Can’t change speeds
I bought this thing because it’s on sale, but I already regret the purchase. There’s no way to take enough tension off the belts in order to setup certain pulley configurations (necessary to change spindle speeds). The enclosed photo shows the issue: the machine lock screw has been adjusted to its maximum slack position (you can see the spring is fully compressed). In this position I simply can’t muscle the drive belts onto the pulleys when the diagram calls for certain arrangements. I’m not saying that an operation which should take me 30 seconds actually takes me 20 minutes; I’ saying an operation that should take 30 seconds cannot be done at all.Such a horrible flaw in this machine earns my lowest review. Also, 3 1/2” of quill travel seems less than I was expecting and I have my doubts about the concentricity of the spindle.Edit:Since posting this review, I have figured out some tricks for changing the speeds. I can fully remove the stop screw in order to take the belts off, the idler pulley can be repositioned, and the tighter rails can be sometimes be reached by partially threading the rail and then spinning the pulley. It's an obxnoxious process that takes longer than it should, and something which could easily have been fixed with a better design. But, it can be done. I'm raising the review up to 3 stars.
