The projector this replaced was set on a tall shelf near the ceiling. Unfortunately the BenQ can't be set up that way. If it's placed near the ceiling on a shelf, you can't frame the image on the opposite wall unless the projector is upside down. So I bought a ceiling mount and mounted it upside down, which is better anyway because you have access to the power button and adjustment controls that way. Bought a silver ticket 135" screen and it looks gorgeous blown up that big.
I love that the remote control has back-lit buttons!
This is my first DLP, and I'm pleasantly surprised. I don't notice any rainbow artifacts.
The new Onkyo receiver I bought for my theater room was bad, wouldn't even power on, so I didn't have any audio... and when I fired up the projector to watch my first movie I was shocked how good the internal speakers are. We've watched six movies with it using the internal speakers and it's been great having that capability. You can just mute the speakers of course, they don't have to be on if you have a home theater audio system, but it's cool that I can take the projector places and have speakers internally.
Can't wait until these guys start releasing 4K projectors are an affordable price. I'm a BenQ fan for sure.
Anyway, I haven't had the HT3050 very long but so far I'm loving it. The Rec. 709 picture settings are near perfect right out of the box! Initially I was a little worried because it looked a little off to me for some reason. Contrast seemed funky & skin tones were coming out really red for instance. After some minor tweaks using the Disney WOW calibration disc though it looks a lot better than what I was getting out of the W1070. I've read that the shadow detail/black level isn't as good as the W1070, & I kind of noticed that as well. After calibration though I have to say that if there's really a difference I don't notice it. Black levels & shadow detail are great. Not as good as my Panasonic plasma tv of course but what do you expect. The 3D is also fantastic. Better than a lot of theaters I've been to. I'm just using some cheap-o Sainsonic 3D glasses too. I'm considering trying different glasses if it would improve the 3D experience, but it's pretty great as is. If anyone reading this has compared my brand of glasses with another using a BenQ let me know the results! The projector is also whisper quiet. MUCH quieter than the W1070. Overall this is a great improvement from my last projector & I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a theater experience at home.
Top reviews from other countries
The keystone features allow for a pretty extreme range of positions (much wider range than our old projector) and the auto keystone has yet to fail me (I have thrown it some curve-balls, for the fun of it). So far we have just been casting it against our wall but with an actual projector screen, I expect the colours to really pop.
The WiFi addon seems like a must (i misread the item listing and thought that those features were built in) these days.
The only downside I can think of is the lack of a Displayport. Alot of our newer devices and graphics cards are almost entirely displayport so it took a few days just to find a device I could plug it into!
Audio from the unit is very good as well.
Couldn't be happier with the purchase
