The best protective case

This is the best case I found for device survivability. I've dropped my phone many times and it has survived admirably thanks to this case. Definitely worth the extra money, although this case for the Pixel 3 XL is available now for much less than the original price, probably because the phone is older now. At any rate I'm sure to buy another one for my next device as I am rough on my devices and somewhat heavy-handed, and I drop it at least once a month. My only criticisms are that it does add some necessary bulk to your device, and the volume up/down buttons on this case are fairly stiff. In fact, the molded-in case button has stopped functioning almost completely here now that I've been using it for a couple years. As far as I'm concerned that is not a high price to pay for all the excellent protection the OtterBox Defender has given my phone.

Solid Otter Box

Sturdy, Otter Box quality. Fits the phone snugly. The side of the case is higher than the screen (sits flush but is higher due to the thickness of the case) but doesn't interfere with seeing or using the edges of the screen. I do NOT have a screen protector. If you are wanting to put on a screen protector in addition to this case, I would check the other reviews (and maybe check Otter Box's website). I don't think a screen protector would fit between the case and the phone. The case was tough to pop apart but, other than that, assembly was simple. I don't use the belt clip, so I can't speak to that.
I've had my case for about 3 months and I'm very happy with the purchase.

I've used OtterBox products in the past with other phones and tablets devices. This brand has been my first choice in portable device protection.

I once worked with their support staff to replace the removal holster and my experience dealing with them was very positive.

As for this screen less model, when I upgraded my phone from a Pixel to a Pixel 3XL, the sales representative recommended I get the Invisible First-Defense+ NanoGlass - Screen Protector. Although I upgraded my phone back in November 2018, this combination has proven to be impressive. I've had this phone face out with my keys and not a single scratch on the phones surface. The other thing about this combination, the phone fits is snug with this screen guard.

It fits my Pixel 3 XL perfectly. I like the additional padding inside the hard case to protect the back of the phone. Pros: perfect fit, durable, edge and screen protection. Cons: very very thick (3x the thickness of my phone. A thin rubber seal around the face edge of the plastic inner case would go a long way to waterproofing the case.

This product seems very sturdy. I like that the product has been tested to verify that it works. The only time I every broke a screen on a smart phone involved dropping the phone onto a pointy object that even this case would not have protected against. On the downside this case is colossal. It turns the otherwise sleek Pixel 3XL into a giant brick that is uncomfortable for small hands like my wife's. You need big pockets to hold the phone in this case as well. The inevitable trade-off is security versus size and this is definitely on the side size of the equation. The case does have an integrated plug for the charging port that is mostly in the way. It probably improves the phone's water resistance when it is inserted, but it is a bit of a hassle to pry out when it is time to charge. I probably would be fine with a smaller case, but this case is adequate for my needs and is probably one of the most secure options available for protecting this model.

Thank goodness Otterbox made some design changes. The first "smart" phone I purchased was an HTC brand. With that cell phone I had to purchase 3 Otterbox holsters during the time I owned that phone.

In my opinion, there was a design weakness on the "release" tab on the case. Each of the 3 failed there. There was an inherent weakness induced in the plastic material since to remove your phone from it's holder, you must slightly "flex" the release tab each time.

This one did exceptionally well during the 2 years I owned the Google Pixel 3XL.

I absolutely love this case. It's almost perfect.

This particular version does not come with a built-in screen protector. Over the years, Corning's Gorilla 🦍 Glass has improved so much, I'm not sure, that a screen protector is that important anymore.

Especially where this case, has a very tall lip surrounding the screen. I was going to order a screen protector but after reading another review, it's apparently very difficult, to fit a screen protector because Otter Box has so perfectly and tightly made this case fit the phone...the added thickness of a screen protector just won't work due to Otter Box making the case, so perfectly fitting...

This case is extremely comfortable to hold for long periods, (I read a lot on my phone).

I especially like that I can place my pinky finger underneath the bottom of the phone case and I'm not blocking anything. Also it has a plug to protect the type C charging outlet, so no edges to cut into your finger resting underneath the bottom of the case.

Now for the reason I say almost perfect!

This case comes with a Holster attachment that clips onto your belt. I personally have not been using this Holster attachment, mostly because I've put some weight on in my mid-section ( LOL) ...but this Holster attachment is plastic and I've read many reviews where the clip, that attaches to one's belt, has been known to break fairly easily...then to add insult to injury, I've also read, that Otter Box DOESN'T OFFER, just another Holster attachment but that you must buy an entirely new Case with Holster...and that's just plain WRONG!

I WILL ADD THAT...MY NEXT NEW PHONE, WILL BE USING THIS SAME OTTER BOX DEFENDER SERIES CASE!

This is the First OtterBox case I've owned. Having smashed several work phones, I was forced into having an OtterBox (non-defender) case for the Samsung A40 - This is the longest work phone I've had the opportunity to look after! So I was sold.

Coming back around to this case... This is a great case. It feels very secure in my hand and gives me confidence when walking around, barging into people in my stride. I don't feel like it's going to fall out my hand with a not'so firm grip any time soon either.

Be aware that certain screen protectors may not be comparatable with this case as it is form fitting. There are certain screen protectors sold on Amazon that claim to be compatible but are not. LK (Lightning Knight) is very close but not form fitting in my application although it claimed to be. Buy the otterbox with no worry. It's fantastic. Would however have been better with a screen protector

I love this phone case. My children and I have beat the crap out of this phone and it hasn't even noticed the drops, bangs, thwacks, etc. The only complaint I have is the holster, of which I have had 2 break (one via a child jumping on me and snapping the back of the clip, the second by holding my phone and the corner clip of the holster breaking off on a door-way latch hole, and there's no way to get a new one - attempting to contact OtterBox directly yields no ways to contact them, and using the webform illicited 0 response. However, the case has continued to be the best case I've ever had - it's just a bit bulky to carry in a pants pocket.
