything that is important to him?

This book moved much quicker for me than LAUREN did. I was already invested in the characters, so I definitely wanted to know how all of it ended up. I have a feeling the story isn't quite over yet though, as there is another book in the series HANNAH. I'm definitely going to have to check it out to see where this group ends up!

They’re smart, sexy, fun, and billionaires.
Love that the female lead, Lauren, is a young, successful, brilliant scientist who runs her own biotech company. Gabe is perfect as her hero; he’s also a brilliant billionaire and CEO of his own technology company. He’s strong, stubborn, sexy, and protective. Gabe’s brothers play a big part in this story as well as Lauren’s feisty sister, who has her own book (Hannah-out now) which I can’t wait to read. Gabe’s and Lauren’s steamy, sexy romance is perfectly blended into this suspenseful novel. Gabe is a fast paced, exciting and suspenseful. It’s a story of corporate espionage, power and control, romance and love. It is told in dual POV which I really liked. I recommend reading the series in order for background history as Gabe picks up immediately from book one Lauren and you’ll get a better feel for the characters.

Leigh James is a new author for me and I was fortunate to receive a complimentary copy of this book in a giveaway. This in no way influenced my honest opinion, which follows.

This story was suspenseful from the get-go. It is set against the biomedical industry in Silicon Valley, which as it turns out is quite cutthroat. Add on the sexy times between Gabe and Lauren and you have one good read that I had a hard time putting down. And boy was this couple explosive - they almost melted my Kindle! I haven't yet read Lauren, the first book in the series, but you can read this as a standalone, but realize that you miss out on how Lauren and Gabe came to be a couple and how the evil Chinese adversary, Li Na Zhao came into the picture. It looks like there will be a Book 3 and the evil Li Na Zhao will hopefully get what she deserves!

Leigh James knows how to keep a reader on the edge of their seat. A healthy dose of suspense with some twisted espionage makes for a good read. Gabe is a total alpha, all intent on keep his woman safe. Lauren is smart, strong willed and hard headed.
Ms. James starts read off in the thick of it and keeps it running until the end. Gabe and Lauren are both strong in their convection, fighting for what they believe and those they love. The two shared some very steamy moments and some nice banter.
Gabe is a continuation story for Lauren and Gabe. The book can be read as a stand alone. However I feel as I would have benefited from the story more reading the first. Ms. James kept this reader thoroughly entertained for beginning to end.

A continuation of the story of Gabe and Lauren from "Lauren", this story just wasn't for me. I get it: They're billionaires. They're CEOs. They're billionaire CEOs. I feel like that kept getting drilled into my head (similar to the first book). Also, I'm usually willing to suspend some level of my disbelief when reading and I enjoy suspense, but too much of this story just seemed unbelievable to me. There was definitely a Mary Sue quality to Lauren, some of the drama with the villain seemed overdone and the solutions seemed to wrap up a little too neatly after everything having been drawn out for what seemed like forever. I did like that this was written from both Lauren and Gabe's POV (while Lauren was written only from Lauren's). I felt that the dual POV was helpful as we had some more insight into both of the main character's thoughts.

4 out of 5 stars!
This book was very fast paced I thought. From start to finish you were thinking oh man I really hope they get Lauren's sister back.
She gets kipnapped, and everything changes. Li Na Zhao wants Lauren's company and her. So in exchange Li Na Zhao is willing to give back Lauren's sister for all that.
Gabe who doesn't want to make any deals and lose Lauren, he calls his brothers and their security team to help find Lauren's sister.
Meanwhile Lauren is willing to make that deal and hand over herself and her company for her sister's safety and return.

It's race against time in finding out where Hannah is being held, and making sure Lauren doesn't make any deals. This book is a thrill, and has some love scene's. Pick this book up.

Fast paced, hot, and fun. This book is everything that you would want for a fun weekend read. Did I mention it was hot?

The best part is that I didn’t need to read the first book in the series, because the author did a great job of flashing back to the previous book to fill in the blanks. Li Na Zhao is a kickass villain. Seriously, I keep thinking of Lucy Liu’s character in Kill Bill. Amazing!

