The board isn't overly fancy, but the very subtle orange glow contrasts nicely with all the blue fans in my spaceship of a case. I do wish there were optical audio for my nice converter out like there was on that ASRock, but alas, there are just basic speaker out, line in, and mic in. 4 RAM slots means I can upgrade my 2 4gb sticks to 4x4gb total when RAM prices dip a little bit lower, whenever that is. For now, this is a great basic board for those of you who want an unlocked chip, but don't quite need to do triple SLI and crazy RGB to go full gamer (you never go full gamer). If that's you, this board will probably suit you just fine.
It's flaws are simple, it could use a better manual describing where things are. For instance, it says that there are two PCIe ports, but I can only find one... The ram slots are set up so that my corsair vengeance ram faces the motherboard, so you can't see its pretty logo - I'm not sure if this will affect all ram but it's a tad annoying. And lastly, it could come with some screws.
Even with those flaws this deserves 5 stars. The durability is hard to exaggerated, I accidentally dropped pliers from 6 inches above it and it survived without an issue. And the bios is great!
intel i3 8350k (LGA1151, 8th gen processor)
gtx 1060 superclocked single fan (no clearance issues at all)
2x G.Skill tridentz ram
corsair hs70 liquid cooler (bolts right up with no issues)
550w power supply
my only complaint is this has only 4 connectors for fans (1x cpu fan 3x sys fans) which should be enough for most people but required me to order fan connector splitters in order to run all the fans I have with liquid cooler and on case. Other than that motherboard seems pretty solidly built and was really easy to set up and get working.
Bios was easy to work with contrary to some commentary about how Gigabyte tends to be more obscure. It was easier than working with MSI in my opinion and it was stable immediately even without the BIOS updates. (However BIOS update was needed to run my RAM at 3866 Team Silver on Newegg for 220 per 16 GB now, highway robbery but what are you gonna do when you want a new system? I set it to "relaxed" timings and it automatically adjusted the RAM to it's stock timings and I was off to the races)
Cons: The two bottom fan headers near the main board connectors are DoA. I wanted to use them to get on board readings of Fan performance and eliminate plugging in a Molex adapter. I went the Molex route. Not enough of a reason to send it back. My painstaking routing of wires and Closed Loop Water block installation is enough reason to leave it be.
