I am solely a fan of the Tomb Raider "survivor" series only. So I shall only speak of this game in the context of its series. I do not understand why this game has received much negative attention, but all art is subjective and in this age of infinitely intellectually empty millennials and absent minded professional reviewers such is to be expected. Nonetheless I shall brake this down by category. The game operates very well for the most part, occasionally taxing the Xbox One X but there are always limitations to consoles. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, amazing, stunning, and just make the game so worth exploring every bit of it possible. I haven't found the annoying business of swimming so fun since Crysis. The story line is indeed unexpected. I do appreciate the interaction of the characters versus previous games, and the conclusion is of course to anyone's disliking or liking. However I think it does remain true to this series, a story of development of a single character into something anew through a series of impossible events. Although the trailers presented the game as being very action based, I found the game to have less action than the previous two titles with more emphasis on exploration. I would offer this criticism, that the actual apocalyptic events seems muted in terms of happening during gameplay versus cutscenes. I personally would have preferred more catastrophe to survive and more time in the eclipse. But as I said before, all art is subjective and to each their own. If you are a fan, I highly recommend this game. It's awesome!

This is a great Tomb Raider game and every bit as good as Rise of the Tomb Raider. However, neither of them came close to the original Tomb Raider reboot in the trilogy. These will hold up well against anything else in this style though. If you liked Uncharted, the Prince of Persia reboot, or even games like beyond good and evil or Mirror's Edge you should definitely give this series a go. Especially the first one. I just wish Square hadn't made that foolish timed exclusive deal with Microsoft which definitely lead to poorer sales for the series overall. That was a really bad mistake on their part.

As an avid gamer, I don't get venture into games that I don't believe will be worth my time. And I assure you that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is surely worth yours! The gameplay is great and you even have the option to select higher resolution or higher frame rate (I chose frame rate and the resolution is still 4K HDR with no noticeable change). The dialogue is captivating, as is the scenery. The developers really did their homework on history, legends, myths, etc. and it shows. Trust me, you'll have a hard time walking away.

Upon the first two games, this third and final entry makes for a beautiful exploration of life and variety that Lara Croft does as a tomb raider and nobody can outmatch her style of exploration. The previous game focused too much on combat more than exploration, so this third game focuses on what makes the Tomb Raider the name it holds to heart. Some combat lovers might hate it, but open world exploratory lovers like the fanbase will love it.

Love me some classic single player fun. Great graphics and delightfully scary at points. Love exploring and searching for secrets and solving puzzles. Interesting to learn about ancient Mayan culture as well. Game play isn’t built for melee fighting, but it’s fun sneaking around and performing stealth kills.