Gabe and Lauren are a highly passionate couple that fight as hard as they make love with one another. Totally a believable power couple that I rooted for the whole time. Also, Lauren’s little sister Hannah was hilarious and strong. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series that focuses on her.

Read this series, people!

Heads’ up: You really want to read book one, Lauren, before reading this.

Gabe is the exciting continuation of Gabe and Lauren’s story. With Lauren’s danger seemingly past, the book starts off with a bang when once again these characters are facing danger and playing an even more dangerous game.

Lauren will do anything to get her sister back from Li Na, who has kidnapped Hannah as a ploy to get her hands on Lauren’s technology. Lauren is willing to trade herself to Li Na in exchange for her sister’s freedom, but Gabe is not about to let that happen.

Danger and intrigue abound in this sexy, romantic suspense from Leigh James.

First off, read Lauren first. I didn't and wish I had. But it didn't ruin Gabe's story for me either. It just provides you more history and character background.

Gabe is the continuing story of the Silicon Valley Billionaires. We met Lauren first and Gabe was taken with her and now Lauren's sister Hannah was kidnapped and held for ransom for Lauren's help.

This reminded me of a TV drama or something with the hot times, espionage, spying and secret-keeping. I just loved it! And I can't wait for Hannah's story to come out! Although I will definitely need a re-read of Lauren & Gabe's stories before I dive in.

Let me start by saying, if you haven't read book 1, Lauren, then do so before going any further! Done that? Good, now we can begin. Until this series I had not read any of Leigh James books and I have to say, it was worth the wait. After Lauren's sister, Hannah, is kidnapped, Lauren has to bow to the demands of LiNa, a Chinese Tech business owner who wants Lauren's patents and her brilliant mind. Gabe, the hot boyfriend, is determined that LiNa will get neither. To this end, Gabe calls his brothers in the security business to formulate a plan to keep both Gabe and Lauren save and to free Hannah. Loved this book, and looking forward to Hannah next.

Very disappointed, expected to start and continue through the night waiting to see what was going to happen next. Characters were one dimensional did not care how they would get through the boring storyline. I kept putting the book down, reading personal emails, searching the web, anything not to have to continue with the read. Thought possibly it was me, so I went back to re-read and again nothing.
Author Leigh James should have considered writing the book as a novella.

This book starts off with action and keeps going from there. Apparently this follows closely behind the first book in the series, Lauren, which I didn't read. I was a bit confused at first, but caught on quickly.

I liked the pace of this and the fact that it was centered around biotech stuff rather than the usual drug stuff most romantic suspense books center on.

Super exciting and emotional

The story of Gabe and Lauren continues with this book and will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's filled with exciting moments as Gabe and his security team headed by his brothers try and save Lauren's sister and her company from the clutches of the evil Li Na. Gabe and Lauren are also faced with keeping their new relationship alive and working. I loved both book and two and you will as well. Can't wait for book three!

Wowza!

Part 2 in the Silicon Valley Billionaires series delivers a fast paced erotic thriller with super-hot alpha heroes and equally matched heroines. Lauren is fighting to get her sister back from an amoral competitor without losing Gabe or her biotech company. Couldn't put this book down. Really! And the climactic scene was over the top. Not "that" kind of climax, but the bedroom scenes might have melted the wallpaper. Keep up the great writing.

Leigh James is over the top with this book. Awesome!!

This is another book you won't be able to put down. There is so much intrigue, sex and more Alpha men than before.
Gabe and Lauren are so meant for each other and you will be holding your breath waiting to see what happens next.
You have to read Lauren's book first to get the full meaning of this one.
I highly recommend this book.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 9, 2017

His Woman. His Family. His Company.
When the going gets tough, the tough get Alpha.

Silicon Valley billionaire CEO Gabriel Betts has finally found the happiness he’s been searching for—in gorgeous, brilliant fellow billionaire Lauren Taylor, the so-called reigning queen of the biotech industry. But when Chinese healthcare mogul Li Na Zhao kidnaps Lauren’s sister in a high-stakes game of corporate espionage, the world they’ve worked so hard to protect comes crashing down. Li Na agrees to trade Hannah for Lauren’s Paragon Laboratories and her help—onsite and in person. In an attempt to keep Lauren safe, Gabe calls in his security-industry professional brothers to help get Hannah back. But when the rescue effort stumbles, Gabe must pick up the pieces to protect the woman he loves…before she makes the ultimate sacrifice.

