Publisher's summary

The most brazen terrorist attack in history. A country bent on revenge. A love affair cut short. A heart that never truly heals.

I knew on the day of the attack that our lives were changed forever. What I didn’t know then was that I’d never see John again after he deployed. One day he was living with me, sleeping next to me, making plans with me. The next day he was gone.

That was five years ago. The world has moved on from that awful day, but I’m stuck in my own personal hell, waiting for a man who may be dead for all I know. At my sister’s wedding, I meet Eric, the brother of the groom, and my heart comes alive once again.

The world is riveted by the capture of the terrorist mastermind, brought down by US Special Forces in a daring raid. Now I am trapped between hoping I’ll hear from John and fearing what’ll become of my new life with Eric if I do.

From New York Times best-selling author, Five Years Gone is an epic story of love, honor, duty, unbearable choices and impossible dilemmas.

Five Years Gone

I am left wanting; I really quite enjoyed the not knowing. Rooting for both, but mostly for Ava and everything she was put through. I always say I am not a fan of drama and this was more angst and limbo than drama.

I loved the back and forth, I even enjoyed the different POV’s I couldn’t stop listening I wanted no NEEDED to know what was going to happen.

I am left with an unsettling feeling of hope, loss, and understanding. I love that Marie made me feel so much.

The narration is FANTASTIC, I did get overloaded on Andi for a while and she is a great narrator don’t get me wrong but it was starting to be where all the books she narrated were blending. So I am glad I took an Andi break and I feel like I forgot what a great narrator she is and so is Joe oh lord that man’s voice. I swear.

5 WONDERFULLY AMAZING STARS!

This story has all the feels. There's love, there's loss, there's heartbreak, there's joy, happiness, betrayal, healing, emotional blackmail, acknowledging your responsibilities towards others, and I could go on, and on, and on. I just couldn't stop listening until I got to the end. There was a point that I didn't think I was going to be happy with the ending no matter what choices were made, but I was pleasantly surprised to have been wrong. I did like the way everything was handled at the end. Lovely epilogue. This will be a repeat listen for me.

ALL-CONSUMING, UNSTOPPABLE & TRAGICALLY BEAUTIFUL

What an epic haunting love story this was.. Marie Force has written a very moving tale of love, honor, letting go, moving on, sacrifice and love (yes I said it twice). Ava had two blissful years deeply in love with Navy Seal John unaware that one day his deployment would take him away for years. It would leave unanswered questions as to what happened to him, it would leave Ava in limbo stopping her from moving on, it would shatter her dreams, it would break her heart and it would make her question whether she really knew him at all. Ava waited years but knew at the five year mark it was finally time to move on with her life.. and that’s when she meets easygoing Eric at a wedding. He’d also had his heart broken, had so much in common with Ava and together they slowly healed each other’s hearts.. but then John comes home from his mission.. critically injured, apologetic, a hero and still very much in love with Ava.

Worth a credit? Oh boy oh boy yes.. this touching emotional story had so many weighty feels.. my heart broke, mended, shredded and soared as the multiple (but primarily Ava’s) POV poignant plotline held me captive until the very last word. There’s a bitter-sweet ending and a second book for the man who had to walk away from Ava.. but PLEASE don’t look at the blurb because it’ll tell you exactly who that was and that’ll totally spoil this book’s climactic dramatic build. Andi and Joe brought this tragically beautiful story to life and together they created an unstoppable 5 star listen.

It’s Sophie’s Choice!

She finally moves on and he comes back. How can she possibly choose between a war hero she pined over for 5 years and the wonderful man who put the pieces back together when she finally decided to move on. I didn’t want to finish the book because I knew that, no matter what, someone was going to leave with a totally shattered heart.

Unexpected Turns, but oh so Good

This book had me all twisted in places. It evoked a myriad of emotions that I couldn't name right now if I wanted. But it was such an amazing story that tugged on my heart strings in one moment while making me smile in the next. This was my first Marie Force book, but won't be my last.

Outstanding!!!

Marie Force has done it with a stand alone novel that is full of all the writing ability this lady has to make a story come to life. The performers are outstanding and so glad she waited for them to do this one for her. All the emotion of the story was brought to life through their voices!

Author needs to seek an editor and then listen.

It was clear to me that this book was self published. I really liked the characters and the narrators which is why I did not give up on this book. I had to take a star off though because it had so many inconsistencies in the characters and unbelievable plot points. YES! It is 100% unbelievable that a woman would live with a man in the military for two years and NOT know what branch. Under no circumstances would that happen. It is stenciled with his name and rank on every item of clothing, duffel, and anything else they own. Not to mention on any paperwork that he would have or receive because they don't serve in a bubble. The author tried to explain and rationalize which reminded me of the conversations I've had with friends who self publish and white knuckle every little detail they write when faced with how they can make their story stronger. This author needs to seek an editor and LISTEN. Decide who and what for each character then stick to it. Don't bounce around character traits to serve your one plot point to then change their actions and reactions completely to serve the next scene or situation.

If these kinds of things bother you, then definitely pass on this book. If you just like to zone out with a nice story and characters and not think too much then this is a good one. I liked all the people in the story. It is not a light, boring story.

As a note to the author and society in general, we do not give men 'Big Points' for not raping us. That should be a standard expectation. Come on! Having sex with a woman who is drunk is legally rape and everyone knows that by now. So, they don't get points for not taking advantage. They get to live a free life in society and not be a criminal. Let's not perpetuate a very out dated way of thinking.
