G-Drive 1 TB ev RaW Portable Hard Drive
I connected this USB portable storage device to my Mac Mini for creating backups using the built-in Time Machine software. This 1 TB G-Drive portable mechanical hard drive is a good choice for my use because it is fast (7200 RPM) and provides additional capabilities for future use and expansion.The device has two built-in interfaces, USB for standalone use and a SATA port for mounting it with other drives in a specialty rack made by this company. It is conveniently pre-formatted for Mac, and comes with two cables approximately 22 inches long so it can be connected to a USB 3.0 A or C port.The cables appear to be good quality, the plugs fit tightly, and so far no disconnects with the cables even though I move the unit around frequently. It also comes with a removable blue foam rubber bumper that increases the safe drop distance from 47 inches to 59 inches meters to a carpeted floor. It runs on USB power alone so no separate AC connection is necessary.The Mac recognized it immediately and a G-Drive icon appeared on the desktop. It only took a few seconds to add it to the Time Machine settings, and a backup was created immediately. The LED illuminated “G” on the front of the unit blinks when the backups are in progress and there is no noticeable sound or interference on normal desktop operation. It has been running well and I confirmed that the backups being created are complete and accurate. Excellent.