••••••

REVIEW: 3.5 stars--GABE is the second installment in Leigh James’ contemporary, adult SILICON VALLEY BILLIONAIRE erotic, romantic suspense series. GABE is the continuing story of Silicon Valley billionaire CEO Gabriel Betts, and biotech CEO of Paragon Laboratories Lauren Taylor. GABE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for background, history and cohesion as the events of GABE pick up immediately upon, and are directly affected by the events of book one LAUREN.

Told from dual first person points of view (Gabe and Lauren) GABE follows the search and rescue of Hannah Taylor. Lauren’s biggest competitor in the biotech industry wants what Lauren has-Paragon Laboratories-and to ensure her take over Li Na Zhao resorts to kidnapping Lauren’s younger sister forcing our heroine to hand over Paragon in exchange for her sister’s life. What ensues is the back and forth ‘negotiations’ and set up as Gabe Betts and his brothers’ security firm search for the people responsible for the kidnapping of Hannah Taylor.

GABE focuses on corporate espionage, betrayal and revenge; power and control; romance and love. Throughout the story Gabe and Lauren’s relationship continues to flourish in spite of our heroine’s need to place herself in danger to save the life of her younger sister. For a billionaire genius, Lauren is very immature when it comes to the reality of what is going on. I struggled with her emotional behavior, outbursts and personality quarks on too many occasions.

The relationship between Gabe and Lauren has already been established (LAUREN #1) but Gabe is hoping to make it permanent in the future-if only the woman he loved would stop trying to make a martyr of herself. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense. There is some light BDSM play including spanking.

We are introduced to Gabe’s brothers Levi and Asher; Hannah’s bodyguard and boyfriend Wesley Eden; as well as Lauren’s bodyguard Timmy, and her attorney Bethany O’Donnell. There are a number of additional secondary and supporting characters including several members of the Board of Directors of Paragon Laboratories, as well as medical and police force personnel. Wesley and Hannah’s story line is next in HANNAH.

GABE is a fast paced, exciting and suspense filled story line but I had to question some of the logistics and events that transpired. I am not sure the events would have played out quite so cleanly as presented, or without more government, international and legal interference and ramifications. With Li Na Zhao still in the wind, the Chinese corporate Nationalist will continue to cause trouble for the billionaires of Silicon Valley. The premise is entertaining; the characters are colorful and dynamic; the romance is seductive and provocative.

I was soo happy to get Gabe's POV and to learn how bad ass he is. In the previous book, it was suggested he was a bit of a bad boy but BA-BY he is totally HOT.

Lauren makes a lot of dumb choices in this one. I really can't with her. I love the suspense and white collar crime that is in this storyline. It did not disappoint.

I really wanted to love this book, but I still felt that it had the same issues as book 1. The characters are great, and the suspense is interesting. But goodness gracious, the CONSTANT lying drove me insane. I thought maybe it would not have been as prevalent as it was in book 1, but I think there was even more. Yes, Lauren is concerned for both Gabe and her sister, but obviously handing yourself over to the psycho is never the right move. For a character who is supposed to be a genius, she seemed pretty dense to me at times. She had Gabe seemed to have the same conversation about 12 times--she promises him that she won't sacrifice herself....even though she plans on doing that all along.

I also don't really understand why the author needs to set Hannah up with every male bodyguard. Really? That just seemed unnecessary to me.

I 'm so in love with this series . With High Risk , Leigh James wrote another exciting , suspenseful , addictive , arousing , sensual and steamy story .
High Risk picks up with my favorite couple , Lauren & Gabe, there where it left off in the previous one Even when fighting or making love, their chemistry is hot with dynamic quick-witted dialogues .The storyline will hold your attention and take you on a wild ride of emotions and suspence .
I 'm so looking forward to reading her third book High Yield and I'm sure it will be just as good and fabulous as this one. It's highly recommended ! Especially now Ms James introduced us to Gabe's two other HOT brothers Levi and Ash ......(sigh)
