Product Description

The Newborn 930-GTD Drip-Free Smooth Hex Rod Cradle caulking gun has a steel half-barrel frame that fits 1/10-gal. cartridges and has a 10:1 thrust ratio for use with low viscosity materials such as latex. The smooth pressure rod requires less force and is quieter than a ratchet-style pressure rod. The rod retracts after each pull of the trigger, removing pressure from the tube to help prevent dripping. The handle and trigger are padded for comfort. There is a welded plate in the back for securing the cartridge in place. A seal puncture tool and a spout cutter are built into the side of gun for opening cartridges without a knife, and the hook on the back allows it to hang on a ladder.

Caulking guns, also called caulk or cartridge guns, dispense a controlled flow of products such as caulk, sealants, and adhesives from a tube or cartridge. A manual caulking gun consists of a frame which holds the tube, a trigger, and a rod which moves forward when the trigger is depressed, dispensing the product. Manual caulking guns have a thrust ratio; the higher the thrust ratio, the easier it is to dispense the caulk, sealant, or adhesive. Air-powered or pneumatic caulking guns also have a frame and a trigger, but are used with an air pressure regulator that pushes the product from the tube using air pressure instead of a rod.

    Maaaaybe drip "less", as in drips less than regular caulk gun if just set down. But with either you must release pressure applied by the plunger, with a cheap one by tripping the metal catch on the rod & with this one by pulling back on the rod. I literally just stopped what I was doing (caulking windows) to boot my computer & leave this review so I wouldn't keep forgetting. Now at least I feel better having made it known to others so they would at least have reasonable expectations. If I were a professional possibly I would be able to get a feel for it & stop applying pressure precisely at the right time to finish with the caulk coming out. But I'm not, & it would probably just slow me down. This gun versus a cheap one makes no difference except it is twice as expensive as the cheap one.**UPDATE** (2 stars to 4 starts) The tinier you cut the hole on the tip of the tube will effect the amount of flow after releasing the trigger. I had cut the tip in the picture pretty large for what I was doing, but now that I'm back to a pretty tiny one it does not continue draining after releasing the trigger, just the tiniest bit (< 16th of an inch).

    This caulk gun did not drip one drop of its caulk during or after its use. It feels solidly built. The grip feels better than any caulk gun I have ever used. The seal puncture tool stayed in place after use. This contrasts with other caulk guns whos puncture tool will rotate/wander while you work (so annoying!). The spout cutter has been the only weakness I have found. It did not cut the caulk nose easily nor cleanly. Its blade was just too dull right out of the box. Had the cutter been up to par, I would have given this product five stars. Despite this, it is well worth the money. I was happy to throw my old caulk gun away after using the Newborn Drip Free gun several times.

    While this is a standard tool, this version seems to be an upgrade to many I have used in the past. It is very lightweight, but I have used it for a few months and in a number of projects and have been impressed with the quality and how it has held up, and continues to work very well.
