These bags (qt) are just for the frig, but I put cheese in them, and put them in my freezer, and there still keeping a perfect seal. Foodsaver said they would not keep a seal in the freezer, well so far (over 5 days) its sealed tight, and also there is NO BPA in the plastic bags..
Old review-I have to admit, I have just used this one time, with the bag it came with.(ordered new quart bags)
I had a hunk of cheese, and this did the trick with out having to bring out my big
foodsaver.
Suction was just as good as my big foodsaver.
Its nice that I can unzip the bag then put what is still left over back in the bag, sucktion out again, and reuse it.
24 hours later, the seal has not leaked, still a tight seal..I do wonder how long it will last when I open and close the bag a few times..We shall see!
I thought this unit came with the same charger as the 29.99 one has, which is the stand. I didn't care about the meat holder.
This one came with a charger to plug in the wall, but nothing for this to stand on.It is small and can fit into a drawer.
The red charging light never went off once it was charged, not sure if that is the way its suppose to work!
I was at Walmart today, and the exact same handheld Foodsaver was $19.99 plus tax.
Amazon [...], no shipping and no tax.
I'm happy.
If this is not going to keep on working as good as It did, I will be back to review this again.
Two thumbs up Amazon.
Then I found FoodSaver Vacuum. At $17 it's a wonder. I tried it out on items in my crisper drawer. Cheese, sandwich meat, and bacon. My first attempt was unsuccessful. I lost the vacuum in a matter of minutes. Then I re-read the printed instructions which explains that you have to be careful to seal the bag by putting in on a hard surface and running your fingers over the zip lock on the bag. Once I followed instructions, the ziplock bag remained sealed and the vacuum remained.
I also like the fact that it is charged through a wall socket and I don't have to buy a ton of batteries.
I've had it for a few days but I would recommend this product to anyone looking to vacuum pack food for the refrigerator or freezer at a reasonable price. $17 isn't reasonable, it's ridiculous! I bought a box of quart sized and gallon sized zip lock bags from them as well. The bags aren't cheap but they are reasonably priced. $12 for 20 @ quart bags, and $8 for 18 @ gallon bags. But the plastic containers are very expensive. It's obvious that's how they make their profit.
=======
We've had this for about to days now. I have had no issues. I have various items in the frig and three items in the freezer. The vacuums have all held. I love this thing.
I love my handheld so much, so easy to grab and when my spouse and I are in the kitchen he or I can move around while one of us is vacuum sealing a container for example. When we were just using our large machine for this there was a bit of crowding in our NOT huge kitchen. But our handheld solves that, we can both even vacuum seal at the same time! I thought about buying and giving them out to others, but I was worried if they did NOT already use a and own a large Foodsaver they might not be wowed by the handheld. It does not heat seal and is plain looking. I would be afraid it might get discarded. I am sure there are those that really love the handheld and for whatever reason they do not want a large one. I know as I have seen the reviews. But it depends on many factors. That is why I think it is best if the person really is interested in vacuum sealing they look at the new machines and think about it before purchasing. Then after getting used to a large machine I recommend adding one of these type handhelds if possible. These are also very handy to take to work to vacuum seal sandwich containers with snack or lunch leftovers that can be kept fresh in a work fridge (like parmesan cheese as a topping for example.)-Julie Sands
